Conker's Bad Fur Day/Live & Reloaded Censorship - Censored Gaming Ft. Games Nosh 

It's almost ironic. Back in the day, people used to bash the N64 for being a "kiddy console" and the Xbox was "mature". And yet, the Xbox version of Conker has MORE censorship than the N64 original!

A gigantic monster made of shit singing opera as a boss battle. It's too legendary.

I dont know what is harder to believe a Game on a nintendo system that was rated m or Xbox being the ones who censored it more

Is it just me or does the original retail version of the games make the characters look more animated, expressive and memorable than the supposedly "improved" updated Xbox version?

Whoever thought of the idea to censor the Great Mighty Poo in Live and Reloaded deserves to be fired. They seriously thought it was a good idea to censor easily the most memorable moment in the entire game? How would they even keep it from being offensive considering that you fight a giant boss made of shit throwing shit at you. (No pun intended since he literally says he's going to throw his shit at you in the N64 version of the song) (The word shit is also uncensored)

To be honest, the surgery scene was dark but to me, it was fitting. They were based off the Nazi's, who tortured people, and so there the tediz are, torturing people! Yeah its hella dark but I want to see that scene in the game, since I honestly think it fits the game well. You have a M rating, go big or go home is what I say!

Here's some extra tidbits regarding the removal of the Halo cameo and censorship in Live & Reloaded: In an interview with Chris Seavor on the defunct fansite Rare-Extreme, the magazine (along with a Halo reference in one of the multiplayer maps) was changed because Bungie took offense to the material being used without their permission. "R-E This is that lava map, but look whats up in the sky. Anyone familiar with a little game called Halo can remember what that is. Seems Rareware has taken lots of goodies from Halo eh. Chris Heh, Mr Bungie wasn't too happy about that being on there (last E3 if memory serves me correct) It's changed now...... It's better!!! The Halo guys were alright about it (dev people always stick together, since they know what kind of crap we all have to go through to get a game done)" According a Tepid Set (Rare's Q&A on specific games) that used to be on Rare's official site before the Kinect frenzy, Microsoft had them further censor it because they wanted to sell Live & Reloaded in more retail stores than the N64 version. "Chris: If we allowed the swearing to be uncensored, many of the big retailers would not have sold the game. It is as simple as that. We had it all set up and working, but we had to remove the code when the decision came in. As for the rewards, they are an incentive to get and play Live. At least you still have bots!"

You know, it would be awesome to ask rare to start a kikstarter or similar for an actual "uncut" remake of Conker. And I know this would piss Microsoft off, but maybe they will understand that they can make money out of that!

I'll be honest,I liked the replaced scene of the surgery more. Now,I liked the original,that's actually pretty gruesome but also it makes it more compelling to shoot up all those tediz. The replaced scene on the other hand was friggin hilarious.

I wish the Xbox version had stuck with the "Live and Uncut" thing, with an option to enable/customize the censorship from the N64 version. (well, I guess they'd have needed to change the Pikachu thing enough to avoid infringing on Nintendo's copyright or whatever)

I'll admit, the Tediz operation scene was pretty disturbing to watch despite it being in 64-bit graphics, and I'm kinda glad it wasn't included in the final version of the game as well. :P

Guys I don't think anybody in America is gonna be offended by hitler in a M rated game. I can see hitler being removed in the German version, but why remove it from all versions??

Wow, I was never aware of most of this cut content! Very intriguing little video about one of the most curious games ever made. I am just fascinated by content removed from video games as it allows me to romanticize about what could have been and to better understand the creator's true intent. Do you happen to know if either the ECTS version or the NTSC build ever made it to the internet? -Cinos

Were the singing voices for The Great Mighty Poo different between the N64 and X-Box versions, or did the singer just re-record his performance for the X-Box Live and Loaded remake? Because in addition to the censorship the two versions sound noticeably different.

Oh, this hurts. Who even pitched the idea of censoring BFD and why? To appeal to kids? Then, pray tell, why did they not cut, say, the "It's War" chapter? I mean, what can be more suitable for kids than references to wartime experiments and "Saving Private Ryan", amirite? Or is it, mayhaps, a bat vampire which gets overfed by our protag-turned-underling and consequently falls into the grinder? I have no idea, so you tell me. My point is, if they intended to make it kids-friendly, they should've either remade it entirely from scratch or, better yet, canned the idea entirely, as it is supremely stupid no matter how you look at it.

I appreciate the censored language. I think beeps are way funnier than someone saying fuck. But holy shit, that surgery scene was rough.

You failed to mention that the Xbox version of the Great Mighty Poo theme was available as an mp3, completely uncensored, on Rare's website for a while.

Surprised xbox was so stupid as to censor the game more than Nintendo did. I can't think of any way that could have helped business wise. Must have just had some really dumb executives or something.

