ooh I had another tip... to get a really good size trolley, get a cheap baby's change trolley! masses of room, three shelves and wheels.!! I got a white one and my husband put wheels on the end that had none. it is marvellous for anything..washing, crafts, even kitchen perhaps.

I am always reorganizing my space! I feel like a dog trying to get comfortable going round and around to finally relax for his nap! I don't know why but "circling" my craft space renews my creative juices! Call me crazy if you want but it works ! I am not a super organized neat type person so this kind of perplexes me.

I have a small corner in my utility room (which we made when we made an extra bedroom and utility room out of our garage) for my crafting, have window ac, but no heat. Luckily I live in Florida. I do most of my crafting standing at my washer and dryer. It’s a better height for me rather than sitting which makes my back hurt. We make do with the space we have. Love all your videos Lindsey. Such helpful suggestions and hints.

@Suehuskins
@Suehuskins 4 года назад
Anne Ross I use to do the same but purchased the bed lifters -about $8 at Walmart and put under each leg of my table so it is raised a little. Also I cut pvc pipe and slipped it on the legs of fold-up tables, card tables etc to raise them for art shows. With pvc you can raise table higher depending on cut size, just make sure it’s safe and some tables won’t fit the pipes. I am still looking for a bigger bed riser base to fit another table i have with thicker legs. Hope this helps.

You might like the cart in the video to stack the projects you are working on a cutting board on top can make it a place to work on or to use as additional movable table for paints brushes etc. You can use magnetic locker boxes for pen and marker storage
@kristyreal
@kristyreal 4 года назад
@@Suehuskins great idea with the pvc pipe. Have you considered using the industrial kitchen sized cans of food from walmart? I buy diced tomatoes in those cans and then repackage them in quart baggies for the freezer. I can lay them flat and then freeze packets of the exact amount of tomatoes I typically use when I'm cooking (it happens to work out to 1.5 small cans - which is a pain). Turning the empty cans upside down under table legs might work for your purposes. They are very sturdy and free.

I love that you turned a corner of your basement into a functional work area. I admit, I am a little envious of the perfectly color coordinated and neatly contained craft room tours, but we don’t all have a budget for it. I also have a basement corner room, but it’s unfinished. So is my kitchen! But when we looked at this house, I immediately called it the craft room. The only finished room is my living/sleeping space. I will eventually finish the kitchen, and we will do all the wiring and lighting when we do phase 2 of the kitchen. In the meantime, craft on😁! I am currently organizing and setting up, but I love the tip about getting rid of empty containers. I am tripping over them, but still figuring out what is the best way to organize and contain, so I am keeping options open. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

You just opened my eyes to a different way to store my vinyl rolls. I had my husband build my cabinets 30 inches deep, and I have been struggling with handy vinyl storage. We bought pvc pipe to make storage compartments, but I couldn’t come up with an efficient to get to the vinyl in the back. Bins will be light weight and perfect. I guess I needed you to clear my thought path. Always enjoy your videos!

I save card board boxes, like aluminum foil roll box for washi tape, shoe box for glue sticks I bought too many of, sandwich bag boxes for ink refills that was given to me, or can’t get anymore. This way when those supplies are used and are gone, I can recycle the storage container into the recycle bin so I’m not paying money for storage. It’s disposable.

I made a rack to hold paper pads using wire bins that snap together. I zip tied five pieces into a cube, then zip tied more pieces inside to create shelves. The cover pages of paper pads usually have thumbnails of the prints inside, soI tear off the cover page, write the pad name on the spine, and put the cover page on a ring so I can flip through the pages instead of dragging out every pad and flipping through every page.

Tearing the covers off the paper pads and putting them on a key ring thingy. That is a great idea!! Thank you!! I really like those paper pads, 6 by 6 but they are all stacked up in a bin so a lot of the time I never think of using them. I m glad Lindsey said if anyone had any suggestions to post them otherwise I probably wouldn't have thought to read the comments. Thank you again! That is such a good idea.

I use plastic rain gutters for my rolls of ribbon. I have a few under my desk, where there is wall space and have a few rain gutters on the wall. They come in 10 ft and hubby cut them in half. They were only $6. I also use the boxes that come in the mail from buying supplies on eBay. I decorate the boxes with paper from my paper pad that I won’t use for cards and I add lace around the edges or a string of plastic pearls or bling.

