That "hysterically blue" finish is bloody impossible, and he just knocks them out time after time. No matter how much I polish, how obsessively I clean and how careful I am with the temperature it NEVER turns out that well.
@@andersjjensen The blue color comes from the thickness of the oxide layer so I doubt cleaning and polishing has much to do with the color. Though you definitely have to polish first because the oxide layer is only nanometers thick so polishing would destroy it.
It is a replica of the second oldest geared time telling mechanism know. It can tell the local time of 16 different locations in the ancient world, along with zodiac information and lunar cycle information.
My mouth literally hangs open while watching each and every one of your videos.... The attention to details ("useless" details) is so awesome! You dont need to do all that extra finishing etc, but the fact that you do it anyway is what makes this so special. I freaked out while you were making those screws at the end...What the actual f*ck! WOW!!!!!
When the real life product looks exactly like the CAD.. you know Chris is the one machining it. Gorgeous, can’t say enough good things about your videos. To settle down at the end of the day to watch a new Clickspring video is bliss.
I honestly can't think of any other RU-vid channel that brings a simple feeling of joy at the first "G'day, Chris here" and then such longing for more content at the "thanks for watching, I'll see ya later" - just ... magical!
I will never understand what he is making. Even if you spent all day trying to explain it to me. So I choose to think it's a magic machine. I watch for the enjoyment of the incredible machining. That, and the production of the videos is perfections.
Until recently, I would have said that your work is absolutely second to none. However, in recent weeks I have realizes that there is a significant lack of pigeons and whimsy in your work. Beyond that though, still second to none. Amazing as always.
It’s amazing how you do this all backwards and upside down because of the southern hemisphere. I couldn’t imagine plans from Terra Australia is have to upright then and follow the directions normally. You’re the best. Brilliant.
Yes, it's tough here in Oz, hanging upside down, scared we're going to fall off the earth into the heavens, falling forever, toilets swirling in the wrong direction when we flush, it's a wonder we aren't all nervous wrecks .... 😁😁
@@kenmatheson5794 I remember a geography teacher that tricked us all asking “which hemisphere is most populated” and every answer was east or west but the answer was “north”. It is rather arbitrary. I’m sure I’d still clumsy drop whatever anywhere haha
This is a mechanical calendar - the circles of bare metal you saw when he turned the whole thing over are going to be marked with calendars and slowly rotate to show month, week, lunar phase, etc. The design is absolutely ancient, and deceptively simple - once you realise gears can do division and multiplication, you can make them count out any calendar you like.
Just a thakyou Chris. The ability to make pretty parts 'almost' everyone can do, more or less, but, when you flawlessly 'assemble' all those parts into a flawless working 'whole', my admiration kicks-in!! Cheers.🍻
I’m never going to do this, be able to do this, understand this, but wonderful to watch. I wouldn’t mind trying, but I know I would never have the patience for the months of work required.
HOW?! How can Chris possibly publish this kind of content so FREQUENTLY?! It’s not possible to progress this quickly WITHOUT mouth watering videography. That shop tour video was obvious trolling. Clearly there is a team of dozens of AI cyborgs and CGI involved.
This is one of the best channels on YT. Amazing attention to details, great craft, lovely to watch. I'm recommending your channel to all my male friends, Chris 😉
I always shake my head at the polish you put on the screws. Wouldn't the mirror finish be ruined the first time someone touches them with a screwdriver?
The work that you do is simply amazing. What type of polishing paste do you use to achieve such amazing results with the screw heads? Clock making at this scale is an art form and you are a master such as the likes of Da Vinci and Michael Angelo!
Chris, I'm a bit envious, lol. I'd give my left arm to be able to produce that eye-popping *deep* blue on e.g. a *presentation-grade* firearm that's properly hot-blued. Was never a fan of chemical cold-bluing, though I realize I'm tilting at windmills. I assume getting those surfaces mirror-smooth (and properly degreased) before the bluing plays a huge factor in the result, correct?
