They should absolutely do another movie with Arnold as Conan the King. His character and these tales deserve an ending that would honor the creator (Robert E. Howard) and please the fans and followers.
I agree! At his age now, a movie of 'Conan : King of Aquilonia' would be magnificent with the right screenplay, casting and director. Let us hope that this becomes a reality before it is too late.
In this scene you saw that Jenna grew up. She'd been childish before, but when Conan didn't stay she didn't whine and beg, she let him go in a dignified manner. One of the best images in the movie.
I love how they all seek permission by Conan first!! And i love how Zulu was the first named, and immediatly Ranked to Captain of the Guard!! This is how you make amazing characters, with epic events happening to them, witouth being forced, you saw Gracie J. fight, you saw her protect, you know shes more then qualified!!! i love this fucking movie!!!
Grace J. was pretty alright in this film. Although somewhat modest compared to Gerry Lopez & Sandahl Bergman in Barbarian (they left big shoes to fill after all), Grace J. has perhaps the best new character in this sequel aside Arnie & Mako's original characters(from Barbarian, perhaps not quite Robert Howard's)!
Hmm imagine that, you can make a strong female char without destroying a movie, you do not have to make the males weak, who woulda guessed.....next up in Hollywood, Brie Larson deadlifts 2000kg and Thor farts and falls down, Plot twist a trans comes along and lifts 5000 kg but that is ok, CAPTAIN TRANS MARVEL coming to theatres to lose 500 million near you!!!!!
@@negativezero3107 Dude why you exaggerate, it's nothing like that. Thor doesn't fart and fall down in the latest movie. He becomes impotent to lift his own hammer, but Natalie Portman shows up to lift the hammer for him and become the new Thor who is a lady. Ms. Marvel isn't trans, shes a cool teenage Muslim named Kamala. America Chaves from the newest Dr. Strange movie comes from a utopian world where men don't exist. She was born out of the pure manifestation of love from her two expert scientist lesbian moms. She attended Sotomayor University before heading out to save all the worlds with her "Superman but better" powers. I hope she teams up with the new Iron Man who is now a black lady named Riri Williams. The new Marvel cycle is gonna be lit!
When Conan is the last one to be called upon, The queen says nothing. She wouldn't dare beckon him forward because she knows she does not command him, nor would Conan take any commands from any person. He is a king. Her silence is the only way she knows to beckon him forth.
badass conan won't be a simp. but a man of his own making. loved it. see the look in her eyes when she realized she can't have him coz she so desires. that ending was awesome.
@@gngeek08 You gotta give the Queen props for not getting emotional at all when Conan leaves, although she does tear up a bit. She wears her "regal bearing" quite well now. 👑
That pause before he turns and walks out of the room is so well done. That is the greatness of these old films. The movements were so expressive but understated.
I saw this scene when I was just a kid. And I didn’t understand it. . Now. Years later, after having had many high adventures in many far away lands. After collecting a ragtag bunch of miscreant friends and watching them leave for new opportunities. And after accidentally breaking the hearts of people who legitimately cared for me, because I couldn’t stop loving someone I had lost. After all that , I watch this scene, and it is devastating. ….but that, is another story.
That's actually not what this scene is about. The whole persona of Conan from the 1st movie was that he is going to be a king "by his own hands," and not one that was handed to him. The left can learn a few things or 2 from this.
I'm older than several of you... I'm a Great-grandpa. I remember how far he came from being "Hercules in New York" til the "Terminator". Believe me or not... the accent did get better...
This movie and the one before it were among those that got me into fantasy literature. And the Conan saga is still one of my favourite piece of literature of all times. Thanks to the books, I could finally learn how he got his kingdom and eventually his queen. If you haven't read them, do it, Robert E. Howard was a master of his craft.
@@richb1576 All the many great Fantasy writers . . . Glen Cook, Erikson, Joe Abercrombie, . . . and you chose two women, that write women's novels, with women's concerns and women's understanding ?. Lackey for one, is an UTTERLY pedestrian writer, her prose is virtually unreadable to anyone who has any literary taste at all.
