Felt gutted for the rest of team who put in such a shift for the win tonight. Firpo was fuming. Saw Pascal tell him that was f***ing crap too. Then for him to be smiling almost joking with the Sunderland manager. Just foaming
I find it well iffy especially when the linesman had a lengthy chit-chat with the Sunderland keeper before he took the freekick? Match fixing is rife in football.
Frustrating thing is I think he has a good game up to that point. Actually coming out catching the ball at corners. Unlucky with the first goal. Defenders just ball watching at the rebound. Such a shame. Really don't want to bash the guy too much. Just hope them 2 points list don't bite us in the long run 😭
@@JonEP83Agree 100%. Thought he had a good game till that point too. Trouble is: when Meslier does make a mistake, they tend to be big ones! Never seen one like last night’s in my LUFC suppprting lifetime (I’m not quite old enough to have witnessed Sprake’s clanger vs Liverpool!)
@@C-J-LS14 have you never had life throw you a curved ball. Clearly - please please please we need you as our new owner ,manager CEO Head of scouting team Team Doctor. No doubt we then European champs next season.
What game were you watching, Tanaka kept the ball brilliantly...but he didn't play one pass sideways never mind forward, Rothwells all round game was outstanding, I think Tanaka was probably asked to play simple side and back to retain possession and gain control.
People saying he's a good young goalkeeper.... HES NOT.... hes a good shot stopper that's it.... he doesn't command his box, he barely ever catches a ball, his distribution is the worst I've seen in years and years.... you have to be good at all those things to be a good goalkeeper.
Seriously how many more of these from Meslier before enough is enough? This isn't a one off it's a pattern of really bad mistakes going back over four seasons now. That was a really solid (not great) performance from the rest of the team who deserved three points and weathered some tough periods.
So glad you've said that Conor, I couldn't believe what I was reading on social media saying "oh poor Meslier, got to feel for him" no! He's cost us 3pts, in the last game his penalty attempt at saving was another embarrassment! He's not good enough for our club and it needs calling out, something you didn't touch on was his laughing and joking at the end! It shows utter contempt for our club and fans, dreadful.
As Sunderland supporter I thought that was a very fair assessment of the game. Leeds will finish as Champions I have no doubt they have a strong squad. From our perspective we are in transition having been in Div. 1 and finished 16th last season while Leeds have come the other way so I expected to be second best. Still you can imagine I cant stop grinning this morning. Best wishes to you all and hope you make it to the Premiership next season.
They were tough away games. I'd take that at this early stage. It's too early to go top. I'm happy for Sunderland to stay top and take all the heat from the chasing pack.
Great to see the side Leeds work out a plan to nearly overcome a buoyant Sunderland team. The only player I would swap with them is the keeper although I would swap him with nearly all the teams across the football pyramid
The question was asked at the end of the transfer window if you were happy. Not at all. Stated reason "no goalkeeper brought in". Viktor Johansson, Vaclav Hladky, Carl Rushworth, Marek Rodak, and Timo Horn were all available. Yet we persist with this idiot. Then we pick up Alex Cairns when Klaesson left.
It says everything about our goalkeeping department and especially our goalkeeping scouts. Alex Cairns and Darlow replacing or blocking future potential is ridiculous.
I'm a Leeds fan since 1972. Get off Mesliers back! He did not mess up on purpose! I'm gutted too (I watched it) but every goalkeeper has at least one of these in their career. Yes 3 points would have been massive and we'd be joint top but get over it. We will get our luck this season. Meslier will come back stronger... PS: Rothwell is a good solid player and we have yet to see Tanaka at his best! We haven't gelled yet...
Meslier is so hot and cold. That was absolutely abismel from him tonight, it is not Premier league standard and it's by far not championship level either, he definitely needs dropping after that performance.
@@donmacneil547Not as embarrassing as you posting like a 12 year old telling everybody who criticizes a keeper who makes more howlers than most to go support Chelsea. Maybe you should go and support Huddersfield since that is the level of ambition you seem to want for this club.
Really felt gutted for the team, Firpo was pissed off !! Don’t blame him….we had that win in the bag….and deserved! Meslier is a disgrace…terrible keeper
Is it only me and you that think Meslier is pants..As a former GK and GK coach, that is undefencable..also Rodon is 1 booking away from a ban (I think)
Mate, we share the same birthday except I turned 60, don’t think you’re there yet but you’ll age quickly supporting our beloved team!! Leeds were excellent yesterday but what a cock up!!
Robinson and Rob Green playing for England... We have all seen worse. Why don't you go in goal yourself Connor for the next match? I'd pay to see that.
