We get cottonwood by us and they need to be cleaned out every year. Twice a year would be idea. It blows my mind that they don't have a better way to take everything off to clean the coils.

It wouldn't surprise me if you checked out the back side of the circuit board you would find the problem to be a bad solder connection at the fan relay.

Hey Curtis. I have been in this trade for 20+ years and have always told my apprentices to not take short cuts and work safe. So I have to ask, why in the world would you not take two seconds to disconnect the low voltage before changing the board to prevent the possibility of getting shocked, blowing a fuse, or shorting the new board? I really enjoy your videos, but I believe that there are probably a number of apprentices that watch them as well to learn from you and that is definitely not setting a good example.

I have a 2001 American Standard 2.5t package unit on a mobile home in Florida. It works perfectly but can struggle on 95+ days and run a lot. I’ve maintained it for the last 10+ years and my dad did before. I called to have a coil clean done and they wanted $1100! It’s a no remove clean. So I ordered the Nu-Calgon cleaner and spray nozzle. Just go back to doing it myself. I’ve already done caps as well. Preventative due to age. Oh and the last small ac guy I had over put a hard start kit in a few years ago. All the last techs in the past seven years told me to never replace it until it has a major failure. “They don’t make them like that anymore.”

I used to give you the supply air temperature I had a thermometer that would measure it and that gives you a good idea of where things are I also used to monitor my indoor humidity if it went up it wasn't good. It's still Spring until June 20 and around here it doesn't really get hot until then. My folks used to always quip "Hot as the 4th of July" and "Cold as Christmas" .

The tool he refers too is the basic Bic Pen. You pull out the pen (pen tip with ink) and you are left with your PC Board removal tool. One of the vendors we used to service our UPS; their tech showed me this trick with a Bic pen. And not kidding, the company pens they gave away (Bic Pens) had printed on them company name, phone number and "PC Board Removal Tool".

Because in a call for cooling the defrost temperature sensor doesn't come into play.. if it have power to the reversing valve it wouldn't be part of the circuit for the fan.
