Connecting A Microphone to GoPro Hero 10 Black - 2 Ways To Do It

In this video, I am showing 2 different methods on how you can connect a microphone to your GoPro Hero 10 Black. The first and easiest way is to use the media mod as it has the required ports & cold shoes which are also needed for mounting. The second method is to use the microphone adapter that GoPro sells for earlier GoPro's. It is fully compatible with the GoPro Hero 10 Black. Lastly, I go over a few microphones that I like to use with my GoPro's, We discuss the pros and cons of both styles of microphones.

I can’t believe in 2022 there isn’t just a Bluetooth mic available that connects wirelessly and directly to the GoPro or even just a mic jack on the GoPro itself! This smells like a company trying to make even more money from its customers! Thanks for the video!

I only listen to this dude when it comes to Gopro or DJI. Just wanted to share an issue I had with the RODE wirelessME and the GoPro 10 media mod, In post my audio had excessive clipping and was unusable, and all the online sheep "me" agreed that I had a failed 3.5mm TRS cable and needed to replace it with an amazon 2 pack special, $20 later same results and no audio improvement, also this audio clipping only effected my RODE mic not my DJI mic. So, I contacted RODE and provided an audio sample and tech support was lost for words and on their way to the mail room with my warranty replacement until I found out it was an issue with the audio setting when using the media mod. If you plan on purchasing and or using the RODE wirelessME with the media mod, you have to set it to "standard mic" if you set it to "powered mic" or "powered +" you're going to have a bad time and try to regurgitate everything you just said. Losing audio clips absolutely sucks! if you're a struggling content creator.

When I connected my rode mic through the mod it was still only capturing audio from the gopro mod and not the rode mic. Any recommendations?

Thank You so much! The only video that was able to answer my questions about mics and the GoPro clearly, succinctly, and thoroughly. Staff at Best Buy are clueless, as are so many here on the inter-tubes. I guess I'll need to spend some more cash on a "media mod" or that Ubangi-Stomp thingy. Damn.

I actually find the the mic's on the media mod help cut down on wind noise during outdoor use. Nice tutorial on using a mic with your Hero 9/10. I have all the gear to do this, but most of the time I use the cheap foam winds-layer when I'm filming outdoors. Just because it's faster and easier.

Great video! Thanks for going over all the different options. I’m a fairly new gopro user and picked up the hero 10. Definitely going with the Ulanzi + adapter + rode mic after watching this tutorial and reading some comments. Thanks for including links too.

A big problem with the Media Mod approach is that every time you need to change the battery or memory card, you have to remove the GoPro and Media Mod from whatever mount or grip you're using. And then you have to open up the Media Mod and remove the GoPro completely. Once you change the battery or memory card, you then have to put the whole thing back together again.
