@@videogazer801 - if you say so, but you know that’s not the case. They’re all similar for sure but there’s a difference in all of them. Just because everyone else uses all those terms to speak about American Bulldogs doesn’t mean it’s right. They’re just regurgitating what they e heard. Do some research and come back and we will talk. Go ask some White English Bulldog people if their dogs are American Bulldogs and see what kind of response you get.
Thank you for the information. A couple of months ago, what I now know is an American Bulldog, started coming to my place. Later, what I think to be his full brother, also came to visit. One is black and white, the other one looks like Neeland. They would come and go. Both have had their ears cropped and have on matching collars. The black on stayed one time for three days, I was hoping he would stay, but he left and I have never seen him again. The Black and White started staying longer than he was gone, but he has been here now for five days and has even claimed/taken over one of the dog houses. I think he's decided to stay! I really hope so!! He's a FINE dog. I think he was on a chain, the ring on his collar is worn, the same with his brother's. I also think they were turned loose and abandoned. Anyway, not knowing if he belonged to someone, I didn't try and force him to stay, but it seems he's made his choice to live here. He made a great choice with 10 acres to roam with his new pals, all of whom act like he's always been with us.
I find to many don't do enough research and they will just believe the first couple peoples stories about the breeds. I have dug real deep on many different breeds as many link with each other.
I’ve had the most amazing American bulldog. Truly the most misaligned creature ever. But the do look like a Staffordshire bull dog (English breed) and British boxer cross. Also lovely dogs. Would I have another abs? In a heart beat. Saved my partner’s life 3 times and and elderly lady too. Never a dull or sad day with her RIP Katie ❤
Back in the 50's/60's in S.C. What we called ole Logger headed Bulldogs or the Farmer's bulldog. Were mostly of English Bulldog and American Pit Bull crosses. Some even used or added Boxer Bull crosses as well. These dogs weighed up to around 70 to 90 pounds. Some were all-white or mixed white and brindle patches etc. I knew a man many years back that had an all-white Bulldog that weighed around 100 pounds. He said came from the Caribbeans. A real tough and monster bulldog is a APBT crossed to a Great Dane. I saw one that was around 125 pounds. This monster dog was used on a hot July day to game test the famous S.C. Bass' Red Boy American pit bull terrier.
Bulldogs, weed, anything where opinion can play a major role "in facts" is often infiltrated by people repeating things that they've heard from other people, it eventually gets turned into everyone's understanding, until people like us come around and start really asking questions
My American Bull dog (Bully type) has a fawn/brindle body suit with an all white head, white chest, socks and the tip of his tail. He is my third. I absolutely love the breed. All of my dogs I got from Georgia, all from the same breeder.
Heavier dogs have respiratory problems also in the southern heat ... My buddy had 15 Americans Scott's and Johnson the Johnson they were pushing 120lbs. His kennel ac went out one night he didn't realize it one night the 2 biggest both Johnson's died of heat exhaustion. The rest scotts and Johnson/Scott's were fine . He bought them both from Johnson farm in TN.
If only RU-vid allowed us to post photos in comments. I have a female who is 50/50 apbt and ambulldog I was told the bulldog was a painters/margentina on the sires side he a white dog with a big black patch over one side of he's eye he isn't a huge dog but a thick compact dog resembles a pitbull more than a typical ambulldog in the face
I agree with your reasoning on size I have a dogo argentino and he’s great but over heats in these south Florida swamps and just getting him into the swamp buggy is a risk to the lower back
The pup I got from you is 52 pounds at 8 months old she seems to be a little taller and fast as they come. About 40% brindle and 58% white 2% black dots. Everywhere we take her everyone loves this dog and says she's beautiful. My last american bulldog was 95 pounds and around 10 to 12 that weight is tough on those joints. That's why I found your kennel. I'm pretty sure she will max out at 55 to 60 which is perfect size for us.
I got a pup from that same litter Neyland/Monroe (Male) he’s at 70lbs but I’m factoring in that males are generally bigger than females. He’s all muscle, high energy and athletic.. I’m sure he’ll get taller he’s 20 inches @ Withers. He’s got the same markings you described also except a left brindle eye.
Can you post more about bulldogs with the cur/hound traits? I've heard people talk about them, but still can't quite recognize what people are talking about.
My Ms. Bianca looks JUST like your brundle bulldog. She is such a goofy and loving dog. I first thought she was a pitty but her legs keep stretching out longer then a pitty. There good dogs just have to work with them more then other breeds I have worked with. Love your babies!!!
interesting video buddy.. i see your point about the white not being able to be in the field as much. i have also read the 75% white base in american bulldogs so im still learning myself as the boy i have now is my 1st american bulldog type ive owned and researching to catch up as much as possible... i have the only white from the litter and i hae no paperwork so i will 100% be getting a DNA test for my dog.. he is a white dog very similar in muscle mass to a dogo argentino BUT when i got him at 3 months old i was told from a family member that got him at 8 weeks old pup, that he was AMbull cross mastiff or OLD ENGLISH is what we call them..i believe he is scott type cross maybe old english or mastiff. this was argued beween 2 owners of 2 dogs from the same litter and they both saw the parents but i didnt..now looking into what my dogs size and traits seem to be i believe he could be scott type/ classic cross dogo argentio.. i think this because of his colour size and prey drive.he is shorter than a dogo but has the figure and extremely athletic clever and prey driven. his brothers all have golden brow large spots on the head with thicker bones and built heavier ..my boy is actually 75.3lbs 11month and 2 weeks old.. he is all i need and thats all that counts right.very protective instinctively and yet nice as pie also..the more i see him the more i think maybe not dogo mix but its his colour and prey drive that got me spooked originally on this because i have looked into this cross between AMbull and dogo and he fits the bill in every way possible which excites and worries me as dogos are banned in the UK unfortunately.... you said you have an insta? have you got a link or name for that buddy and ill follow.i have pics and videos on my own if interested..you can see one of mines brothers on there to and you can clearly see the difference. opinions on my boys breed welcom but i really do need the DNA test to be as close as i can be to what breed he exactly is.. his brothers do look more mastiff but i know dogos have old english, mastiff and others hense why i suspect the previous owners to be right in a way but tthey havent got the white dog i have and he is fearless too....truelly great dogs these american type bulldogs.i think both scott and johnson have done a great job in keeping this breed type going and personally i prefere the lighter more capable scott types mysef.. my insta name is gaz bugz if interested. i just want to learn as much as possible and opinions come into this aswell like you said..👍 all bulldogs are cool dogs in my book and definately not for 1st time dog owners, thats for sure.
