Lopez said some horrible things about Conan after this :/ Said he 'bitched for two years' even though he got a lot of money from NBC. Conan was just trying to be supportive.
Yeah, that did it for me. I use to be a Lopez fan, but after that with all the other apparent stuff he does that just messed up made me decide I am not really into him anymore. He was really funny and successful, then just became a bitter old man.
George later went on to actually help Conan. Therefor you see Conan here actually showing care for George and appreciation. You can’t compare a little joke to good acts. Check yourself.
@@caesarstrings that's completely wrong. conan became the host of the tonight show, nbc tanked his ratings bc of a crap primetime lineup (ahem jay leno) so they tried pushing conan to midnight. conan wasnt having it, and nbc said take the timeslot or go away. that's when the im with coco movement started, and despite everyone standing up for conan, nbc wouldnt have it and paid conan 40 mill (12 mill for his staff if i remember correctly) and ended his time as tonight show host after 7 months, and leno walked in like nothing happened and with no integrity and morals. nothing about contract renewals.
Maybe Lopez and some of the higher ups were making millions but I doubt the lower level people were. When a show is canceled, it's not just one person out of a job.
Not really. When Robin Williams & Gary Shandling died Conan was holding back tears. This is just him expressing disappointment that his friend lost his job. I’ve felt the same way when my friends at work have been fired and I wouldn’t get to hang with them everyday anymore.
Idk much of george lopez talk show but one thing i do know and love about conan is how humble he always is and he remembers everybody he doesnt take all the fame amd glory hes very humble and i love that about conan hes a great guy god bless conan
He always made his guests look good, usually by clowning and his self deprecating sense of humour, he never ridiculed them (beyond some comical fake rivalries and feuds that he has with some guests), and if they were tanking he'd draw the fire. Not like Leno who could really ruin an interview with his attitude.
Just saw George Lopez video dissing Conan. Ok, let's start with first! George Lopez show was not good and not entertaining. So yes, no problem being canceled. Second, it's NOT the first time George Lopez backstab people who've helped him. But hey, "those who don't have sin, cast the first stone.." however, at the end...it just shows how CLASS act Conan is and how LOW act George is.

Very well said, I'm not a fan of George Lopez and have never really watched his stuff (I don't think it's designed for me as I am in the UK!) but I appreciate the need for a late night host who speaks to the Hispanic community. Conan is one of the greatest comics of the last 50 years. I would recommend watching season 4 of Simpsons with commentary, they talk about Conan as a writer and the guy just sounds like, as you say a "comic genius". Awesome! Viva Conan!
conan's being nice but i find it impossible to believe he finds Lopez funny. Lopez later went on Huffington Post Live (the only talk show that would take him) to badmouth Conan over his paycheck. lopez was nothing more than a failed experiment. the guy is all anger and no humor.

George Lopez sucked and TBS made the right decision, I find it incredibly stupid that people bring race into this. It has nothing to do with race, it has everything to do with being good comedy or not.

The second Conan signed with tbs, it was over for George. Conan could’ve gone to any network and got views. For him to go with tbs that check must’ve been ridiculous 😂😂😂
Lopez had a show on TBS at the 11:00 timeslot. Conan had a show on NBC at ~11:30. Conan was offered, due to low ratings, to bump his show to 12:00 or get fired/bought out. Conan chose the money and went to TBS, who offered him the already occupied 11:00 timeslot. Lopez was given the option to get bumped to 12:00 or get fired/bought out (which was not nearly as comprehensive/expensive as Conan's). Conan joined TBS and a year later, Lopez was fired due to low ratings, because of the move to 12:00.
you realize that whether or not someone is funny is a matter of opinion, right? George Lopez is a legend, and he would not have gotten a sitcom or talk show if people didn't think he was funny. He's been doing comedy for 30 years, he started from the bottom just like everyone else. His TV show was very good in my opinion, and he's not knee slapping funny, but he has a charisma that is rare among performers, hispanic or otherwise. give the man some credit.
The problem with George Lopez Show was that it was too expensive to make, The Show had a Band plus every night musical guests and that cost just way too much money, if he had a Show that was cheap to make then TBS would've been happy and renew it ................. Cable ratings are much less than network
That's why Craig Ferguson stripped his show down to the bare minimum cuz he wanted more money. He had no band he had a robot sidekick and a guy in a horse costume. LoL
Actually it is the same. NBC wanted to move the Jay Leno Show to 11:30 which would have pushed back Conan to midnight. Conan didn't want to play second place position. Likewise TBS scheduled Conan's show, and pushed back Lopez's show, putting Lopez in second position. It was exctly the same situation .