@@uncletiggermclaren7592 Ummm yea. I can have an opinion and voice it. I was not being negative or knocking somebody’s choices. I could have recommended Moorcock or Zelazny. Brooks or Jordan. I choose 2 that I like to read. Have a nice day.
Something that I always enjoyed about fantasy movies from this era was that dull shiney look to everything. It makes it look like a mythical tale come to life. The way her clothes gleam is like something from the 50's. I think the only modern movie to look like this was Clash of the Titans.
Jehnna: "Rule Shadizar with me" Conan: (My time has come) Malak: "Conan, she has fifteen years old" Conan: "I'LL WILL HAVE MY OWN KINGDOM, MY OWN QUEEN"
LIke it would matter in an iron age world. From ancient Egypt to Rome to medieval Europe, marriage (consumated marriage, not betrothals) was generally legal and farily common for girls as young as 12 and boys as young as 14.
Jehnna: "Rule Shadizar with me" Conan: "I'LL WILL HAVE MY OWN KINGDOM, MY OWN QUEEN" Malak: "Conan, she has fifteen years old" Conan: (My Time Has Come!!)
It's not a masterpiece, but I really like this movie. The music and the scenery is terrific. The script and execution is what it is, but it still works for me. No matter how hard they try, they simply can't make a movie like this these days. The technology and everything has changed too much. Damn I really miss the 80s. And Conan the Destroyer came out the same year I was born.
I concur. Perhaps it is not as profound and epic as its famed predecessor(which I'm also a huge fan of), but it's not bad in its own right and also has its own special place in my heart!
I love how all the members of Conan's party find their own destinies. And Conan is wise enough to let them find them. But Conan will continue to adventure and find new allies. And if he has need of these old friends, I'm sure he can still call upon them. I know that he must've called upon Akiro again, because he is still his chronicler. Maybe something happened to Queen Jehnna and Shadizar.
@@edwardgaines6561 Everybody's paths and needs are different in life. Sometimes you and your friends must part in different directions in life even when nothing wrong has happened.
you have to admit, this ending tells 2 great phrases of wisdom: 1. that you are your own person, you make your own decisions, and you do not let people command you to do otherwise 2. that you create your own fate, your own destiny, and you hold the cards to your own future. because it is you that creates your own future, not a higher power, a king, a queen. the queen here understands conan as his own man, she respects him for him, and as shows, even loves him. she understands that he does not love him back, and respects his decision and choice to create his own kingdom and create his own destiny. she gives him a goodbye kiss, knowing shes only gonna see him on his throne, sometime in the future. it is also something that you don't see with leaders today, a respect for them. every leader today wants to control something, power is often used without wisdom and without strength.
This is fantasy. Those leaders are pure fantasy like the vertuous and pious knights of old that weren't vertuous and pious but mostly murderers and rapists. Civilization is all about power, domineering lands and people. That's the sedentarian way. A bit of anthropology and history should lead you to this understanding of our recent history (the last 6000-8000 years).
on the disabled part, yes you do. babies are creation. and you don't have to be smart or charismatic to create. a lot of writers and artists are dumber than a bag of weed laced with cocaine. honestly tho, you can't be this single minded bro.
I would rather at this point they leave it alone. Hollywood has already ruined sooo much, they will just add bullshit and politics to it. Let this legacy be as it is, a Legend worth Remembering.
They would just end up killing Conan off and having his daughter . . . Yes, his daughter . . . Continue the family name. And it would be woke, stupid, and lame as fuck.
With feminazi controlling Hollywood he would prob be humiliated and belittled the whole filme by a "strong, independent woman". Let the saga stays how it is. See what they have done to Luke Skywalker and the Terminator already.
And yet, he understands one desire to pursue their own destiny, his blessings was important because of their loyalty to him. Conan is the embodiment of loyalty
Let's be honest. These types of films peaked in the '80s and maybe the early '90s. If they had continued making them, they would have just gotten progressively worse. Even this film, as entertaining as it was, was a step down from the first Conan.
