Totally agree, the Concorde design is a much better option and a lot less hassle ! If a cartridge attached to a traditional head shell is not aligned correctly and is out by just a fraction of millimetre, you'll almost certainly get inner groove distortion, which'll make everything sound fuzzy (the closer the cartridge gets towards the centre of the record) and remember elliptical is better than spherical (if sound quality is your main concern)

The Pioneer PLX-1000 has a different overhang distance then the Technics has. More TTs differ. But the Concordes can’t be set accordingly and are originally designed for Technics.

As someone who has been dj’ing/making RU-vid videos for decades (I’ve been watching them since you first started making them) I wondered what your opinion was on using a Concorde cartridge with a straight tonearm? Looking on Ortofon’s website they say as long as it’s a spherical/conical styli then it should be fine although perhaps sound quality not quite as good as an s-shaped arm (straight tonearms are mainly designed with turntablism in mind so tracking is their main plus point). Seen various different thoughts on it over the years.

With the concordes you can also place the needle more precisely onto the vinyl because of the notch at the tip
@verenigingvandemagogen4548
@verenigingvandemagogen4548 4 года назад
Yeah especially the new generation Concordes have an even wider notch for even more visibility.

Can the orofon scratches be used just for mixing old skool hardcore, with a little bit of back cue type scratching every now and then, as opposed to full on scratching. Or would you suggest the orofon dj mk2 ?

I've owned the Qbert scratch concordes. They were alright, but not near as good as a Shure M-477 on a headshell. Concordes will jump out of the groove when scratching. M-447 takes an earthquake to skip. You can buy the alignment tool for a few bucks to make sure it's set correctly. It takes a little time and I admit it's frustrating to assemble, but definitely worth it if you want to scratch like a pro. Concordes are my favorite for mixing not scratching.

Q-Bert scratches with Concordes, if a person's scratching properly I can't imagine how these could possibly jump out of the groove if they don't for Q-Bert.

Do Ortofons shred vinyl? I have non- scratch Dj friends that complain about them eating timecode vinyl

Are they better sound quality than the standard ones that come with the decks

HI I'm not a DJ. Can I use Concorde simply for music listening on my Omnitronic DD 2520 turntable (Technics 1210 clone)? Thanks. I don't love headshells, allignments, etc.

Which one is better in terms of sound?

But if you can’t adjust it, you’re counting on your time arm being perfect already to align that needle in the correct past-center position and perfectly square with the groove. 🤷‍♂️

Which they are not. I have checked a Concorde with alignment protractor tool and they are very loosely ‘aligned’ at best

*Concorde. If Qbert can scratch with concordes so can you.*

Im due for an upgrade the scratch MK2 look cool, but the reloop concorde blue are more appealing to me because they match my gear! I still need to wait for them to get released in the states till mid March.

pick the one that sounds better rather than the one that looks nice, if you really care about colour you could probably paint it.

I have the Stanton 500-II (headshell cart) and the Ortofon Elektro (concorde), the Stanton sounds far much better than the Ortofon, its punchy, a little more Bass and also louder than the Elektro
@FSwiftDJ
@FSwiftDJ 5 лет назад
Good video but it's a matter of opinion in regards to cartridge or styli, many djs swear by Stanton 500AL and Technics headshell, I have concords and 500AL both are great , but the scratch stylus is designed for DVS only I would guess, you wouldn't want to play your records with it lol unless you want to wear them out , the best are nightclubs, but they rinse your vinyl grooves (Wear out)

Is The Only Advantage That They're Innately Aligned Or Is There Other Factors That Make Them Superior?
@manukkee
@manukkee 3 года назад
The only other advantages are better visibility of the stylus and the protective cap is easier to use on the concordes, BUT a DJ cartridge like the Nagaoka DJ 03 HD or the Tonar Diabolic sounds much better than any Ortofon Concorde ;-). So it depends what you are after : ease of use or sound quality. I had almost all Ortofons and now i switched to Nagaoka DJ and a Tonar Diabolic, which are the same carts, but the needles are a bit different, the sound is more clear, punchy, defined.