Thanks for sharing man. If you really want to know what your dog is I would go with Wisdom Panel for your DNA test but that’s just my opinion and experience. They seem to do a better job at breaking down the breeds versus just saying your dog is 100% this or 100% that. My Instagram is prideofthesouthlandkennels
Can’t agree more about the ideal size… 60-75 lbs is a great size… I feel like they are just generally more healthy too especially as they age… if your using them for hunting hogs I def can’t see how anyone would want an oversized dog… they won’t have the stamina or agility needed…
I HAVE OWNED AN AMERICAN BULLDOG FOR THE LAST 6 YEARS AND SHES ABOUT 50KG. SHES ALL WHITE EXCEPT HER TAIL AND A COUPLE OF SMALL BRINDLE SPOTS. BEAUTIFUL DOGS 👍 #SUGARMYAMERICANBULLDOG
Howard Heinzl was told by the old timers of his day. That black was not a Bulldog color. It was F.G. Henrey that introduced the black English strain of pit bull terriers. Earl Tudor liked them and was his more favorite strain. The Tudor Dibo and its siblings carry a lot of the F.G. Henery strain. The Colby line carried a white and patch colors.
I always wondered where the color black come from. Even before the Tudor dogs, all of the historical paintings and what not I’ve never seen any black dogs that I recall. I’m starting to believe that two brindles bred together long enough can create black dogs.
Just got an 11 month old about 50/50 black and white hybrid American bulldog seems like he's gonna be pretty big...he's already bigger than my first American bulldog at the same age who was also a hybrid..and at his prime was about 106lb was sure he was that weight because of the quality of food I was feeding him at the time cause...I changed his food and his weight dropped to 86lb he was older that may have played a part in the weight loss
I raised abs for over 20 years, and was very close to John d. and Rayburn Stover. Bought from both, been on both yards. According to Rayburn, the southern white can have no more than 10pct color. His dogs were almost all identical. Tight inbred, but for outcrossed he preferred pitbull
I’ve got my female lady sitting at 78 usually weighs in at about 87 to 89 pounds Doc says she’s right on the money she’s mixed blue and white the vet calls her a pit silly question can American bulldogs be part blue?
My dogs range from 60 - 120 pounds. My pocket is 60 lbs. and can't keep up with my foundation XL that's 85 lbs. without holding onto her harness at the Dog Park. My 100+ - 120 lbs. dogs can go longer than him. I think it depends on how they're built. I've found that muzzle length & build probably has something to do with it.
Bigger is not better if you had to carry a bigger dog out of the woods you would get a smaller dog it come down to the old saying it's not the size of the dog but it's the fight in the dog that counts
If a large size is what makes a great dog why are game apbt and Belgian mallinois the tip of the spear of the k9 world. I think the size you are shooting for is spot on 👍
Sounds like you are choosing dogs based on behavior/performance rather then looks alone. Way to go! That is exactly how the best dogs are bred in Europe and among the best breeders/trainers. Substance over size.
can someone help me i got a puppy his all white but the mother was white n brown i have photos ect if anyone can help but i think it wont let me put them in comment but can anyone help if i email or something please
Good to hear you're breeding your dogs for Ability intelligence, working dogs not color bread worthless floor ornaments. It's funny how BS goes long with these dogs. Someone's that's worried about having all white pups, is like the dumbass that ask does your stud dog produce big litters. Good luck with your plans and it looks like you're doing a great job with your dogs
Back in the day they wouldn't have called them OSW or White English, they would have just called them bulldogs. Of course, back in the post civil war south they would be the only dog by that name. Nowadays you have to make new names so people will know what you're talking about. The White English are more mastiff home guardian than bulldog hunter or herder, so they tend to be larger than the OSW which are classic bulldogs.
I agree with a lot you said however, depending on the area you were in, some White English dogs were smaller Bulldog types. This is information I’ve received from a friend of mine whose family has had these dogs for over 100 years in southern Georgia and northern Florida. I do believe that some White English dogs were more mastiff types dogs as well though. He told me that he would only ever speak to his experience with these dogs and to his family his dogs were White English Bulldogs and they might’ve been 70lbs at the biggest for the males. OSW for sure came in much later as far as name goes from the people I’ve talked to. Actually the White English owners would despise the OSW in some areas because they weren’t the same dogs to them.
Good temperament and good working traits should always come first instead of the coat color. Everyone prefers a solid dog with good behavior over color…unless you’re dense
I agree. People are to binary about dogs. I personally like a smaller dog so I cry every 15 years instead of 8 to 10 years. Oh and white dogs will throw deaf puppies we all know that.
