I like how the genesis version of this game made Daria provide a hint to the player like she does in the show and not just a background object like the SNES version.
Beavis and Butthead just feels like it fits better on Genesis. Genesis was the edgy console with a sound chip that sounded like it was built to play heavy metal. Perfect match if you ask me.
***** just because une game have better music on genesis doesn't mean that genesis have better sound, if the game was first developed thinking on the genesis hadware of course the sound and graphics will be better on the genesis.
I thought the Sega version was the best version of this game. It had an old-school feel with the graphics and music. They were both pretty frustrating in 2-player mode. The cool thing about the 16-bit era was that the games were sometimes totally different just like this game. That was probably my favorite era of video games.
The Genesis version was definitely better. The Super Nintendo version was merely another platformer, only Beavis & Butthead themed. The Genesis version was very quest-like and had a lot of elements that made it play like a Maniac Mansion-style Adventure game, and was very much like a Sierra game along the lines of King's Quest and Space Quest. It was a lot more involved and made you think about where you had to go and what you had to bring with you. Platformers are fun, but quite a lot of them are unoriginal and just have you moving left-to-right, and sometimes moving left-to-right like a zombie becomes monotonous. Also the Super Nintendo versions levels are way too long. Like, holy-shit-end-this-madness long.
When I was younger, Beavis and Butt-Head was one of my favorite games on Genesis, because it wasn't just, "go right to win." You could go around and look for things, and revisit areas. Look behind items in the background, like the hotdog behind burger world. It's a bit of a puzzle, but to me, it's not too different from Resident Evil in that aspect.. apart from it also obviously not being about zombies. The game allowed you to basically go where ever you wanted, with no set path on how to do any of it. And I still find the game playable today. I might forget a few things here and there, but it's not hard to look them up. Last time i played the game, I finished it in about 45 minutes. A short game, but fun, and has quite a bit of replayability. Especially with things like that I dont care or know password.
Uhhh, so, like, uhh... Did you guys know there was, like, a computer game of Beavis and Butthead? It was pretty cool! They, like, go around and stuff, and then, like, they meet Todd and get their asses kicked. Huh huh huh! It was cool! I think it was called "Virtual Stupidity", or something.
Any true gamer and fan of the show knows that the SNES version of this game was a complete waste of time. The Genesis version was genuinely fun and the SNES version was just thrown together. You could have replaced the sprites with anything and made a generic game whereas the Genesis version fell back on the show for content and comedic references. In the Genesis version, you strategically map out your items and weapons for your characters, requiring teamwork. Both games suck in single player but it's obvious that the developers geared the gameplay towards multiplayer. Play both from start to finish, with a friend who actually enjoyed the show. You will agree that the Genesis version is greatly superior.
Both games aren't all that good. I am pretty sure most would prefer the Genesis game though (especially fans of the show) Closer to the source material better music/graphics and somewhat unique gameplay.
I remember getting the Genesis version when I was little. I hated it at first, then it grew on me once I figured out its quirks. Just be sure to play it with a turbo controller, because it really helps the couch-fishing segment.

