I have a 66 blade on my keyring. Picked that up from one of the telecom guys at my college.

Where do u get a multie line telephone system for house
@DIYTelecom
@DIYTelecom 3 года назад
Ryan, just about any business phone system could be used at a house. But many houses don’t have the wiring to support it. What you might consider is a wireless multi handset system. Office supply stores or Good old Amazon would be a place I would probably look

gonna try the plyers with a 66 block at my second job. just switched to spectrum with their mta vs centurylinks actual lines. its supposed to work with fax but fax is being sketchy. i wonder if its because i cheated and used just a flat head and the contact isnt sufficent for the frequency range of fax

What happens if you mix up tip and ring? I tried it both directions and it worked both ways... My colors don't follow any standard... :)
@DIYTelecom
@DIYTelecom 5 лет назад
hey Craig. That's a great question. In some cases a "Tip/Ring reversal" as it's called, will not make a difference. For instance with phone service from the Telephone company either way, the phone still works. However, in PBX wiring it will usually make a difference. Thanks for bringing that up! :-D

DIY Telecom good to know. I use it with a vonage... connect the box to all the lines... is their a way to check voltage polarity or something? Like when the phone rings well the red wire fee +12 V or 40 V or whatever it is or something like that

I’ll help you fix the real problem. This shit is old tech and it’s going to be obsolete soon. Get rid of your house line.

I agree that plain ild phone service is on its way out. But, What if you live in a remote location where cellular isn’t an option. And, the internet Jitter is too high to support voip. In some cases, that copper phone line might be the only option. Just saying. 😊

buying this tool just to use just ones is pointless

Good video but it should be done properly. A punch tool is not expensive. If you can't afford a punch down tool, borrow one. If you can't borrow one or buy one, hold off on the connections until you can buy or borrow one. Your IT person if available or if you have one will either have one or knows someone who does. Alternately, call the people who installed your phone system. They will definitely have one. Things should be done properly whenever possible. Improvised solutions shouldn't be tried unless absolutely necessary.

Thanks Chris, everything you mentioned is very true. I am not encouraging this method as a standard practice. 😀

+chrismc410 I generally agree but it doesn't always make sense to go out of your way to secure a proper tool. If you don't know anyone who owns one and a trip to the store to buy one takes 20 minutes, is it really worth it for one single connection? Sure, you could wait, but what if you want to do it now?
@chrismc410
@chrismc410 6 лет назад
PeugeotRocket I'm the wrong person to ask that since punching down 66 and 110 blocks and patch panels is part of what I do for a living. So I tend to think and do things like a professional. I would get the proper tools, take the time I need and do the job right the first time whether it's one connection or a hundred.

@@chrismc410 you would cringe then, to see how we regular folk maintain our cars up here in Gods country... duct tape? heck yeah..a butterknife? yup..that'll do
@chrismc410
@chrismc410 5 лет назад
@@richgouette What happens if the duct tape/chicken wire fails either catastrophically or at a critical moment causing a bigger problem than what you started with? If things are properly repaired the first time, you only suffer and cry once in terms of time and cost. Do it improperly, you suffer and cry twice when the jury-rigging eventually fails. It most likely won't fail today, tomorrow, the next day or even a year from now but it's on borrowed time and a time bomb from that point on, it can blow up anytime metaphorically speaking. True, even fixing things properly can fail as well but the odds of that are practically nil all things being equal. There is a time and place for jury-rigging and ones' demarc isn't one of them with the cost of a punchdown tool being relatively cheap compared to the potential consequences for not. Pulling out and redoing a cable run and certifying that run is an inefficient use of time and resources at best or very expensive and an inefficient use of time and resources in places where working on CAT5/5E/6/7 is considered low-voltage electrical work and thus legally requires a licensed Low-Voltage Electrician to do the work and sometimes, a card-carrying Union Member at that. Yes, asinine but that's another discussion for another time I'd rather get the tool and do it right as cheap insurance if nothing else.

Way till encourage doing it wrong. If you don't have a punch down tool you should not be working on this.

Eric, I agree! But the reality is, even I've had to do this at times when it was simply impractical to walk to the truck (like working in a shopping mall) or I just forgot my punch tool.