Conan the Barbarian is a masterpiece. Conan the Destroyer is goofy fun but definitely a step down in quality from the original, much like Temple of Doom was for Indiana Jones. I do wish they had made Conan the Conqueror to round out a trilogy much like the original Indiana Jones films, and ended the series on a high note where Conan does become king and rules over his own land.
You know it took 30 some odd years to finish up with TOPGUN... I think it's high time that they finally finish out the Conan story. Arnold is old enough now to play the part of an aging king wearing his crown upon a troubled brow.
yea hopefully its gets made but arnold has said that the owner of the rights is a young guy and couldnt care less about king conan... instead they are doing some streaming series remake bs if even that gets made
1:52 It's equally sad when Akiro parted ways with Conan as it was when Jehna farewelled Conan- remember that Akiro is the only prominent character and perhaps 2nd sidekick that appeared in both Conan films. And of course he's Conan's chronicler, though he would've likely documented Conan's other adventures after the events of this film, but alas, it'll remain offscreen as Mako has since passed on. RIP to a great actor. As for Jehna, although I think Conan made the wisest choice to honor the memory of Valeria(which suited him a lot better IMO) while looking for his own kingdom and queen, his parting with Jehna is still rather bittersweet.
And notice how she doesn't call Conan up to her like she did the others ie potential servants, but instead waits for him to decide when to approach her. Subtle details very well done.
Each of them owed him their life and freedom, and honoured that with their allegiance, queen or no queen. One of the best scenes in this rather dismal movie lol.
And she still is. Lol. This one wasn’t as good as the first one. If it didn’t have Arnold in it, it would have failed miserably. Although Olivia D’abo can be my queen any time.
In a way a bit of a bittersweet depressing ending, even the music feels somber. He saved this kingdom and the princess, but he leaves alone. Despite giving his blessings to his companions to stay with the new Queen, he left alone.
0:42 Zula looks back at Conan, not as a friendly gesture, but because she already pledged her life to him. She seeking permission and to also have her debt cleared.
Given the current political state of films nowadays, I'm fine with never getting a movie showing how Conan becomes king. As long as I know he becomes king, I'm fine with the mystery of how he did it.
Conan the Conqueror is a book authored by Howard himself. It tells the tale of how after he has become king he flees from a betrayal/coup and regains his throne. Its about as epic as it gets hope they do one and stick to original material this time.
@@MALICEM12 The feminism was done perfectly in this film. That's the thing with everything. You go too much either way and it becomes ruined. They are going way overboard these days.
I think the animated Conan The Adventurer series was the closest we got to sequels for these epic Conan flicks. The animated series was excellent with Rathamon being the spiritual successor to Thulsa Doom.
Yea but he wanted to EARN his kingdom rather than given to him because he tapped a woman. I admired that a great deal. He took the real man way toward becoming a king.
Yeah, so she goes back to 'the fool' and orders him to pick up where he left off on the subject of how a man and a woman 'join' and orders his lucky stupid ass to show her how a man and a woman 'join' so there you have it-'join' lol
For those who may not have noticed, the spear seen leaning against Conan’s throne near the end sports a blade and cross-guard identical to the sword used by Subotai. The sword used by Conan’s father in the first movie can also be seen leaning against the throne, adjacent to the spear. This sword is not seen there in the first movie’s ending, though. Now, seeing his father’s sword there obviously means Conan reforged it. But the choice to use Subotai’s sword for a spear strikes me as odd. This could imply a bunch of different things to me, but I imagine this might mean Subotai died before Conan became king.
Subotai's sword is not used here. The blade is different. And cross-guard is similar. But know this that this stuff was designed by the same people for those movies. And it is the same spear that was used in the first film. This film is not a continuation of the story from previous one. They just tried to make them as separate adventures.
About 3 seconds after Conan left the Queen was overthrown Zola and she in turn was killed by the fool. The kingdom broke apart into many squabbling lords to later be conquered in revenge by Conan who planned it all from the start.