Micheals sells storage boxes for scrapbooking. They are the right depth to store artist loft acrylics I have 2 for paints I for sewing projects and plan to get a couple more one for water colour paints and one for paper and card stock. I also use fishing tackle boxes to store paints and brushes. The soft sided tackle boxes with the pullout boxes work very well.

I do something similar with my storage cube cubbies! I've got the 12" fabric cubes, and inside I put the slightly smaller plastic bins from Dollar Tree. These plastic bins are about 10" and if I only put a few things in each plastic bin I can stack 2 bins inside one fabric cube. Makes it really easy to remove the top bin and access what's under it without having to tear everything apart!

This is somewhat related to the use of storage containers... I use a combination of Iris carts and wall shelves to store my stamps. I keep a notebook where I stamp an image of every stamp as I obtain it and jot down the stamp name, company and price. When I need to make a card I can look at the book to pick out the stamps and sentiments. BUT my problem is then trying to locate where I had stored it. So I am currently going thru each storage place locating the stamp and then writing next to the image where it is stored(such as Christmas drawer or large shelve row 3 5th from left), this is saving me so much time when I want to make a card since I can go directly to where the stamp is stored rather than spend hours/days/weeks/months looking for a stamp I know I have! Thanks for sharing your great tips.

I love drawers and containers! First I used shoe boxes because that's all I had - now I have some smaller plastic bins because I don't have space for those big ones;) but they are great! I have my acrylics in one, my paper scraps in another and I have cardstock in clear plastic packaging baggies sorted by color - that is great for die-cutting with kids - I just give them that plastic bin with cardstock scraps and they are good to go:). They know how to sort the scraps themselves so it's perfect:). I keep cardboard boxes from tea, chocolate,... cut them up and put them into an appropriate baggie. It makes really fun unusual patterns on die-cuts - we all love it - it's free and fun and unique.

For a cold area, try a quartz radiant heater. They do not heat the air; they heat things like tables, benches and you. I live in a cold climate and have family members that use them in their shops and garages and swear by them. You just plug the the unit in to a standard outlet. Reasonably priced too.

Try Sam’s club if you have one in your area. I bought several for my craft room. $26-28. One houses my die cutters. Gemini junior on top with big shot in middle. Then all the assorted extra plates in the bottom. I can move it close to the craft table then push it back out of way without lifting and lugging to a drawer or shelf and it keeps them off my work space when not in use. Another holds all the extra stamp tools blocks scissors pens on top with dies in bins on 2nd shelf and then bins with brads buttons sequins and other add ons. Planning to make my table about 6” higher so the carts can fit under. In my garage under a tall work bench former owner blessed me with, I have another cart that houses all the small electrical tools (drill sander jigsaw circ saw etc) and another houses screwdrivers, hammers, bins with nails and screws etc that I can roll to a project site in the house or elsewhere in the garage. The dollar tree locker bins fit perfectly side by side in my sams carts as well. Check out harbor freight for clear compartment bins (for storing various nails etc) to store craft items (threads, beads, buttons). I try to use same boxes for all craft supplies so they neatly stack. Also the round magnetic tins will stick to the sides of the cart for other things - I use for more office things like binder clips, paperclips. Or use any tin you may have with magnets added to make your own bins. Dollar tree sells the round tins fyi. //Love the new hair do! Take care!

I wonder if you put taller bins in a rolling cart so stuff wont tumble out and you can keep odd items contained. Stackable crates might work too. They are about $3 at walmart or target at back to school time. Just be sure to buy they from the same place if you want them to stack as brands differ.

I have an empty tray sort of container, ( from take out meal) on my table for small scraps that I can use for collage or embellishment making. When it gets full I rummage through it, toss in the trash half or more then repeat. I feel less guilty of tossing a scrap that I had the opportunity to use for a week or more but just didn't find the need. I do use a good deal of the scraps. Exception is..... When I know I am about to make some ATCs or a stack of Thank you cards, I let the container get pretty full and often use it up.

