Era? It was like 3 good wins... Aldo, mendes, and alverez.. you casuals really trip out.. yall like to say holloway, and poirier... Those dudes were green af then... Nothing to what they became . They look completley different and cant be considered era material..not at the time he beat them... Hell even medes was short notice.. medes ran outta gas due to that ... Lets be real here.. conor has a handful of credible wins... Ill count mendes. But aldo, alverez. And even if you count holloway and poirier , which you shouldnt, that 4 credible wins in the ufc...
@@no.step.on.snek.2423 lmao they aint casuals for praising conors rise, you're the hater for not seeing it. Absolutely max and dustin where no where near where they are today, but how easily conor won and made them look like amateures makes ytou think how good he actually was. Hell, he even made it look super easy against Alvarez, why cant you guys see how good the man actually was, he never fought a bad fighter during his rise.
That Conor Mcgregor era was DIFFERENT. I remember he was starting to blow up my freshman year of high school (2014) and I wasn’t into mma as much as I am now but I just kept hearing his name.
I will never understand why Conor went away from his insanely unpredictable style of mixing in kicks, knees, elbows, spinning attacks out of nowhere, mixing in a take down here and there, giving you so much to worry about and then boom hits you with the deadly left hand to put you away with one shot. I understand the competition wasn't as good back then but his attacks were so effective and entertaining and he used to give his opponents so much to worry about... and then gradually over time it just seems like he only relied on his left hand and a few teep kicks to keep his opponents at range. And yes i know that worked for him very well at featherweight but eventually his game became so predictable and he never adapted to the evolution of the game, all he does now is rely on his left hand to hopefully catch someone. Aside from the money and fame, just looking at conor as a fighter, I'm very disappointed in how he just basically became a boxer with 4oz gloves on. He still brings the fight every time and never has a boring bout, but I really wish he kept his unpredictable style from when he was younger... is his coaching to blame?
Leg pain probably got something to do with it. As you get older that stuff never goes away. And he has been issues with that since years ago so it’ll only get worse
Kinda think training for Floyd screwed his style up long term unfortunately, with that said I don’t think he’s washed by any means. He’s been fighting the best of the best (Cowboy aside), if they could get him back to his style around the Eddie fight, he could stick around the top for a little while longer. Although, he may just do big money fights going forward
Ok, let me help you understand. Ypu are a world class athlete, with several KO victories. You get run down by Nate Diaz at a weight class you've never fought at..... and now all the sudden, you are a tap machine. Every single fan that ISN'T supporting you, now says you have a cardio issue. People like Joe Rogan having guests on his show like Firas Zihabi, who say you CAN'T fight any other way. Fast Twitch muscles this, can't make it past round 2 that. Every single person, fan and media outlet, all say you have a cardio problem. Then you run out of steam against Floyd. The narrative continues. Do you think. At any point, Conor was desperate to be known as a 5 round warrior? Even the man who can shake off any trash talk, do you think he may have been desperate enough to change the narrative, thatbhe changes his style as well ? It's easy to fan in love with one aspect of MMA. BJJ guys get obsessed with striking, or a wrestler gets a KO so now he's a KO artist. Kickers like to box.... Conor changed from pressure, time, age, hus body changing, and out of a desire to win. He wanted to be the guy that can finish you in round 1, or last through round 5. The conserved, big hits show that.
@@floatinggoose9197 great take sir, makes a lot of sense. Specially with the 2nd Poirier fight, he wanted to get a few raunds in. Biggest mistake of his life I suppose
The sight of him wrapped up in the Irish flag 🇮🇪 with the two belts on his shoulders is one of the greatest things in the history of the UFC and it will forever be engraved in my memory. McGregor era was sick 🍀
He fought nobodies... When real fighters showed up they made him look like an amateur.... "mctapper era" LMAO, guy went from fighting Khabib and Mayweather to calling out KSI and chandler... Calm down, the world knows he's a clown and will never touch another real belt ever again.