Genesis actually had cut scenes rather than the same ol picture in between levels, you had a machine gun in genesis version, the genesis version had 2 ways you could beat the game, either go in the front door of the show or fight your way backstage
I'm surprised you gave best sound to Super nintendo.Honestly, YM2612 (Sega's soundchip) is marvelous at putting up metal songs.SNES has better orchestrated music and this is not a story about Beavis and Butthead obviously.
So by your logic, SNES is better because it's more mindless? That's a bit daft... I've played both versions of the games, the SNES version is a relatively dull and generic platformer with the occasional change in gameplay as a distraction. The music, while more varied with instuments, just doesn't sound as nice, it's bad instrument choices again, just like Earthworm Jim that ruins a soundtrack that could have been decent. The genesis version however is an Action/Adventure game taking inspiration from the PC point and click games. Puzzles are hard, they require you to think outside the box or put the pieces together, experimentation is rewarded (finding out what can be pawned for money to buy better items and access to the Drive in level too) You genuinely feel like you did something when you figure something out. For example, using bombs you can blow up toilets (also regarding toilets, there's a clever hint "for bad food try butthead" which is a fantastic clue to get into burger world, likely where you'll get your first ticket) but you can also use the bomb in another area of the game, which you'll need to do in order to get a ticket piece, and then you find out Butthead's bat can break shopping carts in the Mall level for health. Just little things you can do make it feel all the more satisfying to the experience. There's also a moment where you have to steal a key whil you're getting a snake boxed, and you have to take it while this is happening, or the store clerk won't let you! The levels themselves are all varied in what type of gameplay there is. The Mall acts as a more traditional point and click adventure type level, with many places to see and collect items and clues. Burger World is pretty much the best area to start at, it's a small area with a simple mix the items puzzle, a weapon within seconds of entering and there's a bad burger which is required to access a secret area in the Hospital. The Hospital is another small area with that chase scene (which isn't even that hard with a little practice). The Neighborhood has a boss battle, a platforming section in the sewers and the dump and it's where you get a fishing rod where you can actually do Couch Fishing like in the show (and is required to get a ticket piece) You've got the Drive in which requires money to enter and a platforming based chase scene. And then you've got the Highschool which plays more like a smaller version of The Mall. Overall, the game just feels more fresh than Nintendo, you've got more variety in pretty much everything, plus there's some fantastic references to the show. Death doesn't matter too much honestly, if I recall, though I might be unsure on this one, it's possible to save in the password to where you got, so if you do die, all you need to do is go to the password screen and it should bring you back to where you left off. Also the format of the game means that you'll rarely die anyway unless you're bad at the platforming. Having either beavis or butthead dying trigger game over is in the spirit of the show, and playing single player lets you switch between beavis and butthead, essentially doubling your health. In the SNES version, you can easily be killed after being hit ONCE because the other player kept getting hurt. In the genesis version, if a player takes a lot of damage, it doesn't affect the other player, so co-operative strategy to keep each other alive means team work is more satisfying. Also, Genesis gives you infinite ammo on your weapon, as soon as you get the toy gun, you've got it for good, no need to switch back to farts and burps (well, apart from one or two puzzles) and while this can make the combat sections a little easy, they were already easy to begin with, it does however make the Mr Anderson bossfight much simpler (one could say, getting weapons adds to the puzzle element) Overall, I think the genesis version is just an overall better game everywhere, the gameplay is never boring, it's challenging but not unfairly difficult, the soundtrack is ace (I love the PAL version's speed of the burger world music, sounds so mellow) and just overall captures the spirit of the show much better. Oh yeah, and did I mention that the Genesis version has an extra ending? I won't spoil it, but if you can figure out how to do it you deserve it :)
I still can't think of a cool name So by that logic the NES version of Dick Tracy would be better than the Mega Drive version simply because in the NES version you're playing more like a detective, and that is just all kinds of wrong. The NES version of that game was pretty poor, the Mega Drive version decided to go for a side-scrolling shooter game, and ended up being more fun overall as a result. Also happens to be one of my favourite licensed games on the console. Beavis and Butthead is a similar case. The SNES version is a poorly made, messy platformer game, shared lifebar is awful and being extremely repetitive. The Mega Drive version isn't everyone's cup of tea, playing more like a classic PC adventure title, but it actually has something the SNES version lacks. Care and attention. The Mega Drive version tries to put you in the shoes of the characters and lets you explore their universe, there's also a plot that's actually GOOD, Mr Anderson tears up their GWAR tickets and now it's their job to get all the pieces back. In the SNES version the story is literally "let's go do some cool stuff" which in comparison is weaksauce. Regardless of whether you like the gameplay of the Mega Drive version's gameplay or not, there's way more care and attention put into it, even down to the soundtrack, taking good advantage of the soundchip to give a really grungy, 90s metal feel.

Like many people here, I think the Genesis version is better. I think the grittier soundtrack is a PERFECT fit for the show, the graphics are better for larger and more "animated" sprites, and the gameplay feels more fleshed out. Plus, not only does the gameplay feel more true to the show, it feels like a love letter for the fans, with plenty of references from the show integrated into gameplay.
wrong nintendo has better graphics because bright colorful crisp characters that make sense and it has much better gameplay of tigher cintrolls has a lot wrighty and no hard puzzle elements and this is sega genesis really falls appart trying to get 1 gwar piece really slows the game down so if you want to beat this game write password or even game genie code

Hey! The imposibble to solve puzzles were the things that made the Sega game legendary! I still remember being amazed for the thing you could do. That kind of games were not common in 16 bit consoles. The only 2 I ever knew on the Genesis were this one and Pacman 2.
5:45 why aren't they on stage rocking out? can beaves and butthead be controlled in the SNES ending? I only had the Gen version when young and remember being able to move them back and forth while they are on stage.

