I am a school bus driver and would like to share why seat belts are not on Buses. If students are in seat belts during an accident and evacuation is needed many students might not be able to be rescued. Seat belts jam and would delay evacuation. Seat belt are tossed in impact and could injure sudents. The buses are designed with rub rails the three black rails on both sides of buses. These are to add strength to the walls of the bus and are at specific heights guiding rescue workers where Cuts in walls can be made for recue. Another reason for no seatbelts is unfortunetly they can be used as a weapon intentionally or unintentionally. Lots of thoughts for child safety really does go into school buses.
Then keep pre- k kids off busses. A cheap lie, anyway. They have smaller private busses, seatbelts. Can't afford that? Then keep kids that little off the dam busses
Respectfully, this sounds like a 1960s argument against seatbelts. Fifty years of crash tests, statistics, and empirical observation proves seatbelts save lives... even in school buses

He was driving his Boss's one and only boom truck for FJM Concrete Pumping out of Bastrop. No arrests have been made yet in connection to the crash which has killed a 5 year old boy riding the bus and a 33 year old college student following the bus.
My sisters are both school bus drivers 30 yrs+ each!they take their job very serious but it is alot of responsibility! Not an easy job! They are ready to retire!

Considering the bus was hit head on by a concrete truck and rolled over, it's amazing that only one child died. Still a tragic story, but if this concrete truck hit a van or smaller vehicle, it would have been a totally different outcome. Prayers for all those affected.
This struck Hays CISD hard I remember hearing one girl say that she was cousins with the young boy who had passed away. I was talking about this with a few friends and we said this road will now be the road known as the road that killed a child because even before this there have always been at least one crash on it. From what I have heard the cerement truck was not paying attention while on the road and turned which made them hit the bus. People have been saying sue Hays for not having seatbelts but really it should be about suing the cerement truck company because they weren't paying attention while on the road. Hays CISD lost another student in these past two school years. Rest in Peace Ulises Rodriguez Montoya, Hays cisd will always remember you, and Rest in Peace Ryan Wallace the man who was just driving that day and had no idea what would happen.💚💛 (Edit I would like to add the reason for not having seatbelts is because the bus was most likely made before 2017 because they started to require seatbelts on buses in 2017. Though Hays CISD has not been able to get rid of most of the old buses because most of them are still in good shape and work just fine, so we can't replace of lots of them which makes it hard to replace them as they aren't old enough to get replaced just yet.)
@@kylieharrison3782We already KNOW he murdered a child and an adult. Or was someone else driving instead of that driver?😂 Guess you're pro autovehicule murder of innocents that actually BOTHERED to follow road rules.