@@RealHoopSeason what are you talking about about he fought nobodies, Conor beat, Jose Aldo, max Holloway, Nate Diaz, Eddie Alvarez, donald cerrone, etc. you just hate conor lmao
@@hunduns9901 hes right he is and will forever be the face of MMA and the UFC lol accept it boy he changed the UFC in the craziest way ever, no athlete has ever given his sport even 10% as much of exposure than conor has given the UFC, he gave the UFC so many more subscribers and fans, no athlete ever brought as many fans to a sport than Conor brought to the UFC and MMA with his fame and super stardom. Everyone knows who he is even my fucking dad or collegue that never heard another MMA fighter name in their life lol, and many started checking out his UFC highlights and fell in love with the sport and started to watch it every time just like me to be honest Thank you Conor, 1 if not the biggest MMA legend together with Jon Jones
Yes, I also just used to find his style of unpredictable, calm, vicious acrobatic entertaining and it made conor who he was (plus his infamous trash talk)
@@thegamingcook785 he will only come back for money now and as he is no longer a fighter but a brand… Connor will want millions to fight. He’s more into business now
Conor was the beggining of the finesse over force era. He embodied technique and mechanics over strength and power. Conor was a true martial artist and started the new era of fighting. He brought the game to the next level like it or not.
people don't want to acknowledge this. look at him resisting Khabib's takedowns for example, incredible balance. he put up an intelligent contest away from the fence. others should have been taking notes
Anderson silva was doing it before Conor mcgregor. Silva didnt have quick knowckouts like conor, but he gave a new meaning to "skill" when he toyed with his opponents. Conor has skills as well ... but what i am saying is anderson silva brought that to the table long before conor did. The twist that conor brought to the MMA world was that he showed MMA is "entertainment business". Other fighters were all about being humble, being best fighter, all about belt etc etc .... but conor showed that there is more to it .... he showed how your entertainment appeal need to extend outside of ring as well (press conferences, interviews, etc). And now many other fighters try to copy his template
I don't think I've ever seen a more electrifying and unpredictable striker than Conor when he was fighting Alvarez, so much skill and an unbelievable drive to succeed. Conor deserves everything he has now IMO. I really hope he doesn't come back to fight though, the reason he was great was because he was climbing the mountain, he had hunger and drive, unfortunately his fighting career started declining when he had reached the top. No disrespect in the slightest, he's changed the UFC forever and I hope he comes back as a commentator or creates a podcast about the UFC, really hope he stays part of the sport but just not as a fighter.
Great era. His technique was ridiculously unpredictable and amazing to watch. It still annoys me till this day that he stopped constantly fighting after UFC 205. I know he had a kid and wanted to take a break but his breaks were wayy to long. After UFC 205 one foot was already out the door.
@@BrokeProphet yeah..we will see..now we talk..let talk..talk about warrior but become the tap king..go to sleep..why tap ?? King of tap..we will see..
People take his record as a staple for his career. The dude dominated his weight class for a few years. Conor is one of the most dynamic fluid fighters the UFC has ever seen.
"The dude dominated his weight class for a few years" he just worked his way up the ranks, dominating a weight class is becoming and staying champ for a while, dumbass.
yup. he completely changed into a pure striker since the injury he took from 2nd round on Holloway fight. he had a year layoff after that because of surgery, I believe it was an ACL if my memory doesn't fails me. but yeah, Conor back in cage warriors and his first 2 UFC fights are completely different since the Brandao - recent him.
hey larone I'm sure you hear this often but your videos are all brilliant. I've been a casual fan but never really did a deep dive into mma until recently, and your videos have helped to catch me up on these events that i missed out on. you don't miss a beat, from the pre fight interviews to the highlights to the post fight. good shit, keep it up!!!!!
