Heat the shaft... not the hub.... or the blade will warp and be all out of balance. Biggest thing with my trick is the hammer chisel/drill which I set to chisel and not to spin for driving it out after using drill bits to heat the shaft and then letting it cool. I make a big jump after the first small pilot hole just to keep bit straight. I have another shop video coming out soon with a timer in background.... I get so many comments about puller is faster puller is faster blah blah.... so my video will be a challenge to anyone to use a puller faster than I can remove a rusty blade without one. Cant wait to see the result, who knows ? Peace John.... keep the videos coming !!
I’m not a professional but have messed around a fair bit with condensers, and other hvac components… those fan blades always have me questioning myself. Happens every time. So you won’t get no flack from me. I enjoyed the video btw.
Ruben Aviles John I enjoy your videos along with Ted Cooks. But most of all I appreciate HONESTY. When we are performing a job. It means everything to one’s self, your co-workers, and especially the public. Keep up all the good work. For everyone makes mistakes. And hopefully they are not expensive ones. AQF
A 3/8 12 point socket will work great on those set screws with the square head. I have a piece of 1and 1/4 stainless 10'' long. with a 1/2 '' hole in the middle that I use to get a hub to move. Works pretty good for me. I always enjoy your videos.
Becareful when installing them motors because it looked like the reversing wires were under the motor mount bracket and will cause a problem later on, best way to get the motor in us from the bottom and make sure to remove the drain plug from the bottom of the motor. Just a few tips to help you out
I am not a fan of those brackets. The Lennox units have those and it takes more time. If you loosen it to much. The motor will fall right thru. Too tight it won't go in. Even tho is a stronger bracket but wasn't designed to be easy. I'll mark the top of the fan blade so I know which side is pointing ☝️. Good work John. Love the scruff
Some hub pullers have those metal ears that u can hook to the outside of the fan blade and pull. I would of tried cutting the shaft on the motor end with a sawsall and putting the hub puller on it
I'd say on the original blade you could have cut the shaft off the motor soaked it in some rust buster by zoom or pb blaster and been able to get the puller on it ....maybe it would've come off ....personally I would've went with a new blade bc sometimes time saved is money well spent
use drill with wire wheel. A 3 jaw automotive puller may have worked after heat if it didn't cause damage to the fan blade. Bring a heavy duty work bench easier than sitting on the ground.
I hate when hacks install that style condenser. Usually they'll put the whip too high where you have to risk cutting the seal tight to get the panel off.
