Recently spoke to the lad who works at my club. He's a +3 golfer and said compression was my issue. This video speaks to me massively, such a simplistic way of improving my compression. Roll on my practice session later.
I recently noticed that my bottoming out is a little further back in my stance. When I've played the ball a little too forward in my stance, I would tend to hit the ground first. I'm hitting crisp shots and taking a small divot. What a difference. I'm working with what I have instead of trying too hard for the " perfect " swing. Oh, I'm shooting lower scores, my handicap is getting lower and I'm winning league tournaments more and more
Questions regarding open/ closed face segment. Makes perfect sense. 1,) Are you saying that the clubface needs to start closed to facilitate a draw? 2.) Should one expect the same distance from the club regardless whether it is open or closed? If i need to land a ball soft and leave the club face slightly open (with ball slightly forward of stance), should I be clubbing down one to get the same distance? obviously wind is a factor.. but not counting that. Seems the more compression comes from a closed face (or draw) and you would get more distance from the same club?
1) closed compared to the swing path will lead to a draw 2) no, if the face is closed to the path, the loft will present lower, so the ball will go further than if the clubface is open (presenting more loft). If you get consistent with closing the face then yes, your irons will go further and you will have to reevaluate your distances, and if you get good control of the face in either direction than you have a much better variety of distances you can hit with the same club
You should check out Shawn's Ping driver fitting from a couple of years ago. He's in his 50's and has a clubhead speed of 112 mph but could still carry it over 300 yards. His 'smash factor' achieved 1.50 which is the maximum possible. He then did it left handed. This guy knows what he is talking about.