I remember being involved in a traffic accident when riding a school bus as a child. It’s completely ridiculous that the USA never spent our tax dollars to install seatbelts on buses. And for the other children to be traumatized, witnessing a child their own age die… completely preventable.
The problem with that is, is that a school bus is literally a tube of sheet metal. The only things inside that give the bus any sort of rigidity are the seats themselves. So what is worse. Being flung inside the bus or being pinned by the collapsed side of the bus? Or being pinned while restrained by a seatbelt? Unlike a car seat belt that is retractable. A regular seat belt is not. Most kids will secure the seatbelt and tighten it just enough so they can "still breathe"! And most kids that age are quite small. During an accident, they could just as easily slide under the seatbelt and have it around their neck. Or slide above and have their legs pinned. These may be extreme examples of what could happen, but they have to be considered. Not even mentioning the risk of fire.
Delta, One answer to that situation is to make sure to install the retractable seatbelts into the seats. Also, to have school-bus fire-drills where The students practice, taking their belts off and filing into the walkway and getting the F off the bus like we practice at muster stations on ships and just like we learn in the classroom These things can be done. Of course, they’ll be called inconvenient, but they’re an investment and is fully and completely possible to pull this off. Why not at least have one bus prototype out there? That way somebody could try out the idea of the school bus with seatbelts, and do some kind of a study to see how the seatbelts impact things. No Pun intended Children should be doing drills to practice getting off the bus anyway
Busses often don't have belts. I figure it's because if they did, schools would have a policy that the bus can't move until all the kids have their belts on. It only takes ONE child who doesn't want to go to school to turn the rule into a loophole.
Right! How does a school district enforce a seatbelt policy? Would a bus chaperone have to be hired? Then what if there was an accident and 1 or more kids weren't buckled up, would that chaperone be charged with negligent bodily injury or homicide? Can of worms 🪱
They know school buses don’t have seatbelts ,, the government should live by their own laws . Why don’t school buses have seatbelts but every other motor vehicle needs seatbelts? By law and you have to wear them by law
that charger didnt need to hit them, people follow too closely. every 10MPH you go there should be 1 car length of space in front of you. if you are going 60, there should be enough space in front of you to fit 6 cars.
If I drove like you say, everyone would be cutting in front of me to fill the 8 or 9 car lengths between me and the car in front of me. But what is important is the reaction time. If you imagine something falling off the car in front of you, how many seconds do you have to react to it? 1 second, 2 seconds? Most people do not give themselves any reaction time and they certainly take up the space between me and the car in front of me, just so they can slam on their brakes and turn right!
They say what the easiest thing is the public will be able to understand. If you said just pumper truck to me, I would think "fire truck" because it is a type of fire truck. Concrete, cement. Mixer, pumper. Tow-may-tow, tah-mah-tow. Of little relevance to the ones who lost family members or have injured little ones.
It looks like a large bucket truck rather than a conventional concrete truck. Or was this a truck that delivered liquid concrete through a hose ?------- Also, we do not know whether a seatbelt would have saved the child. If a heavy object attached to the truck hit the child, a seatbelt would not have done any good.
@@joemag6032 Most pump trucks that I have ever used, the solid pipe boom folds up at the rear of the truck, they don't lay across the top of the truck. That looks like a conveyor to me (I have used both before) because of the rectangular rig on the top of the truck. Conveyors are usually in two sections that fold up and lay on the top of the truck. The pipes you are seeing are the hydraulic pistons used to unfold the two sections and raise or lower the sections above the truck. It could be an older type of pump truck that I have never seen before, but the rig on the top of the truck indicates to me that it is a conveyor truck. At 1:27 you can see the rear of the truck, and it looks like the belt of the conveyor running from the top section to the bottom section.
From the couple of shots in the video, it looked like a Putzmeister 34-meter pump boom. It's a concrete pump with a boom crane and rigid piping to handle cement all the way to the end of the boom. With this device they can pour a concrete slab foundation to exact specifications and the concrete mixing trucks that haul the mix to the jobsite only have to come to the one location where the pump is. The boom operator handles the rest by remote control. Or they can pump concrete up to the sixth floor of a building and anywhere between there and the ground. Most jobs are done early in the morning, wrapping up as daylight breaks. I am curious why this happened so late in the day but a second, or even a third job are not terribly uncommon for these guys. My first line of thought is that the driver might have been suffering from fatigue. Or its possible he was distracted by electronics too. Considering this was a wreck with fatalites between a commercial heavy utility vehicle and a high capacity passenger vehicle, the NTSB may want to get involved unless the cause of the crash is more substantially evident than what they have explained to the media.
We have way too many inexperienced noncaring drivers on the roads these days. This is not fair! Running into a School Bus? Come On! Who was driving that Concrete Truck?????
Me as I see seat belts are worse on a bus especially for pre school due in case of a fire. If you ever see how fast a bus burns up .seconds count . Probably be even worse in one that's electric..
Please 🙏 don’t let your little ones go on field trips that require hours of driving by highways 😢 I never let my kids go far from where their schools are
Well the life of the person driving the charger is as important as all the children. All lives are so precious. Age is not the indicator of value. All are. Just the innocence of those who are too young to know the acts of evil that older do. But two precious souls were lost each holding a value of love from family. No matter the age. They were loved. And God loves them. Poor child. Poor older child. Neither deserved to no longer breath. Sad. Sad.
School buses are built almost like a Tank and are more safe than your car. That's why you see you so many sitting in fields for 40 years or more and the body is still solid
Did you say PRE-SCHOOL babies??? Are you kidding me? So we have a bunch of irresponsible parents institutionalizing their babies instead of having them in the home We're talking 3-5-year-olds. They should be home.
It's a Putzmeister 34-meter boom pump. The boom and pump are remotely controlled by the operator so they can pour an entire slab foundation with precision. Or they can also pour concrete up to the sixth floor and anywhere in between. And yes, Putzmeister is a real manufacturer. There are 2 companies that build these types of trucks; Schwing and Putzmeister. Both are German companies.