Paved the way for everybody in the company now. Did what some of the guys who came in around the same time he did are still chasing. 2 belts. Some guys like Dustin haven't even gotten one. They're still chasing. Don't question the man's drive or his motivation because he continues to fight even after an already incredible legacy and making the most money in the sport
@@amediocrerocketleagueplaye9008 absolute crap lmao. RDA was knocked out by Eddie and so was Justin Gaethje who is fighting for that belt next. Oliveira and had Eddie had two wars with him . Give Conor his credit was close to finishing chandler and
@@amediocrerocketleagueplaye9008 lmao Justin Gaethje got knocked out the first time in his entire career by Eddie Alvarez lmaoo and that was not even a year after Eddie Alvarez had fought Conor, it was like 8 months after the Conor fight lmao so yes he would lol no Lightweight beats the Conor that fought Eddie Alvarez the night that Conor fought to be the first champ champ in his history. He looked untouchable, made Eddie look like a fucking amateur and Conor has never seemed nearly as motivated for a fight than that one
Intentionally? He's lost to Diaz, Khabib, Dustin twice. Beat Diaz in a rematch, beat Alvarez(probably the worst champion in ufc history), beat Cerrone(who has permanent brain damage) He also went to boxing... all of this since 2016 Before that I agree, he was the most entertaining person, and also fighter because of his flash knockout capabilities. If he fought at featherweight his whole career, probably would have suited him more. He hasn't done anything since moving up, again 2016!!! I would put him in the top 10 ufc fighters of all time, because he was the first double champ. But mostly for what he did at featherweight
@@edris2701 The thing is man, let's look at that: He lost to Diaz but let's not forget that he fought him on 11 days notice up from lightweight champion RDA to Nate, a completely different style of fighter who flourishes in 5 round fights (even when he loses he just seems to keep going for 5 straight rounds) which was particularly bad for a heavier Conor's first time at welterweight. He lost to Khabib but did better in some instances than Poirier and Gaethje (e.g. the takedown defence). Again with Dustin, in the rematch he was piecing him up until the leg kicks kicked in (again, it's entirely his fault due to the boxing stance he was using while preparing for Pacquiao) but his striking was miles ahead of Poirier's aside from the odd shot. In the rubber match it was pretty even and McGregor broke his leg, not a legitimate win by Poirier at all and should have been a no contest. He put on a masterclass against the same Eddie Alvarez who destroyed RDA in one round, gave Poirier a good fight before the DQ and knocked out Gaethje in his first loss (pre head movement Gaethje) but still, it's how easily Conor dismantled him. And you're right how boxing was the worst move he could have ever made. And I agree his best moments were in featherweight beyond beating Nate in a 5 round war and utterly ruining Eddie.
@@user-nv2wt4hi8t Him going to boxing, just took time away from him improving his weakness. Cardio and grappling, which can work together basically. I just think his legacy is being tarnished from what it should be, by his own doing, not that people are intentionally putting down what he achieved. Every fight from now on, will just target what he's not good at.. lightweight aint no joke. Justin, Islam, Dariush, Olivera, even Poirer one more time. Heck, even Tsaryukin is gonna be a problem!!!
@@edris2701 u have to appreciate Conor’s braveness, he wasn’t scared , he moved 2 weight classes to WW to fight nate Diaz only because RDA pulled out (lightweight), fought Diaz again in WW, out of the octagon for 2 years of inactivity and came back to fight khabib, left for another about 2 years to move up to ww and fight cerrone, then inactive for another 2 years to fight dustin back in LW
Love Conor for his attitude he brings to both his fights and whenever he speaks. Hope he can come back soon but perferably he should use his leverage as the most popular fighter to maybe get a stylistic good match up for his first fight back.
Genuinely think he can make a comeback, in his physical prime right now. He really just needs new coaches, and even against poirier in the 3rd fight when he broke his ankle, he was looking solid like he might win. Had poirier in a guillotene and the dude started using the cage to get out of it, shitty ref tbh,
Assuming you didn't see how much Conor cheated during the Khabib fight for one example hmm? You leprechaun fan boys are among the most deluded people on the planet. I envy your ability to see things how you do, I need mushrooms to replicate it 😂
😂 he looked horrible in the 3rd Dustin fight. Conors best round is the first and then he starts fading while Dustin’s worse round is the first and he gets better as rounds go on and Dustin won the first round too in that fight. Remember Conor went for the takedown cause he didn’t wanna stand anymore lol. He had said 1st one to shoot is a bitch and he shot first.
One of cleanest strikers ever in his prime, best fighter on the planet for a couple years there, cut short by all the boxing crap. Very unfortunate he left MMA for so long during his prime. Still one of the greats no doubt, quite a resume. Brandano, Porier, Holloway, Mendez, Aldo (when he was Aldo), Diaz, Alvarez, etc. Some run he went on...
