I arrived at 9am, got my preferred parking, got my Rad coffee, my merch, put it back in my car, got in line and waited less than 10 minutes to get in when the gates opened at 11am. Was able to see everyone on my list! Such a good time and every band had such good energy! Even when I left it took me less than 20 minutes to get out and towards the freeway. I hope they do it again next year. 🖤
The Inland Invasion about 20 years ago was the first HUGE outdoor punk festival in California. It was in San Bernardino at the site of the US Festival and 60,000 came out to see the Sex Pistols, Damned, Buzzcocks, Bad Religon, X, GBH, Distillers, Adolescents, TSOL, and a bunch of the mall punk bands popular at the time. I bailed after four hours cuz I couldn't take the heat.
4 hours waiting to get in, when we finally found the parking attendants they literally laughed in our face and said "go fend for your self in that parking lot." Then another 3 hours to leave! You're right that was the nastiest parking at any festival ever. Positives: The bands went on exactly on time with military precision and sounded amazing! The food, albeit really expensive was pretty damn good. I'm from NY always wanted to go to an LA punk show and hang out with LA punks, this kinda satisfied that bucket list. It was refreshing the next day, went to Bakersfield to see Sham69 in a shitty fire hazard hell hole, just the way I like it :)
Yeah, the parking attendants didn’t seem to care lol. And you’re right. All the bands played right on time. Looking back, that’s indeed impressive 🙌 And you saw Sham69 the next day? That’s bad ass!
Awesome! I wish I lived that close to a venue lol. I left the during the Misfits as well. I wanted to also avoid the huge foot traffic on the way out lol
Your experience was pretty much the same as mine. It was a long wait to get in, so long that I had to water the bushes on the side of the exit ramp. I wasn't the only one doing it, either! My wife and I arrived in time to see some Vandals, Dead Milkmen (finally saw them!), The Damned, Sublime, The Exploited, and others. I've seen Bad Religion, Exploited, and Social D. a few times through the years, so decisions had to be made. I had to see Exploited again, even though I'd just seen them play last year. Been a fan of theirs for over thirty years. Actually, that applies to most of the bands I saw. Like you, I never thought I'd see The Misfits play with Glenn Danzig, and I was so jealous of my brother. He saw them last year at the Phoenix, AZ, gig that was 107 degrees when they went on. He got up front this time with my 17 year old niece who's a big fan (thanks to me and Dad) and almost got crushed. They got out of there okay and loved the show. Me? I danced in the back with the wife and then chilled in the bleachers. Sound was actually great back there, imo. I wonder if we'll get a No Values 2 next year? I hope Descendents headline!
Awesome. Thanks for commenting. Yeah, I felt like my bladder was going to burst after one hour of waiting for parking. And looks like we saw many of the same bands as well. I can’t be at the front anymore with the barricade lol. It’s so much more relaxing to have some breathing room close to the back, and crowd surfers don’t accidentally kick you in the face lol And agreed re: The Descendents!
I've seen a few festivals with high numbers of bands that were mainly legacy punk bands. It's Not Dead Fest, Surf City Blitz, Back To The Beach Fest, Punk In The Park, Punk In Drublic, Gnarlytown, Sabroso, etc. They were pretty common for a while in the 2010's from SGE. This was the biggest of these more recent attempts with the most star power, but the trend already existed on a smaller scale.
Awesome. Thank you for the comment. I think you hit the nail on the head: this was the biggest or the more recent attempts with the most star power. And now that you mention it, I now remember that I went to one of those 😂🤦♂️ So, I looked up my old vids and saw that I went to Day 1 of Surf City Blitz in October 2018! Apparently The Offspring and Pennywise played that day lol
@GabeRivas I missed day 1 of that fest but I was at day 2 for Social Distortion, Rancid, Bad Religion and The Interrupters. Pretty solid lineup. Mosh pits on the beach were fun.
@@wolfhoodlum1789Nice, I did the reverse and went to Day 1. Definitely was fun but I vaguely remember having to empty the sand from my shoes after lol
Honestly if you guys missed the eqrly bands that was your fault. I showed up at 830am and got parking withing 5 minutes. I left after the misfits and it only took about 15 minutes to make it out
Lol. Thank you for your comment. Appreciate your perspective. On the other hand, I think the real problem was the lack of traffic control. If everyone took your advice and came at 8:30am, the issue would be the same. There would be no one there to control the large number of people entering. Also, I had a VIP ticket. If I paid more for access to better parking, why should I have to come early? The extra cost was more than enough to expect an easy route to a parking spot closer to the stages. Neither the route nor the spot was provided.
@@marcoramos8447Wow, I just looked it up on Wikipedia. Looks like they also had Bad Religion, Pennywise and GBH that night with Sex Pistols/Buzzcocks. Stacked lineup.