I am in the same age bracket and trying to remember the game it was where Sprake let the ball go under his body? I think it was a cup final game if I am recalling it right? 🧐😊
Yes on top of another 2 dropped with the Aaronson glaring miss in last minute against Pompy, in some ways that miss was as bad as the Meslier cock up last night, but isn’t seen as bad, so 4 points wasted already could be the difference at the end of the season
You do chat some rubbish sometimes Conor! Yes it was Meslier's fault, but he didn't throw the ball in the net did he? Are you aware what a throw is exactly? 2 Pt's isn't the end of the world, but 4 would've been amazing.
Meslier man! I was at the match and he actually did alright all game. Actually caught most of the balls into the box comfortably for a change. What a shame how it finished.
I remember one if your preseason videos stating that he would cost us valuable points. It is simply not good enough that he is an automatic choice with no real competition
Farke has dropped onto best mid field combination Rothwell was superb.Meslier should've been honest with any concussion but always has a massive mistake in him.we controlled that game and I would be shocked if he doesn't get a change.Superb performance last night bit ruined by Meslier .
Meslier can't catch, can't pass to a player accurately, absolutely dismal, drop this player for good, or goodbye promotion, at the same time Farke is Farked.
Conor besides the first ten minutes it was one of our best team performances. Given the fact we had a long journey and tough away game at Norwich (Norwich were better than Sunderland IMO), and have a whole host of injuries, the lads did us proud today which is why it stings even more that in the last second of the game we have that crap! The crossbar cursed us in Pompey match, Solomon slipped to give Burnley a win, and now this. We really need some good luck coming our way. They didn’t even have a shot on target in the second half. We made them look very average for large portions of the game
Conor - you said in the xfer window that because the defence was strong his value was high? Well guess what? We didn't offload when we could have and I reckon that screw up cost us not only 2 point but about 3 million quid. Utterly shocking.
I was up at the bar and missed the last goal - but when I saw the updated score I instantly said to my mate - I bet ya Meslier is to blame... he's always to blame like. He couldn't save money in a bank
You be out if you made a mistake in your job. Stop talking nonsense. Hes got away with mistake after mistake after mistake. Hes been giving enough chances to stop the mistake but he keeps making them. Jesse Marsch, Tyler Roberts, and others weren't giving the chances meslier has been giving.
Thing is Meslier could do that in the next game and the one after but he'd STILL keep his place in the team. There's no competition for the No1 spot whatsoever. Hasn't been for 5 years.
Yes remember David Harvey and Gordon McQueen (McQueen went to the sum) having words in a game. Forget what it was over. "Great" player David Harvey, Allso if Jack Charlton was there Friday night he would have giving meslier a roasting and put him in his black book.
I think it was the right move playing Piroe, he closed down, he held the ball and played some really good football. Brendan probably does help with his coverage of the pitch, although I do think he looked tired tonight after 3 games in 6 days. Mes sucks, a GK that can't catch a ball is not a GK, after seeing him doing that tonight I was shouting just punch it clear haha. AO and Rothwell were awesome tonight
I’m still outraged, every time I watch it back it gets worse, it’s a career ending ‘howler’ I know Meslier has shocking moments but that was something else, I’m genuinely questioning if it was on purpose
@@theunambiguous I thought it could have been on purpose( or delayed concussion), but he makes these mistakes consistently because he is simply very poor
I agree. I think we’ve lowered out standards. When he catches the ball these days we think that’s like a top thing! He makes the odd save now and again, lets face it most of us could do that now and again. He might get good in the future but he’s not good enough for Leeds
The good thing is, The Farke out brigade will be fairly quiet for two weeks, although, im sure their equaliser was Farkes fault and it will not take them long to be back !! So a nice couple of weeks looking forward to the Sheff game at home. In a good position with loads of points left to claim.
Sheffield United are currently the best team in this league, would be 2 pts clear at the top if not for the deduction. After the break the best attack plays the best defence. Sheff Utd still unbeaten and with the current defensive lineup have yet to concede a single goal this season, that’s now 6 consecutive clean sheets with the goalie seeing very little action so far. Looking forward to seeing if LUFC or SUFC are the real deal at Elland Road in 2 wks.
Some goalkeeping errors can be forgiven. This one can't and won't after this weekend we will be lower down again in the league instead of where we should be. That team last night worked hard together as a unit to create that win only for a fool who should have been concentrating given the amount of money he is being paid.. When we do go up this season this will never be forgotten
A keeper with natural instincts would have moved to the ball....Meslier was backing up and lost his balance....the ball played him, he didn't play the ball....he is what he is.....what he isn't ....is a winner.
