Lost my brother on that day... Firefighter Nick Rossomando - Rescue 5 - FDNY... I ALWAYS go back to that broadcast. It really showed how much Howard meant to the people of NYC and how much NYC meant to him and the show. I'm so grateful that it was recorded and still lives today. Thank you Howard!

Conan is right. I'm 21, so I was only 2 years old when 9/11 happened. Listening to Stern's show from that day has provided so much insight to the thoughts and feelings of the onlooking American people as it unfolded. It absolutely needs to be preserved for its historical value.

I very rarely listen to Howard Stern. But I'll never forget listening to his show on 9/11. I was working that morning, and I always preferred listening to music, but that morning my coworker wanted to listen to Stern instead, and we heard it all. My boss actually ended up sending us home late on the morning to be with our families (his cousin died in one of the towers, we later found out). Never really listened to Howard after that. Fast forward to 2019, I get a Sirius subscription and I tune into this interview because I love conan, and they start talking about 9/11 which was pretty much the last time I had even listened to his show... So weird

I went into work that day and my boss just said "Do you think we're gonna have a World War 3?" Then mentioning the Towers being hit, I think it already reported the 2nd plane crash by then. I had no Idea what was happening, I'm glad I wasn't able to see it on television.

I lived in New York at the time and woke up to Howard Stern that day. His voice is as deeply ingrained in my memory and experience as any footage. Conan explains it so well here, that's what it was like.

I lived in Southern California during 9/11 and Howard was what I was listening to. He definitely helped me through that morning. Tried other news outlets, when back to Howard. Most human and real he's ever been.

I remember I was driving to class listening to Howard when he came back from commercial with the news. I remember where I was in the campus parking lot and I remember where I eventually parked to listen. Classes were cancelled shortly after and school admins broadcasted the news coverage in the auditorium. I remember sitting in the auditorium which was filled with the sound of sobbing. I live in southwestern CT so there was a good chance people had loved ones in the buildings or nearby that day. I remember feeling lost and coming back to Howard for familiarity and safety. I remember driving to the shoreline after Howard went off the air from which I could see the smoke from the fires from across long island sound. On clear days you can see the city skyline. I remember no planes being in the air. I remember it was eerily quiet. I couldn't watch the footage or listen to Howard's broadcast again until 2011. It still feels like it was only a few years ago.

I was born after 9-11, but I have a particular fascination with Stern's broadcast. One show that illustrates the exact moment from which the dark, paranoid world I grew up in came to exist. Its frankly awe inspiring.

Just a year ago I was reflecting on 9/11, and I decided to look up news broadcasts to reflect on the impact that day had. Howard Sterns full radio broadcast was one that I had found, and to me nothing else really conveys the thoughts and emotions going through everyones head at that time quite like that broadcast. I can't believe that today Conan is bringing up this point. I'm glad to see that their are other people who feel the same way.

I remember that broadcast like it was yesterday. I was at a bad place in a bad time in my life but I was on my way up. I listened to Howard every morning then. HOWARD YOU WAS THE GREATEST THEN AND YOUR STILL THE GREATEST !!!!!!!

I first heard it was happening from Howard, I remember the exact spot I was at when my coworker yelled at me to come listen, it was as if time stood still. Conan is absolutely right, Howard and his crew got a lot of us through the day.

I’ll remember that day as if it was yesterday, forever. The weather was impeccable. There wasn’t a cloud in the sky. No haze, no humidity, perfect temperature, crystal clear. Rare for this neck of the woods. So beautiful that I took an extra long drive down route 3 to my office in Jersey which allowed for a picture perfect view of the Manhattan skyline just minutes before the events unfolded. Howard was my copilot for that entire drive and for the better part of a day that I will never forget.

I listen to that full broadcast every year on the anniversary. We were on stanby here in CT and you could hear the broadcast being played from several units. Then to listen in the day after when several of us rode down to help is just something that will forever remain with me!!

Honestly one of the most important live broadcasts because it showed real people that had a real reaction. The broadcast brings me chills. The day after broadcast is also incredible. One of the only reporters and shows who's staff clearly cares about the work they do. Most people's reaction would of been to get out of town, however they stayed in and let people call in and be there with the country. He brought to life alot of the cultural mindset of the days with his broadcast. Thanks to Conan for articulating this!

Stern was amazing on 9/11. He was the only real news that day. I walked all the way from Spring St to The. Bronx and listened to him all the way. People were surrounding cars and listening to him. I will love Howard and Robin until the day I die just because of what they did that day.

It was certainly a memorable broadcast for me. This was right around the time that the Stern show was expanding to a national audience, maybe a year or two before in my market. On that day, I was on my way to work when it happened and got to hear some of Stern's broadcast live, before my shift started. I remember them talking about it being a helicopter at first, before we later knew what happened. Conan is right, it really is a key historical document in the whole thing, and one I revisit maybe not every year, but from time to time.

yep, it was super crazy .. I was on the way to my late morning college classes that day . I think I made it about 4 of the 8 miles to my class and turned around and went home, and glued myself to the television for a couple days straight

I'll never forget driving into work that day and hearing Ralph narrate unusual things. Later that day, there was a pub at the base of my building, in Canada and we were watching CNN and saw the 2nd tower come down. I'll never forget how I felt that day. Sadness in anger in equal parts.

