I have a question I want to use this hue lights in my room but the router is in the next room..lets say I setup the hue bridge in that room next to mine will the hue lights work in my room? The 2 rooms are literally next to each other. Second question:If i want to pair my alexa with the hue bridge can I do it from my room like will Alexa detect the hue bridge trough the wall or do i need them to be together for pairing? Last question:If everything works with the lights on my room the bridge in the other room and Alexa in my room if I ask Alexa to turn on the lights for example will she do it even if the bridge is not in my room?

hi thank you for your questions, i will try and answer them for you 1st of all if you have a Echo plus, instead of a standard echo or echo dot then you can have limited function and control the lights without a hue bridge, but i presume you already have a bridge wich will alow more functions, so i will continue 1st question regarding your hue bridge, This is set up and plugged into your router, this is the room your router is in and the wifi signal covers your house in the same way as your wifi from your router covers your house so if you have dead spots around your house this may be a problem, but if your wifi generally works in each room then you should be ok. 2nd question, Paring your alexa, Your Alexa works over wifi and therefore already connects to your wifi, as the hue bridge is connected to your router this will also be seen by your alexa,/echo so this will work in your room, or any other room you have a alexa/echo. I have multipul alexa/echo's around my house and these all work as access points for my voice commands, ie i can turn off my plugs or lights in my garage from my lounge or bedroom, or turn on my front door light from my garden shed etc in my back garden Hope this helps please subscribe

Thanks. It seems now they've changed it and now you do need a hue bridge to connect to Alexa? This is the chat under the Hue skill on the Alexa app anyway...

This is a often misconception, i was told the same thing at the store 6 years ago who wanted to sell me a bridge, mine worked from day one, it is still working today, as long as you have a ECHO plus, latest 4th gen echo, or echo show these all have zigbee controllers built in, if you have a older 3rd gen echo, 2nd gen echo, 1st gen echo, or any of the mini echo dots, then as i have mentioned in my videos, then you either need a bridge or a echo with zigbee on your same wifi network

@@RichManPoorTech so if I have an Echo Dot 4th Gen do I need a bridge or not? 👀
@RichManPoorTech
@RichManPoorTech 2 года назад
@@GonzaloSeminario as mentioned with a echo dot it won't work on its own, where as the full size 4th gen echo will but the echo dot can work for voice commands with a additional device on your network you either need 1 of the following 1 x full size 4th gen echo (not echo dot) or 1 x bridge the Bridge will give your some more features on hue lights, the Full size echo will have some more versatility on other none hue devices

hi , i'd like to say thanks to you and i'm your follower from saudi arabia and i wanna ask you question i plan to buy a philips hue lights and connect it with echo dot gen4 do i need the bridge to connect it ? i mean can't i just download the app and control without doing the bridge part ? i hope you understand what i'm saying and excuse me for my bad english . i really need a help .

Hi thank you for subscribing, the full size echo 4th generation has a ZigBee smart home hub support built in, which would mean that you can use it to control device like a Philips hue without a bridge. The echo *_dot_* however dose not have a built in ZigBee smart home hub. so you need a bridge/hub to control the device on your network, it could be another full size 4th gen echo or echo show or Phillips hue hub/bridge. with one on your network then the echo dot can use voice commands to control, but the commands are sent to the hub/ZigBee controller and then sent to the lights. with a philips hue bridge you do have more control than you do on the the alexa app, but the alexa app dose the light colours brightness and can be linked to other commands all through the alexa app . some Philips hue lights, but not all, can also be controlled by bluetooth app on a phone, these devices will have the Bluetooth logo on the box. i hope this helps you.

What are the things which we can do else with Philips hue bridge, I mean are there any extra features in Philips hue app that aren't in Alexa app?, so that I can skip buying hue bridge and directly buy echo Plus?
@RichManPoorTech
@RichManPoorTech 3 года назад
with the hue bridge you can select shades of colours where as the alexa app you can just select colours, for example you can use blue on both and light blue on both but the hue bridge alowws for the shades in between, you can use more smart features ie turning on the light as you are arriving home, you can set up routines like dimming your lights more slowly or changing the colours, it also works with the hue play where it can change with whats on the tv, more hardware needs to be purchased and things like that

@@RichManPoorTech So is the Phillips Hue app useless without a Hue bridge or will it offer limited functionality as well?
@RichManPoorTech
@RichManPoorTech 2 года назад
@@AbhijeetMukherjee the hue app needs the Hue bridge, you can do alot of the same functions through the alexa app, if you have a echo with zigbee controller eg echo plus, then for changing colours, certain routines etc this can be done without using the hue app or hue bridge

I set my Philips Hue B22 this same way as you showed with no problems. 2 days later it wouldn’t work. I’ve tried setting up the exact same way through the Alexa app and it just won’t find the light anymore! Just keeps saying no devices found. Any ideas? It’s pissing me off 😂
@RichManPoorTech
@RichManPoorTech 2 года назад
It won’t find it because it was registered to your system, to add it again you will need to use the serial number that is on the light bulb, the Alexa app has changed from the last time I did it, I’m away from home at the moment when I’m home I will look at it again

Looks like I’m out of luck. I have the very 1st gen Echo speaker. I couldn’t even discover the light in my Alexa app. I have the Philips Hue Lightstrip Plus which does not require a Hue Bridge. It supports Bluetooth and Zigbee. On the box it also says it “works with Alexa” and Google Assistant. But I was only able to add it to my Google Home app. However, it does not always work with my Google speaker either. Not very stable. I often have to manually control the light using the Philips hue Bluetooth app.
@MrSigh
@MrSigh 2 года назад
Also, my Alexa app menu looks different from yours. I don’t know if it’s because they changed it? Or because I don’t have an Echo with built-in Hub? When I try to add a Philips hue light, it asks me which hub I’m using. If I choose “I don’t have a hub”, then it says a hub is required. Anyway, thanks for reading.

If you have a 1st gen echo then it dose not have a built in Zigbee controller (1st gen echo plus dose have a zigbee controller), i would suggest purchasing a philips hue bridge. i think the alexa app has been updated since i made this video
@RichManPoorTech
@RichManPoorTech 2 года назад
your version of echo dose not have a bridge, If your using "add a philips hue" then it looks for a bridge, if you have a echo show, echo plus, as in the video then you can controll the lights without a hue bridge, but the hue bridge dose add more functions
@MrSigh

@@RichManPoorTech thanks for your reply and suggestion. I’m going to add a Hue Bridge to my setup. Hopefully it will be more stable than now. It’s working with my Google Home speaker but only half the time. Thanks again!

Are you using a 4th gen echo echo plus’s or echo show as these have the built in zigbee hub

If you have a echo with a zigbee controller, press add device, don’t select Philips hue logo, try adding light, then selecting Philips hue, as a brand and add serial number if needed from the Philips hue device