We have school buses with seatbelts but it’s not required the students to wear them some put them on while others just sit on them. When on field trips the drivers tells the students they can wear the belts but the teachers tell them they don’t have to. My prayer is for God to always cover and protect us to and fro daily . Condolences 💐 and prayers for these families 🙏🏽
*seat belt or no seat belt, who is going to enforce it if a kid doesn't wear seat belt? No one. Who is going to help the kid unbuckle their seat belt in a fire? its every one for themself.* 🤣
If only highways were designed like a freeway. All it takes is a slight move to the left and it is a sideswipe or head on. I remember when I was young driving in North Idaho having to cross a narrow highway bridge(now replaced) everyday. Luck had it as I cross it, there was a semi going over at same time. I swear there was maybe 3ft or less distance between as we passed and scared me every time. My proposal is that any road over 45 mph has to be separated like a freeway. Wishful thinking.
Dude every time there's a semi accident they say the truck hit the non truck vehicle.. recently I've seen a video where a police car hit a truck that was going through a left turn signal and they say the truck hit the police car.... blatantly lied
I think all school buses should have seatbelts it probably had nothing to do with this situation yet it could help in many other cases of an accident 🙏🏽✨
We really need to enfore better driving tendecies in 2024 there are WAY too many people behind the wheel of a vehicle who shouldnt be its getting bad and its not necessarily speeders that are the problem its distracted incompetent driving with no regards of the drivers behind them
So they say a concrete truck hit the bus I would like to know more details because they make it sound like the bus was that no fault which I’m not saying they were I would just like to know more details
On Friday, news organizations said the "concrete truck", traveling in the opposite direction as the school bus, veered into the bus's lane. I have no idea if that is what actually happened.

The school-bus was clearly going way too fast. Had the driver been going 5 mph slower, he or she could have swerved without rolling over. Also the long length of that bus led to it rolling over so easily. That type of bus was not designed to go 65 and have quick maneuverability and the driver should have known that.
The school and passenger buses shouldn't enter in highway. Because, driving with that massive busy traffic is tertible. Inaddition to that, there is blind spot for bus to. It is difficult to see the car in blind spot wgen change lane. So, it is better not drive bus in high way to avoid fatal car crash.
But, but the illegal immigrants are ok right? Because that's all that matters Yes, that was me being a smart ass just in case anyone is too dense to get it
I had reported bus drivers ! They stop without warning , yes in this roads. I respect busses. But some of these drivers think other people read their minds.
By the time it makes the news the police/Highway patrol has already investigated the accident and done a report so they know pretty much what and how it happened. They may follow up with a more thorough investigation later and bring charges but if they say the concrete truck hit the bus then it crossed over and hit the bus. In this day and age nothing surprises me I've seen not just car drivers but truckers also texting and driving and I don't know if that's the case here but I wouldn't be surprised if there's a phone involved.
@austindenotter19 yep, like the bus getting hit so hard it turned sideways as the following dodge hit the rear.. the 80,000 pound concrete truck (if it was fully loaded) continued to the left after crossing the double yellows, and striking the bus, before clearing out the ditch. Sure is what it looks like. If the wording from the troopers is "the bus was hit by the truck" the truck is at fault.
I noticed that school bus # 1106 haven't washed bus and I seen it's dirty on the back side door and windows and whole bus body dirty why they didn't keep clean bus before departure to filed trip. The department of transportation should knew all buses supposed to wash buses.
