yeah, sorry this part is a little longer than it could be. We had a lot of trouble rendering part-1 and didn't have time to re-do this second part (but would have preferred to re-do it tbh)

Love that sidechain input on the gate, it could be a really nice creative tool to play around with on different sounds... this box overall seems like a bit of a revolution for in the box mixing...

Not yet, but that is the direction I am heading to. Gearslutz? Not really. But your point is well taken and duly noted. Thanks again for your response. Your input has helped me to head in the "right" direction! :)

I had this on order but I decided to go the icon pro x. it will be here in a few days. I like the use of motorized faders for the true console feel. I have all the UAD plugins but I may add this later.

Thanks for your very very good, clear, nice and softly explanation of Console 1. If you have some more tips & tricks like your bus solo solution within logicProX , it would be fantastic! Just to forget about the non full integration of Console 1 with Logic.Your demo already shows us that we can manage to work in logic with C1 even if it's not as full integrated than with Studio one for example. So if you have more videos, links would be much appreciated Thanks again Yani

The filter to compressor....is for use as a De esser...... You use the filters in normal mode to sweep to and isolate the 'silibance' in the vocal then switch it to 'filter to compressor' to de-ess the sibilance of the vocal
@dancetech
@dancetech 8 лет назад
+Bloom Music it's used for what is known as 'frequency conscious compression', ONE use of which is de-essing.
@bloom6124
@bloom6124 8 лет назад
Of course.... but is is the most frequent use of this feature and you never mentioned it :)
@bloom6124
@bloom6124 8 лет назад
Did you buy it in the end? I'm seriously looking into getting one.
@dancetech
@dancetech 8 лет назад
+Bloom Music yes i did buy it - I recorded & mixed some songs on it yesterday & last week actually, very easy to get a sound. Tbh cos the band was very pushed for time, so i simply rolled off the bottom end on most tracks, added gentle (2:1 - 3:1) compression to each, added a little punch to a few tracks, and set them all to setting 5 for the drive - then added a final console 1 to the master L/R out and added compression & drive to that... it pretty much mixed itself tbh .

Had this unit for a year now and bought some extra console emulations (American and British). I'd like some more presets for the American and British, they almost have none at all. Presets are great for getting started with the differences with the console types. I've read that using too much on an API console (American class A) and you will quickly melt the mix down, which is bad... So you'd use the different consoles a bit differently since on an SSL you can add quite a bit without melting down the mix into lots of unbareable distortion... They don't just sound differently, they are in some ways used differently too when it comes to their respective EQ's, compressors, etc. So more presets would make us beginners/amateurs getting faster into the ball game of these different type of consoles. Right now I favor the SSL4kE and American class, struggling a bit with the British one (Neve) to try to make it sound good aswell.

Again Great Video. My only (and I mean only) gripe is as you say at 17:14 soloing a bussed group. I thought I was missing a trick but clearly not. I am currently recording an album with lots of vocal harmonies and just want to solo the group channel. I'm not prepared to go back to my mouse for this (I rarely do these days) so I group the vocal channels in console 1 & solo then work on the group bus channel if I need to for EQ etc. Hope softube come up with a fix for this but I doubt it as its kind of the way the the whole thing works I guess. Right off to post links to your videos on Softubes Facebook pages, great work.
@dancetech
@dancetech 8 лет назад
+Stuart Demmery cheers mate :) - i don't think this is 'fixable' because how can a plugin know the routing of channels in the host DAW?
@williamhtrice
@williamhtrice 8 лет назад
+dancetech I can think of two possible ways: 1) The user could tell the Console 1 application about channel routing. 2) The Console 1 plugin instances could each emit an identifiable signal in turn and listen to see which other instances hear the signal (thus deducing that they are downstream of the emitting instance). By iteratively doing this, Console 1 could build a picture of the entire channel routing of a session (probably in a split second). The only downside would be some audible noise whilst it does it, but this could probably be all done in the least significant bit (so right down in the noise floor of the digital signal and most likely in fact inaudible). P.S. Many thanks for your videos! Brilliant run through of how Console 1 works and its ins and outs.