When conor put out aldo with the first strike he threw 10 seconds into round one the whole mma world knew the hype was real. Watching him lose to nate and make no excuses earned my respect. Hope they wrap up that trilogy. That combo to Eddie was vicious. Precision to the max.
Not a fanboy but can respect how truly unfortunate the leg injury has kept this man out of the game. Would be an incredible comeback for him to actually get that title again.
The clash between him and Khabib was every MMA fans dream. Such contrast in fighting styles and personalities. And both at top of their game, doesn't get better than that
Conor McGregor the icon!! The excitement he creates for his fights is next level, from the press conference to the event, his star power and charisma is unmatched, a true global superstar. He truly changed the sport of MMA, helped it grow into a global phenomenon, only one Notorious Conor McGregor 👏👏👏
Man Mcgregor hit like Thor's hammer for his size. Diaz had to cut weight to make 170lbs and is 6'1. Conor was the 145lb champion and only 5'9 fighting Diaz 2 full weights above Conor's division and Conor was still dropping Diaz over and over. Gotta give Nate props for taking all that damage even though he slurs his speech now and his brain seems damaged. That Conor that landed that 4 punch Combo on the bigger 155lb champion Eddie Alvarez was simply...MAGIC !!!
same Conor has given the UFC more fans than any other athlete has given his sport its so crazy, Conor also got myself into watching the UFC and loving his fights, shit it even got Khamzat taking going professional in MMA serious he said after the Conor vs Aldo fight because he saw how much money Conor was making and what a big star he is and he thought why not me some time in the future its my dream and he started going way harder and will be a champ in the future Conor changed the whole UFC and the whole sport of MMA
You became one of the greats man, the first double champ in UFC history, I really want to see McGregor back and fighting again, nobody can generate hype and interest like him ❤️
You really don't understand what it means to get 2 ufc belts and 100+ millions in your bank account... who's gonna be hungry for fights after that? But he loves to fight and I hope he will not stop any time soon
@@MikePasqqsaPekiM nah the money after he fought Floyd and his fame all over the world, having 200 million in your bank and not having trained MMA for a year just boxing changes you, he was never even 20% as motivated as he was before and was even too lazy to learn back his old stance and just developed a stiff boxing style in MMA through his year just training boxing for Floyd and getting used to it, its also probably not easy to motivate you to fight in the UFC anymore when you have like 200 million dollars in your bank and you´re already set for 20 luxurios lifetimes lol
Connor fighting Donald cerrone wasn't a highlight of his career. Unfortunately, people don't realize that Donald wasn't scheduled to fight. Connor at that time.
That second clip (same fight btw) when he knocked him out with that crisp precision just holy crap, that dodge was also as perfect as you can get it lol, no doubt he will always be the most well-known and renowned fighter to ever live
I respect what you're saying and yes it could happen. That's why I truly believe this is easily the best sport in the world. But I think Khabib wins 10 out of 10 with him.
@@chrislair6832 Khabib wouldnt beat the Conor that fought Eddie Alvarez in 2016 for his champ champ status, he was untouchable that night it was probably his best performance he probably had never trained as hard for a fight as he did for his champ champ fight and holy shit you could see it Conors performance that night was magical, this Conor that night beats any lightweight ever imo it was one of the most beautiful striking and counter striking performance against someone who was a great fighter and definitely not washed lol, not even 1 year later he was the first one to ever knockout Justin Gaethje in a fight he was also absolute world class but a Conor that motivated made him look like an amateur, I think that Conor beats every fucking Lightweight that has ever existed
So grateful I got to watch his run from Brimage on, and bet on The Mac every win. And that's coming from a Philly guy, who lived a mile from where Eddie The Underground King Alvarez was raised. In fact, THAT fight against Alvarez they closed off my block and the bars at each end served up a near riot while showing the fight on a screen that spread across the street. Needless to say, I had to bite my tongue when Conor won. I felt bad for the Alvarez fans, the block got as quiet as a funeral. Eddie is still a beast. Conor has apparently moved on beyond the ring now.
the second fight with nate was so funny kept knocking him down and nate was like “come here come on “ conor’s like “nah get ur ass back up “ lmao he fights better on feet anyway
He was on top of his game in the ring, and out of the ring. Connor knew how to build up a fight, a notorious fight, and drive the fans, the haters and the cheque books. 😎😎
