Well everyone it was a busy first week and a half out on the ship, but I managed to make some footage and I am working on more as well which I will post when back in USA in 3 more weeks so stay tuned. Everything is going well so far and tonight we will be off to Europe. This is some footage from my first week back on the ship and I will also post a short video I made of my room because so so many asked to see what a room on the ship looks like so I made it if you are interested. It is just like a 5 minutes video. I will see you all in about 3 weeks when I am back in USA with more footage so until then take care and enjoy....

In Vlog 22, you welded some new angle iron in the shop to a grating that had rusted. Before welding, you used a grinder to grind away primer paint that comes already sprayed on the angle iron. That primer paint is sprayed on the angle so that it doesn't rust in transit or when stowed on deck. On my ship, we'd get angle, flat bar and channel iron treated the same way. But one of the best features of that primer paint is that it can be welded through. Unlike any other kind of primer/paint, it is electrically conductive to allow an arc to be struck and welded. We started seeing that primer in at least the mid 2000's if not sooner. Try it for yourself or check with your supplier. It's nice to just cut a piece and then start welding. Wished I was still out there, retired. Good Luck.

I am an ex fitter from Rolls Royce Aero Engines. The all round skills in the video are good. It also looks as though you are left to your own devices over the jobs that you do which is good also rather than a supervisor coming along and saying "Hows the job going" continuously.

Can hardly wait to see the new LED lights installed. As I think about your job and if I would like doing it, I worry as to if I would feel trapped on board. But then I see you walking everywhere to get things done and then it seems to be a big place. Thanks for a great Vlog.

JB. Your efforts and hard work educate us to understand and appreciate how things work at sea. We take for granted just how goods come to us and really never consider the sacrifice people make. You are giving us a window to a world that normally we would never look through while taking us to a place that we could never be. Kudos to you and keep doing what you do.

I’ve been to San Diego, my brother asked me what I wanted to do, I said see Port of LA! I love watching big ships. Watched video abt raising/removing Costa Concordia. Tragic. Look into Maritime Academies if you want to become a ship officer or you can apply to unions for unlicensed deck/engineer work
@jefferyb.3406
@jefferyb.3406 5 лет назад
Well there are plenty of training schools and academies and also you would have to get the required documents for sailing which you can easily go online and search and in the video I posted about picking up my shipping papers which was a couple of videos ago I also talk about the required documents in that video and also you need to become a member of one of the unions that provides staff for the ships when I am back home and vacation I would be more than happy to help you even more my email is posted in the information section on this channel feel free to contact me

how's the food?
@jefferyb.3406

Generally on ships the food depends on who the cook is and at the moment we are fortunate to have a good cook so everything is pretty decent

We don't really need it unless we are in Port there's nothing above our heads when were sailing that will cause any problem and actually at my height when I wear it I end up hitting my head on more things because it makes me taller

I know what you mean by no filming on the lot. These days, there is WAY too much trouble. I know it would have been pretty educational but these days, in some war torn countries and too many troublemakers having access to the Internet, the stuff you share could fall into the wrong hands. Some places not only bans photography and filming but they even want you to keep that info top secret. Although we as taxpayers feel that the rule of keeping as much stuff secret as possible may sound stupid but to be safe, you have to follow the rules. Either that or risk going to jail.

Do you have more international with the captain and other officers durning the dinner or entertainment areas? I always wondered how the captain and chief engineer live in big commercial ships such as living quarters (suite), private swimming pool (if they have such perk). I know it is not a cruise ship but these are still high ranking officers and stay in those ships longer than those commanding cruise lines.