Great! Thank you for your time to offer a reply. I have just two other questions (if I may ask,) somewhat related, somewhat not. I hope you can answer, as it's really hard for the average "Joe Musician" to get in front of this stuff and spend some time... 1.) If I were to go with the Nucleus, along with SSL's Sigma Delta ll for summing would there be a significant gain in tactical control and/or sound quality? 2.) I see a lot of musicians/engineers that fall into one of the two camps of preference of sound (similar to people who prefer either Dunkin' Donuts or Starbucks,) of either SSL or Neve. Have you had such experience between the two and if so, what is the difference in terms of each ones "sound"?
@dancetech
@dancetech 7 лет назад
1. are you releasing high end commercial product? i'm not one of those people who thinks summing is massively important, the track/song/arrangement/production to me is far more important. Have you spent too much time on gearslutz by any chance? ;) in all all seriousness my question is: is it worth it? it's a lot of money. 2. ssl is more tight/clean but can be gritty, neve is warmer sweeter 'phatter' i suppose you could say

How would this product compare to something like SSL's Nucleus 2? Obviously the Nucleus is by far more expensive. But are they one in the same, or would it be comparing an apple to an orange? BTW - Great job on your reviews!
@dancetech
@dancetech 7 лет назад
they're fairly similar but very different. the SSL's Nucleus 2 is a controller with pre-amps, and the SSL channel/bus emulation is provided via SSL Duende Native plugins. So the Nucleus 2 is similar in that it is partly a controller controlling SSL plugins.
@imBQL
@imBQL 5 лет назад
Does it have the same ssl emulation as the one that ssl promotes in gobbler?

What is new with the MKII? Is it possible to have the graphic interface on a second monitor? I read alot from 2015 that larger track coints are trouble when having to chase the correct track. Did Softube ever solve some kind of Follow or similar?
@dancetech
@dancetech 5 лет назад
I haven't kept up with any updates tbh, but with some DAW's it automatically selects the correct console-1 track to match the DAW track you select, but on other DAW's you must manually select the track on the console-1 & that still sadly means Logic does NOT have full integration in that way (which is apple's fault i'd assume).

does anyone have any experience using Console 1 with Pro Tools 12? The system requirements say Pro tools 10 and higher, but I'm always skeptical of compatibility issues

Hello again, can you please explain the +Db (+ threshold) compression option...? When do you need/use it? Cheers, M
@dancetech
@dancetech 8 лет назад
the console 1 offers - & + dB threshold, all you need to worry about is setting it to match the material and how much compression you want on the signal, just the peaks or more of the average level

I have been trying to find an answer to this: If I were to have more than just one instance of the plugin in one channel (as for example, if I want to use serial compressors) how can you select them individually from the hardware console? Thanks again.
@kipling1957
@kipling1957 8 лет назад
+kipling1957 To answer my own question (I think). The confusion lies in naming schemes: What the Console 1 hardware calls a track and what the DAW calls a track is different. The track on the C1 hardware is an instance of the C1 plugin. If you have more than one plugin on the same DAW audio track, each instance will show up as a separate "track" on the C1 hardware that you can then step through. Anyway, I have ordered this piece of kit, so I'm soon going to find out .
@dancetech
@dancetech 8 лет назад
+kipling1957 i just tried it, it doesnt work that way. if you add two console 1 instances to a channel then the on screen displays flashes between the first channel & the channel with multiple inserted instance.
@dancetech
@dancetech 8 лет назад
+kipling1957 .... but what you could do is havew one instance of C1 on the actual channel & then send that to an aux bus and have a second instance on the bus... that'd work
@dancetech
@dancetech 8 лет назад
+kipling1957 lol.... well no, in hardware you can stack as many comps in series as you like on a channel... if you were mental enough to do that.. :) but the bus fix will do the job in s/w form i suppose.
@kipling1957
@kipling1957 8 лет назад
+dancetech Yes - via a send/return loop I guess. Well, what do I know, having never been near such real devices. I'll take your word on that. I can see how having had the experience of working with the hardware would build a better intuitive understanding of how these things relate to the software. That's unlikely now in my lifetime (approaching retirement), but I'm certainly looking forward to getting the C1. Thanks again.

We already use both, but use the PC as the main machine because it has more balls than the Mac. If this is an issue only arising with Pc's then fine, I'll only use the Console 1 on the Mac. What I wanted to know, is this just a PC issue, not which computer should I use thanks....!