That autopsy scene just goes beyond balls-to-the-wall too far. What really makes it fucked up is the music. That song can get stuck in your head for hours and hours and it would fit perfectly for if you're experiencing such trauma, like someone from your family died right in front of you.

I never knew this game was mature. Now that i've seen this video, i'm really glad i bought Rare Replay. (Next thing i'll buy, is an xbone. :P) I'm cautious about Rare Replay selling out like hotcakes, like that mario game, and the kirby one.. Which is why i bought RR. Now i wander about RR's differences...

Well, Rare were actually quite naughty in general, at the time. In fact, as many of you will know, Banjo Kazooie and Tooie are full of pretty (low key) iffy innuendo (even stuff that would warrant a T/16 today), and the bartender in Tooie would be borderline illegal in some places to portray nowadays in exactly the same ways due to certain speech laws. Conker was a lot more explicit, of course, and, like 'Naughty Bear' (PS3/360), no amount of warnings on the case will deter oblivious parents from picking it up for their wee ones due to quickly scanning the fluffy main characters on the cover and assuming it's suitable.

Whenever we finally get a decent xbox original emulator, I imagine someone will mod an iso of live and reloaded to simply insert the original less censored audio files.

Microsoft needs to remaster this game in an uncut version ! Censorship sucks and it's a shame this game has been censored so much, sadly 20 years later things haven't changed that much and the industry is still not mature...

an option to turn on and off the language should have been included, gears of war and brutal legend had them, i wouldn't censor it but it's nice knowing that the option is there.

I can't be the only one that thinks the Great Mighty Poo song sounds very similar to Phantom of the Bwaapra.

Everyone is always quick to point out that there was no advertising for the game in Nintendo Power, but nobody ever seems to realize that there was still an official Nintendo Power Player's Guide for the game. I have it and it's really well written, with humor on par with that of the game itself.

The Xbox installation had an amazing soundtrack tbh

Poop humor and pop culture references were able to hide the dull level design and platforming when I was a teenager, but looking back... It's a rather shitty game

Chris Seavor has since updated his stance on the humor of Conker's Bad Fur Day, saying that if he were to remake the game now, he would remove certain jokes because he no longer found them funny and is embarrassed by them now, one of which being the infamous Mr. Cog sequence, which he sees as making light of sexual assault and could be triggering to victims. Cloud Connection's retrospective on the game mentions Seavor's modern stance on the humor in the latter half of the video, around 47 minutes in.

Well let's say that I played this game when I was 8 or 10 years old now I'm 18 and I still love it I gotta admit that the zombies chapter always spook the crap out of me lol the thing is that I played the original without censure and I never were scared for the blood and all that stuffs and Until I watched on RU-vid this year I understood why the M rating lol

This game is the best example of why censorship is pretty worthless. I played this game when it came out with my three childhood friends at that time we were 8-10 years old. We laugh at the story with it's cartoony characters, the mature humor and references to other works. We enjoyed the multiplayer making this THE game we have to play when we manage to get together. As far as I know, none of us turn into psychopaths, who swears all the time, who enjoy seeing animals suffer and likes to toss balls of poo at people. We just look back at this game and think to ourselves, too bad no one wants to take risks nowaday and try to make something as epic as this was.

That pikachu joke was great and not inappropriate at all. I know that Nintendo maybe didn't want pikachu in the universe of the game, but that part should've been kept, it was honestly hilarious.

Holy shit, i forgot completely how good the Xbox version's graphics were in comparison to the N64 version, its unsettling almost.

If I was to guess, the reason why the other two squirrels were censored in the N64 version was that it resembled the site of Jesus's crucifixion where the other two men were also crucified and Nintendo has a policy of no religious references in their games. Microsoft doesn't have that policy so they probably let Rare put it back in the game. However, that's just my theory and as far as I know, nothing is confirmed.

Tbh, the fart noise made the Poo song unmemoriable, even the beep censor would have sounded better in the song.

Now that I'm a bit older and a bit more mature I don't know if the censorship in the Xbox version is exactly a bad thing, in a way it does kind of make it funnier, because it's like what they are saying is so despicable no one should hear it

The Xbox version had another form of censorship, but it wasn't a cutscene censorship, and is actually a censorship of one of Conker's idle animations. In the Xbox version, when standing still long enough, Conker would pull out a dirty magazine with Berri on the cover. In the original N64 version however, there was a picture of a topless cartoon beaver on the magazine. The image itself is so low res though, and can barely be seen, especially since the N64 version had poor camera controls, compared to the remake.

is too bad that Rare replay only have the nintendo version which in most people's eyes is the superior version. The xbox version of Conker live and reloaded can definitely be added as downloadable content. We gonna have to wait and see if they add the Xbox version plus they can also add additional games of their Cadillac as downloadable content as well.

Even the giant cave woman looks toned down in the xbox version.