Let me clear this up. White is a skin color and Mexican is a nationality/ethnicity. Being white has nothing to do with being Mexican or not being Mexican. Many people who are 100% Mexican also have white skin.

Conan is famous all over the world. Unfortunately his show doesn't air in other countries so they can only access it via RU-vid. It doesn't reflect in the ratings.
I think it would be funny to see one of the interviews where George Lopez says that Conan didn't stand up for him and threw him under the bus without a kind word after all he did for him etc. etc. and then play this clip. I was going to point it out but the whole comment section beat me to it. I haven't seen much of Lopez's show but what clips I did see were just not very funny. It's not even a "Oh you don't know Latinx humour" thing because in casual conversations I've had with people from Cuba, Mexico, South America and Latinx people from the States they are really quick witted and funny and they aren't even professional comedians! Conan was still fairly new at TBS and hadn't worked up any favors or anything he could have used to save the man's show yet either so I don't know what George expected him to do, plus you can get a hint of Conan's disapproval in this piece of their decision to cancel Lopez's show so I think it was unfair and unprofessional to say those things. Get mad at the people who fired you not at Conan is what I'm saying, it's not like Conan took his time slot which is what Jay Leno did. George Lopez and Conan's situations were wildly different. Lopez had enough time to build an audience but didn't have the chops to do so and has weak character enough to deflect it to someone who had no part in it what so ever.
@@r.rodriguez4991 I think you miss-understood me I was kind of implying that he would probably say that only people brought up in his culture would get his jokes but if you actually talk to people who share the background he is talking about they also think he is a hack that relies on things like stereo types and just isn't funny, meanwhile most Spanish and Portuguese people I know seem to gravitate to a quick witted style of humor and are pretty sharp in their every day jokes which proves him wrong. Every culture has a style of humor they tend to favour. Don't worry I wasn't trying to be disrespectful or say anything negative. Sorry for the confusion and I hope reading that didn't cause you too much grief and if it did I apologize and admit that maybe the way I worded it came across as offensive but that was an accident and I respect and think the culture is cool.
The only reason George wasnt upset at losing his show as much as Conan is because Conan lost the freaking coveted Tonight Show! George had a late night show that pulled in 200,000 views a night
According to George when he was on the Howard Stern show years back, he said TBS called him up and asked him or begged him to call Conan and say how great TBS is and how he should come over. He thought that was weird how they couldn't close their own deals and needed him to help get Conan.
I'm a fan of George Lopez and even bigger fan of Conan O'Brien, and being a Hispanic I do appreciate George Lopez comedy but he doesn't have hosting skills, Conan is a genius at hosting. Each good at what they do in there own way but I see Conan going down in history as one of the most famous comic genius ever. George has the connection with the Hispanic community, but Conan has a universal connection with every race he comes in contact with and that's why he's unstoppable. Go Conan your awesome
yeah i have no idea what conan is talking about. when he left nbc, george lopez TRIED to do diss conan a lot. lopez's lack of comedic skills prevented him from coming up with any real clever remarks. but still, the point is he tried. maybe conan is just trying to set an example here of how late night hosts SHOULD act when colleagues lose their shows. classy guy.
I was very much Team CoCo when Leno cost him his job. But that will never change the fact that Conan did the exact same thing to Lopez. Now I know some of you will reply with "Except George Lopez wasn't funny." Well, there are millions of people out there who think Conan wasn't funny, either. Comedy is subjective, and Lopez had his loyal fans too. Personally, I never thought Leno was funny, and I always resented his involvement in NBC forcing Johnny Carson to retire. That created a chain of events that ultimately led to Conan costing Lopez his job, Jimmy Fallon trying to act sober every night, and James Corden being hated by everyone who has ever met him.
