This video shows the construction process of installing rebar and preparing the formwork for a concrete foundation wall. The crew is dealing with mud and water issues, and trying to figure out the best way to clean the footing and ensure a proper bond for the concrete. They are using an automatic rebar tier to speed up the process, and discussing challenges with the wall heights and suspended slab above. The crew is also getting advice from an engineer and communicating with various contractors to coordinate the work. Overall, the video demonstrates the complex problem-solving and coordination required in residential construction.

That was funny when you were talking about measurements in metric and imperial. Back in the early 90's when I ran my company in UK, we had a cross over period when all our materials were suddenly all metric. The big headache for us then was the older architects still submitted plans in feet and inches, and we had to convert the dimensions to suit metric. The brick and block course gauges were in millimetres, board stock was still classed as 8'x4' etc, but were 2.4 x 1.2 metres. We would go to order timber in say 14' lengths, but they would now call them metric 14's. We soon got used to converting in our heads, but it sure was easier when the whole system changed to all metric and all the drawings were metric too........ Great content though guys, its good to see we all have the same kind of problems to solve on site the world over. Thanks and keep making me laugh.

Guys that tape is used in the oilfield on drilling rigs. We drill oil and gas wells that are 10,000 ft or deeper. The pipes used for drilling and in the well are around 30 ft long. All the pieces we use to drill and build the well need to be measured so that we know the length of the drill and then we know the depth of the well. We use feet but to measure we use 1/10 of a foot. imagine adding the length of 200 pipes in ft and having length of 29 ft 3/8 in or 30 ft 6/8 of an inch. be hard to add up with a calculator . So we use a foot divided by 10 or 1/10th of a foot so a pipe length is reported as 30.45 ft or 29.98 ft that makes it easy to add them all up. It says on the cover "ON THE DRILLING RIG" and its called a BHA tape. Welcome to the oilfield. Keep up the show lovin it

Concrete /rebar beams are the answer. The beam can basicly go to the top of the slab if done right. You can have an underlying beam, where the beam starts under the slab. An overlaying beam, where it goes from bottom slab and it comes out off the top of the slab. or you can have and underlying beam where the rebar starts at the top of the slab, in simple form you are taking of the slab thickness from your beam heights.
@hifiandmtb
@hifiandmtb Месяц назад
Or a post-tension slab?
@DeCSSData
@DeCSSData Месяц назад
Thought of that too, but of course you wouldn't want a overlaying beam in the garage floor.
@rockfosg
@rockfosg Месяц назад
@@DeCSSData I just listed the 3 options, the last one with the beam starting on top of the slab/deck, and reducing the amount the beam drops under the slab is the best option, if viable. The discussion is about the ceiling height in their garage/basement livingroom. Not the garage floor 👍
@DeCSSData
@DeCSSData Месяц назад
@@rockfosg I sign that. And if it is on the verge with rebar and concrete you can also pour the slab around full steal beams so that their height or the most of their height lays in the slab and not below.
@rockfosg
@rockfosg Месяц назад
@@DeCSSData I'm talking no steel beam, just rebar and concrete.. But you could use a HSQ (looks like a hat) or a I-beam with a wider bottom plate, forgot it's short term. That can be cast into the slab/deck. Just leave room for rebar to go over the top of it. We do it all the time when using filigree decks, They are precast 2-3" thick elements with all the bottom rebar already in place, often with tension cables in them, that we lift in with a crane. Typical max dimension are around 8'x20'. Just need 2x6" and props to support it.

To maintain the structural integrity you could remove the dirt from the new pored perimeter and underpin it to give you the level you need. This should the most practical and quickest way to meet the owners requirements. There would be a requirement for the underpinning to be strong than the existing but it is worth the extra work. That would be the most cost effective and quickest solution. Still enjoying the channel and looking forward to solution and as ways, stay safe J.

i’ve used the auto rebar tying before…they are a lot faster but they do not tie very tight. also, wouldn’t use it for vertical bar. works great for flat work. pliers are going to get it much tighter.

Box footings are the best , you reuse the lumber in framing and don’t have a fight with water and mud , also the footing drain is well below the top of the slab .

Growing up in Australia 1970’s, we learnt both metric and imperial measurements at school. Didn’t know l needed it until working in my teens due to most sheets of ply coming to site being 8” x 4” lol

I would have thought that the "plans" would have been thought through and approved BEFORE y'all broke dirt on site? Really great video!

We could have waited for the plans to be completed, but we would’ve just been sitting around a whole extra month. We are better off just to get going and get the details as needed I think.