We keep talking about the quality of other teams and how we shouldn't be worried, but we haven't beaten any of our league competitors, lost to Burnley, drew to Norwich, drew to Sunderland. So, how can we be confident regarding winning the league?
It’s not so much the blunder today, it’s more the fact that Mes does not inspire confidence in me … ever! He doesn’t command his penalty area. He punches and flaps too much when a simple catch will do. Too many balls he kicks out end up at the feet of opposing players in dangerous areas or out of touch. He has the occasional good one-on-one, that’s it. Iverall he is bot a Prem keeper. Get rid!
A lot of bloody hard work went into that game, Third game in six days and then for that too happen right at the end, If i was one of Leeds outfield players i would have been absolutely seething.
Excellent performance by Leeds, fully deserved the win. Meslier was having one of his better games I thought. He took a few crossed and looked confident and then that happened. Us he the kind of player to shrug if off and bounce back? I don't think so, this will affect him. Worried!
I'm sure the lad is beyond gutted by this horrendous howler , 3 points lost and I was fuming as I'm sure his team mates are after a quality away performance, but look , nobody died folks , we're in a far better position than last season at this stage , we put it behind us and support the lad , we march on together. oh and disgraceful support by Sunderland , stadium half empty 5 min to go and only one goal down , absolute disgrace.
Conor, Goalkeeper is the most important position on the pitch! The whole team can flog themselves for 90 minutes… and it can be thrown away in an instant by one individual stood between the sticks. A good keeper breathes belief into the whole team…
Draw was definitely a fair result. Leeds had the quality we lacked. Obviously they should. But Leed's two goals should not have happened if we had actual decent refs.
people saying meslier had a good game until that point are deluded, he got away with dropping the ball, and consistently tried playing balls into the middle which we was losing and it was putting pressure on us !
A freak moment. But Leeds were good tonite. It can totally kill Mes confidence this. Im nervous about Ilian this season. Piroe? Well, best finisher at the club. Deserved his chance - and took it. Worked as hard as anybody. Many plusses, Gnonto was razor sharp again. Aronsen? Hope he starts playing for the team again. Let Firpo have his chance and let the ball roll on to Gnonto. Two times he wanted to be the hero when he should have chosen 'side before self'
Thank you CONOR 👍👌 MESSLIER ruined a fantastic away performance from the team 😥😢 We were absolutely brilliant, played so well to get back into the game when we equalised & then took the lead also & then looked threatening for another 1 or 2...😢😥🤦 Some absolutely outstanding performances from most of the players in what could be considered a very tough match away 👌👍🙏 It was a good game to watch also, totally ruined 😥😢😤😡💔 Hope the rest of the weekend is going to be good 🙏 3 fantastic points really well earned completely snatched away 😢😥
"Don’t worry guys, if you can't beat us, we will do it for you." As per bloody usual we just have to self distruct, we have to go that extra mile to piss up the backs of all the travelling fans who paid their well earned pounds to witness something that will be remembered for decades to come. Just like when Sprake threw the ball into his own net against Liverpool. Im still, the morning after the night before; bloody spitting blood. So, instead of going into the international break sitting pretty at the top of the league, in brilliant Leeds style we once again shoot our self in the foot, as per. We were great last night, every player did their job, we got the goals and put Sunderland in their place. But "Oh dear" What a mess with 10 seconds to go. Unfortunately for poor old Firpo, he was credited with an own goal because it came off his head. Laughing stock of the whole football league.
I really really appreciate that you didn't just "rant" about M* from the get go and for 12 minutes, but instead really talked coolheaded about everything. Was refreshing and helpful for me.
I think at the start of the week not getting beat away at Norwich and Sunderland wouldn’t be too bad , but last night felt like a defeat ! I just hope those two points don’t cost us at the end of the season 😕 The overall performance was encouraging , We need to move on put this behind us and let’s see where we are in January .
Christ sake stop blaming Meslier, it was a wicked spin caught him out! It happens! He did brilliant save earlier on! We were fortunate with Piore goal! So draw a fair result!
The most basic lesson a goalkeeper learns is get your body behind the ball. Under 10s know how to do it. When a professional goalkeeper fails at this at the most crucial moment of a game, i dont know what else to tell the club anymore. We're going to waste another season with this mannequin in goals. Save a few pennies but lose an entire long term plan over this guy's feelings? Come on! I thought the 49ers were a serious outfit.
How can you even think Leeds deserved that win, you had an offside goal and the other which came from an apparent foul wasn’t a foul, poor refereeing. Sunderland were unlucky to not come away with 3 points
Leeds will win this division! This will be laughed about come season end. Meslier will play his part in winning the league, he will go onto be a great keeper. Too much put into him to give up now. Keepers hit their peak later on. Absolute monumental cock up, no doubt but it will make him better n stronger! Mark this comment.