I really appreciate what Howard did that day and his broadcast is clearly a standout as Conan O'Brien rightly points out. For me personally, my guide through that horrible day was Peter Jennings (RIP). He was a voice of reason and calm during a terrifying day of pain, loss, confusion, sadness, anguish and anger. I am sorry he is not around anymore. His voice and his presence are truly missed. I miss the real journalists and news anchors...

I was listening to Howard that morning when my friend and I went into a Bickfords for breakfast. He was talking about Kid Rock and Pam Andersen's relationship when we went in. When we came out, he was talking about the first plane hitting. Within a few minutes he told us the second plane had hit and we all knew what was happening. The worst day of my life but I'm glad I was listening to Howard Stern at that time.

I didn't hear Howard's show that day as I was a kid in school when it happened. However on one of the anniversaries I saw it pop up on my You Tube suggestions (yes it's on here) and I was floored by how little "shock jock" and how much just real fear and emotion was in that broadcast. That truly was Howard's finest hour in the midst of our country's darkest.

I was working in a Factory in in NJ while getting through college and always listened to Howard during work....yes he walked me through the whole event...it was very important I believe what and how the show did it that day....always remember that when they talk shit about Howard...always wish they would have been on the radio with him that day...would look at him in a different light..

I had just listened to that broadcast very recently for the first time. It took me back to that day immediately. He was reacting just like I remembered everyone reacting. First denial, then realization, fear, wanting revenge, gloomy, etc. I'd recommend that broadcast to anyone who wasn't old enough to remember that day.

I was listening that day. It was such comfort to have these real people talking and reporting on it instead of some tv news reporter, if that makes sense. I know that the show was on youtube for awhile but now seems to be gone. Wondering who had it removed as I think it's an important document to that day and how it all unfolded to the common person. I wish it would be put back up for historical reference.

As the years drift farther and farther away from September 11 2001. My emotional response increases exponentially. The sight or sound of any picture, video, commentary, my emotions tend to boil over, I start to hurt physically. Evidently, time doesn't heal everything. At least not for me.

I found out about 9/11 early in the morning in Arizona on my way to get dropped off at school n my dad was listening to Howard when someone called in saying the tower was hit. I remember my dad screaming hitting the steering wheel say we're going to war. I'll never forget that day. Just think about it makes want to cry.

Nomisj46 damn....similar man, 5th Grade then, born in Manhattan, raised in Scottsdale. Stern most morn w/ Dad. Remember the 11th as dad hysterical, bending over, waiting w/ the landline to learn (eventually)his brother In law made it out, but not a cousin. Was dropped off at Cherokee Elementary, TV front/center. You never forget. Dad’s Uncle Jimmy was so distraught after losing his daughter (worked in the N. Tower), he flew to AZ to stay a couple months w/ us. I remember not understanding who exactly had died, as the family is large, but mostly my dad trying to impart the gravity of what happened. The scope wasn’t realized, however vivid the images are now. Besides the aftermath, I realize increasingly more that was a very tough morn for him . Two emotional calls he knew he had to make first , one tragic answer after the dust settled, knowing thousands more gone, w/few details initially. What mattered was clear, and we were pissed... Watching that ‘01 WS w/ him was special. That B-2 flyover man. RIP to all the victims, the families never leave our hearts/prayers. PS. Mom hated when Jimmy smoked his marb reds inside, but never said a word. I know she looked back w/ fondness, as she lost her dad very young, and just connected w/ Jimmy during his stay.

I was on the West Coast during 9/11 and immediately turned on Stern after watching the news a little. What a broadcast. Howard evokes just about every human emotion there is. Shock, Anger, Sadness.

On point! The 9/11 broadcast is a very compelling truth that Howard missed in his book...and I loved the book. I was listening to Howard that morning of 9/11 - driving home over the 14th St. bridge in DC seeing the smoke rise from the Pentagon. His voice was so honest and comforting to me in the mix of that fear and anger and astonishment.Conan is so insightful and they have the best chemistry! Love them both so much.

I was driving a truck and listening to Stern when 9/11 happened. He did a great job just describing the scene and keeping his listeners informed.

That's how I learned of 9/11. I was in high school, I woke up and first thing I did was turn on the radio next to me to listen to Howard. And this is what they were talking about.

I was working 500 miles from home: (In Pittsburgh from Detroit) , and listened to Howard tell us what was going on. Like Conan...i heard Howard in a different way...

Listening to Howard at my office in Fort Worth TX that day. It was riveting and honest. It was the most powerful broadcast I’ve ever listened to live. I still have it and listen to parts on occasion.

Loves The countryside His show is much longer than late night talk shows so he can afford to take his time with the interviews.
