Join the Go Visit Castles team as they explore Yorkshire’s Conisbrough castle, home of the upcoming Plantagenets with its unique stone keep. Built originally by William de Warenne, the castle that stands today was designed and built by Hamelin Plantagenet. Geoffrey of Monmouth noted that the land here belonged to Ambrosius Aurelianus, one of the candidates for the legendary King Arthur. Ambrosius had the Saxon leader Hengist beheaded and buried at the castle's entrance, under the mound that is locally known as Hengist's mound...

Absolutely beautifully shot and narrated, it's fantastic to see castles up north as we are from down south but are planning trips up north soon so it's fantastic to get some inspiration from your amazing videos! :D

I think it was was Henry II/III would use a window seat just like that facing directly into the chapel so they could talk business whilst still being able to see mass 😂. I love the thought that only time and not space separates us, such an amazing video. 🙏

Yes, we've had some very interesting results tracing our ancestors. And that a few hundred years is a relatively short time considering the age of the planet. Thanks loads for the comment!

They've repaired pretty much all of it, one of the best keeps we've ever seen!

In the 1950s, the Urban District Council wanted to demolish the Castle and use the stone to repair walls and houses in the area.

Just as well they didn't! I believe our connections to our past helps establish a sense of identity; Something that Connisbrough itself definitely needs..

Edmund Mortimer, earl of March, definitely did *not* die at Agincourt. He died in Ireland almost a decade later.

Always welcome comments and feedback -alas, we cannot please everyone - perhaps you could be more specific - in general, or a particular piece? We're always looking to improve where we can, and you're the people who matter.