Imagine playing 3 hard games in 6days thinking youve got a hard won performance against the inform team away in league and then that french baguette does that last minute🤦♂️ morale killer or what
Absolute shocking keeper, been saying it for years. I (and I'm sure I'm not the only one) have an anxiety attack every time the ball goes near him. We were brilliant Friday, and then THAT! Inexcusable. Step out and f*cking claim/catch the ball, even punch it out, doesn't matter! But let it bounce like that?! WEIRD as hell! Hopefully he doesn't come back from this mistake. The sooner he's axed from the first team, the better.
Shocking mistake by Meslier . Conor quite correct . To say hes not good enough for this division though is absolute rubbish . He was voted by his peers the people and the players he played against last season , better people than us , to be in the top 3 keepers in the division Bielsa himself played him as his no 1 for a season and a half
Agreed a real howler, but thank goodness no-one commenting on this post ever made a mistake in their job. The 'keeper is going to need all the support he can get to regain his confidence and, unless Leeds have a ready made replacement, the ' keeper is the one they've got and the supporters should show a little empathy. 😎🇬🇷
That would have been a statement win we were the better side Tanaka and rothwell were superb at the base of the midfield got caught out a couple times but they'll get better with each game conor i can't wait to see the back of this goalkeeper i think he's a poor goalkeeper who thinks he's better than he is I've been slaughtering this guy for the past 4yrs
I’ve been saying for years this keeper not good enough for this club. If we don’t get promoted this year there is only one person you can blame. Should have sold him ages ago.
I don’t think we played well tonight. Other than the goal there was no tactical build up or really clear chances. They looked like they had more of an idea of what they were actually doing going forward. Not going up with this manager
This is the personification of what’s wrong with Leeds United fans. This guy is using two peoples opinions of what football should be and how it should be played. He’s telling you ‘I told you so’ even when players he likes don’t start. He’s changing a match review into an argument about a players ability. Think about that. Or be foolish and accept this nonsense.
Meslier has been disastrous for too long. He was a big part of relegation, failure to get promoted and is still making infantile mistakes. Concentration, composure and courage are all qualities he lacks.
"Never seen anything like it........" Robinson for England? Balls go through goalkeepers' legs. Porto keeper this week cost his team 2 goals. Leeds pride themselves on having great fans so are you going to boo when his name is read out? If he is being picked it means that Farke judges him to be the best that the club has.
You always get the feeling that Meslier has those mistakes in him. Yes, he makes the odd good save here and there, but he always compounds the situation with his stupidity.
Aside calamity who we don't mention. For me outstanding performance and result against nailed on top 6 side. In df arguably his best two out. Our mf smashed it. Both were tenacious cool and skilled. Gnonto beginning to boss game great to see. Mj should have started 1st 10 showed that we needed ball to stick piroe should nothing at that time. All in all well done lads. Gk has to go in Jan.
Best defensive team Leeds ever had, under Revie, had a GK who made notorious mistakes. Liverpool Kop singing "Careless Hands" to Sprake. Your Dad has a short memory. Porto GK, supposedly one of the best GK in the world let, not 1, but 2 goals in at his near post v MUFC. GK make mistakes and when they do it usually results in a goal. It doesn't detract from the performance. If we had been offered a point before the game we would have taken it. It was a horror of a mistake in timing and magnitude.
I feel so gutted to lose like this. I don't get why he backed away from the ball. I played rugby for over thirty years and you never let the ball bounce. It's no good looking at the pitch when you had time to get to a spinning floating ball. I'm still scratching my head!
We're still paying for Victor Orta's sins, he put Meslier on big fat wages (like Bamford) and that's why we nobody will come in for IM, they can't match his wages. IM has already cost us points this season and he will cost us promotion at this rate, get him out for his sake and the club's sake.
You may like to consider that Sunderland are "decimated by injuries" too-we have a much smaller budget to cope with them too. We are on our third centre back pairing of the season. Our side is evolving too. Would you agree that we we were the better team for fifteen minutes and the last 5-10 of the first half. We also had more possession in the second half. The stats suggest it was even. Goals change and determine matches and while we were fortunate with the equaliser, there was no hint of offside about it. We are disappointed Job didn't score from those three big chances. The three matches in six days takes its toll- more so for sides with less resources. Messlier was beaten by the cruel bounce so dont beat him up for that. was he concussed?
Why are you comparing your goalkeeper with those of Madrid, Liverpool etc. I get you are disappointed by the way the goal was scored but you have whinged from start to finish. Better side every week? get real