Having trays for in progress projects is genius. That would be so helpful. So is the big bins of storage containers, definitely guilty of letting empty containers clutter. The most helpful craft organizational thing I do is keep swatches of everything in one binder. Even if I have a swatch of my watercolors in the tin I also have one in my master swatch binder. The same goes for every media, stamps, dies, stencils, embossing folders, etc. I make sure they are actual die cuts, embossed paper, etc instead of just pictures like from the packaging. I get more inspiration and tend to use my things more often when I can flip through all my options. In the back of the binder I keep some note paper so I can write down project ideas that come to me. I always get good ideas when I have no time to do anything about them. :)

Thank you for all the storage and use what you have videos. I live in the country an hour+ away from any type of art supply store and even then all I have is Hobby Lobby and Tuesday Morning. Our UPS PO box is in the same town so mail orders are just as though to get. The nearest Ikea is two states away. My craft/homeschooling room is custom made by my husband for the most part. It's so nice to get ideas from other non-Ikea rooms because that's just not an option for me. I ride the thin line between keeping what I think I need on hand and being minimal/frugal enough to not have stockpiles I won't use. I get the impression you deal with the same. I love living remote enough that I can't see another house until the trees loose their leaves but I have to plan for everything including crafting because my husband and I run a Tech/IT business from our home and we aren't in town every day. There are many times when I run out of something or need a supply to finish a project but I have to wait four days until our errand day. :) I wouldn't have it any other way though. The community out here is so much more intimate than the one we had living closer to the city with neighbors all around.

I paint and stencil cardboard boxes, iPhone boxes, ect.. and have “like things” together in them on bookshelves and a cart. Years ago I saw someone on RU-vid use styrofoam for brush holders so I painted the sides of styrofoam and it works out great and looks pretty. Did I get that idea from you🤔? You’ve taught me to look at unconventional ideas for storage over the years. Love all your tips!

Thanks...good tips...esp the unruly box of stencils inside of the storage bin. Storage & org is always a challenge & I’m very space limited! So I’m always looking for space-saving ideas! 👍

I do enjoy your videos and think they're some of the best on RU-vid. One of my favourite storage items is a handbag organiser from IKEA. It's a lovely grey felt like material and I think it cost about £3 so super cheap. It has loads of space plus inner pockets to divide further. Currently storing gelatos, and my best pens & pencils in it. I like to get rid of packaging where I can as it just creates bulk when trying to store items. I keep my adhesive gems in A5 size clear wallets sorted by colour. If they come on long sheets I'll cut the sheet in half so they fit. It's also useful to cut sheets apart when you get a variety of colours so red stays with red, orange with orange etc. I hope this makes sense! I use washi tape in the coordinating colour to add a tab at the top of each wallet which serves as a label.

I want one of those carts! I just can't justify it. Yet :) I use cube storage for all kinds of things. The ones at Walmart are a wee bit sturdier and still not too expensive, so I buy those. My cats love them, too 😄

I try never to use round containers because I feel they waste a lot of space. I like squares and rectangles, and whenever I can repurpose an empty container I do. One thing I have found is that it's hard to find containers that have parallel sides. They all seem to slant so they are wider on top then at the bottom. That's great if you want to nest them to store them when they're empty, but I find it also wastes space. I like cardboard boxes and I like to cover them with fabric. I also repurposed a rubbing alcohol bottle by cutting it down, covering it with a fabric panel that I stamped with pigment ink and heat set it. I added a little bling, 2 coats of Mod Podge, filled it 2/3 full with dried lentils, and I have a perfect and weighted container to hold my blending brushes. I have as much fun creating storage and organizing as I do making greeting cards!

I like to store like with like and use the box in a box method to keep like items in various sizes together and findable. So my Christmas stamps all live in one big bin. Wood in one box. Cling in another and a third box for dies/die stamp sets. Added the third box after I acquired enough dies to overflow the second box. Three better, not so heavy. The only I do differently is I sort embellishments by color not type. My brain says I need something blue, not I need a button or sequins or glitter. So I sort by color.

I have the Ikea cubes on both walls and use the Target fabric bins. I put a 12x12 board in the bottom for extra support. It will hold a substantial amount of weight. I too have some boxes with storage containers Ü

I used to have all my glues in a shallow container, but they always fall against each other and wind up rolling around on the bottom. I bought a lazy susan yrs ago at IKEA, and now all my glues are sitting atop it, readily accessible. Thanks for all your great ideas.

I spotted a new rolling art at Micheals. It’s oblong and would fit at least two storage cubes per layer you could cover the top layer with a wood shelf of the right length plenty of depth the brand name is Hampton

I am currently reorganizing my creative space and I have what I call “container mountain” as I agree that it does help when reorganizing to take those empty containers out! I don’t want to get rid of them all in the end so I like your idea of keeping my favorites in a big bin. Helpful tips too for using my soft cubes! I love my basement space too as it’s a walkout and I live in a rural area in NH. The scenery is great! The temperature, not so great right now. TFS!