You see, this one has actually a lot of differences between the Sega and Nintendo versions, and just like the genesis one, both have their own fans. I would love to see your opinions on that game! :D (personally I think that EJ1 is better on the genesis and EJ2 is better on the SNES)
Nice episode guys. You do know that the Genesis had a second ending where you could get on stage with GWAR. You could also interact with it and watch B&B attempt to stage dive. I had the Sega version and if you ever get a chance check out Virtual Stupidity on DOS
Yeah. My friend and I beat it the first time, using the machine-dart gun advance method. We went into the concert and both of us immediately wondered if you could go around and get backstage. It didn't take long before we were back at it, beating it a second time and sure enough, we got backstage! Good times.

Nintendo was like the arcade version of beavis and butthead, and the Sega version was more of a strategy game. Both awesome, but not comparable in my opinion

My neighbor and I both got this game one year, I had the SNES, and he had the genesis. We played through them both... The genesis version always seemed to have the edge back then. This video makes me want to play through them again though...

Hey, Console Wars, I found the Mega Drive version interesting, because like most puzzle style adventure games, the gameplay itself isn't that difficult; the difficulty lies in figuring out what to use all of your tools/items for.

Wow, I don't I've ever seen a whole episode of the original "Beavis and Butt-Head", I think I only caught one episode of the revival. Anyway both Dan's and Jose's "Butt-Head" impressions were spot on, as was Rick's "Beavis".
Dude there's no way the SNES version sounds better. The Genesis sound chip was MADE for the style music found in Beavis and Butthead, and the voices sound more true to the show. The SNES version sounds too cutesy.
Well after checking out the comments I'm glad I'm not the only one who liked the Genesis version better!! Gameplay I do understand the whole too much thinking in a Beavis and Butthead game but you forgot the variety of levels!! The streets burger world highland highschool the turbo mall gwar concert I forgot the other level but you also go couch fishing inside Beavis and Buttheads house!!! The sound was high quality on SNES but I still like the Genesis soundtracks better!! Maybe not the voice overs but definitely the music!! By the looks of this video sounds like you prefer the Genesis music too lol!! I got bored after the first level on the SNES game but I've beaten the Sega game both ways to get the original ending and alternate ending!! Just recently started watching you guys and I love you guys!! I think I'm already subscribed but if not ill go do that quick!! Hope Greg makes a return but Pat's cool too!! For the Sega version on Presentation you forget to mention that you can control the beavis and butthead laugh using the control pad.. adding to the presentation factor. Point - Sega
There is just no fucking way SNES won this. I honestly have no choice but to refuse on this. How is it that they have won sound, music, and gameplay?! The Genesis has way better sound with everything. And gameplay? Is a boring, dull, mindless platformer better than a challenging. fun, and actually cooperative game. 2 player with SNES is torture. At least share a health bar. I can't believe you guys actually didn't mind that flaw by a lot. As a Beavis and Butt-Head fan, I hated what I saw on SNES. And to be honest, I wanted it to be better than the Genesis version, but I could not find ways to find it good. What Genesis did was make the player(s) feel like they were playing more like Beavis and Butt-Head themselves doing silly things to get their tickets back. Like taking that scooter in the Hospital stage, having a battle with Mr. Anderson, or hell, pick up a fucking rat and putting it into the food to get that man his service. You know, like the type of wacky things the real Beavis and Butt-Head would do. Sure, both games have a plot, but Genesis executes it so much better. SNES could have done much more than a mindless platformer. Is that why you both think it won? Because it was mindless? My opinion as always, so good video.
Twisted Grimm This man speaks the truth. Playing co-op with my sister on the genesis game, with no internet, was one of the most enjoyable co-op games I've ever played. If you actually explored you found out what to do, and while challenging the game was never annoying to the point of unplayablility, in fact the cyrpticness and challenge sets the genesis version apart really well as an identity and intrigue for wanting to play it. And dear god, there was a lot of passwords written down in that instruction booklet and then some. SNES just gives you a brainless, safe platformer with no individuality, Genesis gives you personality and attitude creating a much more unique and enjoyable experience.
5:12 That is not the only additional scene that is shown before the game over screen. I know this video was from 2014 but the woman in the parking lot and the bouncer in the Gwar concert also triggers a additional scene before the game over. Though if you get the bouncer prepare to laugh your butt off.
I was a huge B&B fan and a Nintendo Fan Boy back then. I was jealous of the Genesis Beavis & Butthead game because it looked like much more fun. More like Maniac Mansion or something.
5:02 That dude looks a lot like Hank Hill. Which makes sense considering Beavis & Butt-Head and King of the Hill were both Mike Judge shows. Never played either of these games, but an old friend of mine was really into them because he was a huge GWAR fan, and the main objective in both games is to go to a GWAR concert.
I've played the one on the GameBoy. It was actually quite fun. I like the music in the Genesis version a bit better by the way. The quality may not be that good, but some of the tunes sound damn jazzy.
