Concrete Surface Preparation using Diamond Grinding Machine 

Any basic department store cup wheel will work fine. You don’t need an aggressive diamond grit for that. Suggest a T set or double seg on a 7 inch if you are looking at a couple hundred feet or less. May want to consider renting a floor machine or using acid.

Must have read the question wrong. I would just use an 8 inch razor scraper to remove the mortar. Suggest checking with a string line to see how level the concrete is. When the concrete is power troweled the illusion of a flat floor often hides even sever humps or waves. At the low spots simply pour self leveling on to the mortar you didn’t have to scrape off or trowel/squeegee a skim coat over it. You will have an easier time with install and a better looking floor that wont have tiles stressed. 3/4 inch of mortar on one side of the tile will shrink a lot more than 1/4 inch on the other side if you use mortar to fix it while installing. Tons of tips and tricks out there to make life easier with tile. Biggest one I think is installing cut tiles once your “field” tile can be walked on. You can cut multiple tiles in one trip.
