I saw that after the attack on the US base left dead three diverse soldiers. Now, I don't celebrate that tragedy. But it happened on a base I didnt know existed, in a country that has no meaning to do with me, on people who are not my own, who are fighting a war that is not my interest. A coward implies you are scared to fight, and outright choosing not to fight is a brave act when the cause is not just. I'm sure they called many Germans cowards and traitors who refused to fight in WW2, but I don't think anybody would call them that now.

@@MG-wk2eh Not quite true. The Royal Navy offered some chance of social advancement, but at high risk. There are examples of men being offered the choice of the gallows or the navy, picking the navy and doing well. Generally, chances for social climbing follow major disasters, e.g., wars, plagues, floods, earthquakes.

I am laughing my cock off at what is being spoken here. I’m a former SF guy, having done 22yrs service. And yet, I empathise with all that has been eloquently said. Our country (UK) has, been thrown to the dogs, by ALL political parties, for the last 40yrs, if not longer. Consecutive governments (all parties) have fully expected our Army, to perform it’s duty, to the best if it’s ability, on any war it has been required to find itself in, Falklands, Iraq, and they have always punched above their weight. If I were likely to be of an age of conscription now. I would also, tell them to fcuk off. Thankfully, I can now count myself as a lucky one. No longer able to serve. At the tender age if 72. Stay safe people.
How did the UK "punch above its weight" in the Falklands and Iraq? The UK had one of the strongest militaries during the Cold War and Argentina is and was a third world South American country sending poorly trained, poorly led unmotivated conscripted teenage boys wearing Yank GI gear from WW2. The UK sent well trained crack troops like Paras and Marines to face them in battles like Goose Green, etc, and of course had naval and air superiority. Not saying there's anything wrong with that, war isn't a sport that has to be fair, it's a nasty business, but this narrative about Britain being the underdog punching above its weight is just self-congratulatory wank. Iraq, even more absurd, depending on which phase of the war you mean (invasion + toppling Saddam, the result was a foregone conclucion, the ensuing counter-insurgency.. er, we didn't win). It was US-led anyway.

I've been trained as a combat arms soldier. I have fought in a war, not merely serving as a POG in one. I could get back into training shape in 1 1/2 months and fighting shape in 4. I have all the skills to help you wage war successfully in some of the harshest environments imaginable. The question is - Why? My country hates me and makes that abundantly clear every single day. You expect me to serve with the same zeal and esprit de corp that I did when my country appeared to actually care about me?

I think the Government's view of the public is that they can demoralize them into submission, which is why they seem to choose the stick a lot more than the carrot. They underestimate the motivating force of spite and resentment.

They were, however, active resistance and the one of few organized groups fighting against Islamic invaders and the government’s policies. They were pro Israel though and led by Tommy Robinson. They were also made up of working class “chavs”. Arguably who could’ve been good foot soldiers for the right dissident leader.

Some group keeps doxing him without getting arrested (it's alright when they do it, I suppose), even if they dox him with out-of-date information and ordinary people get mobs and hate mail because they live where he used to live.
The best bit is my friends who bought into the entire debacle around the covid are now telling me about how there is no way they're going to be persauded to join up!

It's easy to say you won't go throw yourself into combat when the governemnt tells you to, because everyone says that. And it was easy to take a vaccine at the behest of that same government when it was for the "greater good", even if it was new, rushed, and untested, because everyone did it. Many of these people lack the *principle* to do anything that isn't "easy" and what everyone else is doing. Sheep have their place, but not when you're up against the wolves.
Always felt the last few years were just a test to see how willing people were; for giving up the young, freedoms, etc. How easily, and who, could be bought off or manipulated, and monitoring the signals.

There was a reason conscription was abolished, if people had the choice between war and prison, you would see 20% of the UK’s population in jail, it’s impossible to enforce.
If you think that prison is the only other option, you haven't read many primary sources from the world wars. It's very easy to enforce if you have a large part of the population who is willing to turn their bayonets on you with state approval. Hmm I wonder who they might pick for that job, any large recent additions to the UK who resent most of the people already there?

National Service was abolished because it was expensive and the military didn't want or need it. They prefer people who actually want to be there. Fewer discipline issues. NCOs and Officers really don't want to be dealing with soldiers and conscripts who go AWOL, don't follow orders, etc. It also wasn't good for the economy to take out 18-year-old lads for 2 years to play soldier. It'd disrupt their apparenticeship/education. Back in those days especially, unless you were in the Royal Engineers, REME, etc, the Army didn't teach you anything useful for civilian life.

Some people I’ve spoken to feel a lot of this is just sensationalist nonsense and think there’s nothing more to it than that, but I’m not too sure… In a country like Britain and the state’s attitude towards us, this rhetoric was very unusual and I can’t help but feel a little perturbed that there may be more to it than just bluster. The fact they’ve done the same in other countries with the same sort of clique in power makes me think it wasn’t just the one-off ramblings of a handful of the establishment of one country, but something more substantial and deliberate… It would be interesting to know if other nations in mainland Europe have experienced this recently as well.

Of all the responses to the 'soundings' concerning the possibility of conscription, the one I found the most encouraging was from those who have learned the lessons of The Great War, well. Before they would allow ANY of their children to be conscripted, they would REQUIRE every child, of every sitting British politician, to be conscripted, FIRST! Also the children of the 'Officer Class' of His Globalist Majesty's Armed Forces.
