great video! I first got the skierg then the bike erg and now saving up to complete the whole family with the rower. Couldn't be happier with these purchases
Saving the gym membership money to buy equipment is such a simple idea but I never really thought about it until you mentioned it. Haha and I was like Holy crap that's a really good idea. I always see good quality gym gym equipment that I want but think "too expensive". But that's a good way to get what you want with a little patience. Thanks for the tip.
It definitely requires patience so start small with some of the key items like a few dumbbells, kettlebells or sandbag to workout. You can do so much with just these as you save up for some of the larger cardio equipment. If you have patience and are willing to be smart with your money, then it's a great strategy to take.
If you havent worked this out already, you need to raise your saddle height! You should be getting near full extension but no lockout at the bottom of your pedal stroke! Love my bike erg! Added the ski this week! Now its time to save for the rower 👌🏻
Thank you for this note as it is very important to do when using the Bike Erg. Thought I had raised it to the appropriate height before my first ride when I recorded this video but knew right away a couple mins in I didn't have it high enough. I did raise the seat for myself right after making this video from 9 to 11 to get that near full extension. Congrats on the Ski Erg acquisition!! Saving up for it now and you are going to love the Rower.
@@TannerCoxCPA ye ive used rowers for years and still have access to one at my gym when its back open! Looking forward to adding it to my collection tho
Thank you! The bike is holding up wonderfully. It’s great for steady state cardio or for a light recovery ride. I use it all the time for these two purposes and it’s great! Zero regrets on the purchase.
That's an amazing question! There is honestly not much research out there on this topic. Based on my metrics the calorie counts will be the same for the same intensity (for example 1:45/500m on the rower and 1:45/1000m on the bike). You will cover 2x the distance on the Bike Erg but the calorie count will be very similar on both machine.
I am in 2 minds whether to buy bike erg or row erg . which one would you recommend for burning more calories in the same time for weight loss? Diet apart
Great question, Rishi! In general, I’d say bikes and rowing machines burn equal calories. However, I will say you can typically do longer efforts on the bike than the rower. On the other hand you do get more of the full body workout on the rower. For that last reason back in the day I did choose to buy the rower first before the bike but in a given week I do spend more time on the bike than the rower while I feel like I got more of a complete workout on efforts on the rower alone.
@@TannerCoxCPA Great answer , thanks Tanner. I like your setup and the way you set it up slow and steady. In another video in RU-vid someone mentioned that the rowerg uses the posterior chain of muscles and the ski erg uses the anterior chain of muscles and complement each other. But as you said cycling is the most enjoyable and relatable exercise esp when we are in mood of quitting an exericise session.
I am! Hope to have a more in depth video review video very soon and comparing it against the Rogue Echo Bike. I will say the noise level on the bike is comparable to that of an air bike.
I have the Concept 2 rower and was interested in adding a bike but the price of the Bike Erg seems high compared to other options, but I'm still researching. I'm intrigued with the Zwift app but that adds a monthly fee to the expenses. One frustration I have with Concept 2 at the moment is it doesn't seem to work with my Garmin watch that I use for jogging. Might be a way to make them talk to each other that I haven't found yet. Regarding the savings fund for home gym equipment, it's been so long since I paid for a membership I should have a lot of money saved up! Funny thing is I still feel guilt at paying for equipment like this.
Can you do similar workouts as on a spin bike? For example can you pedal standing up to simulate hill climbing as in a spin bike when you increase the resistance.
@@TannerCoxCPA I have an air bike I like it for getting heart rate up but it’s too hard to do everyday , is the bikeerg good for a bit easier cardio , and can you stand and ride on the bikeerg? Lastly is it capable of getting heart rate to 60-80 percent heart rate ?
That’s a fair argument. Gym membership costs certainly do vary across the globe. In many of the larger cities in the US these monthly costs are easily $60-80 (£45-60) a month for the most basic of memberships and can easily be over $100 per month (£75). On top of that there is the cost to traveling to the gym and the time value of money of you spending time to get to and from there. Many companies today are also offering wellness plans to help you pay for equipment (to try and decrease health costs). There are so many interest free payment options out there to which you can buy it now and have it paid off in 9-12 months of gym membership and other costs easily. Been doing this approach for 7 years now to buy new equipment each year with the money that would have gone to a gym membership to build a home gym. Why pay to rent someone’s equipment used by thousands of people when you can own it and use it any time in the comforts of your home.
i'm weighing up whether to get one of these or a rogue echo. i know they serve a different function, so it means having to think what kind of workouts i want
I was thinking of the Echo but now I've decided on the Erg, I just signed up for the wait list. I mostly weight lift so I need something to warm up/cool down with and to use for 20-30 min cardio sessions. From what I've seen the Echo is great for short burst HIIT workouts, less so for the low to moderate intensity work. The fact that it's fairly light and easy to re-sell if necessary is another factor.
I unfortunately do not - tried looking myself with no good options so far as my wife won’t use the bike either due to the seat not being very comfy. I’ve just gotten use to it over the years.
An amazing question and one that I hope to make a video on in the near future. So it probably depends on what you are looking to accomplish. I did buy my Echo Bike first before the Bike Erg, but I now spend a lot more time on the Bike Erg cause I use it for all the low impact work and is a lot of my zone 2 training (30-90 mins at a time). I use the Echo Bike more for interval training of cranking out 1-2 minutes on it at a hard intensity and cycle back to it for many rounds for a workout. If I could chose only one I might have to go with the Echo Bike as it does have that arm movement when using and I'm big on the interval training.
To be completely honest, I’ve never noticed the air blowing onto myself when using the bike. Maybe I’m always so focused on the workout at hand to not pay attention it it? At the very least it is not obvious to me
Love the channel already and haven’t even finished one video. You’re the type of person I’d like to be around. I myself love CrossFit and working out and I am currently working in accounting within a financial institution and considering going back to school for the remaining courses for the CPA. Love the content and I’ll be watching your videos for the next hour!
Thank you so much, Justin! Would encourage anyone in the accounting field to go after getting their CPA license as it can really open up so many opportunities for yourself. Not an easy journey but it's worth it in my opinion. If there is ever any content you'd like to see me post more on them please let me know.
