Totally educational, well done! You are doing a great job showing how ships and ports operate. I’m learning so much from you as I always had so many questions and wondered how the industry operated. Showing the port operations would be good too. Thank you 😊
Used to work at USMMA Kings Point, NY. I was an Assistant ATR and used to cut orders for our cadets to join the Maersk Ships during their sea year. The Maersk Montana was one of those ships. So glad to see the video and get the experience of what our cadets, deck and engine, actually trained for. Very interesting videos. Thank you for posting.
Yeah? pretty cool! my grandfather, Scalcione was an instructor at the USMMA Kings Point, I found pictures of him in several of the "Midships" yearbooks, 1961, 1957 and many others.
I used to work on the COSCO SHIPPING container ship on your cover, and now I work as a shipping agent at my hometown and last weekend I just finish my first vessel as an agent ,her name is MADRID MAERSK TRIPLE-E CLASS
Stumbled upon your Chanel by chance... Very interesting.. very well put together... Great to see things you know nothing about..be watching more for sure...
The automated loading & unloading was cool however it makes me think of the jobs lost. It also makes me think of the future and the thousands of other jobs to be lost due to the advance of technology. ....Just great videos. Keep em' coming ✔️
It's coming, every vehicle on the road will be potentially capable of autonomous driving in a few years. ''Potentially'' if it has the right tech built in, and it will get to a point very quickly where those vehicles are much safer than human drivers ... when that happens that will be the end of human drivers. All the people who work as drivers are on borrowed time now.
What a fantastic video. Educational and entertaining. The automated terminal in Rotterdam was very impressive. Your video camera picture quality is excellent. A real pleasure to watch. Thanks! I've subscribed to your channel. Cheers.
Well I really appreciate your kind words and encouragement and I have a brand new $300 gimbal to put on my camera so the footage will even be better in upcoming videos thank you very much for watching and hopefully I can make some content very soon that you will also enjoy again thank you again very very much
Amazing video. I did not realize the English shores show such calm waters and picturesque sunsets. I lived for 4 years in the seaport town of Liverpool UK, studying Engineering. That was ages ago. I would often pay visits to berthed ships and request a tour of the engine room. Crew were always pleased to oblige. Port security in those days as I remember was non existent
Yes many times we have sailed past the southern tip of England and it was beautiful and calm waters and amazing sunsets....Thanks for your reply and story....
Cranes at APM2 terminal are automated, but overlooked and corrected by a crane-operator in a building. APM is a Mearsk daughter company. And going to Antwerp you said this Belgium: that's Holland; Belgium starts about the nuclear power plant. This is meant as an amplification not as criticism. I love your vids.
Man, you're an awesome guy ! That was a clickable link in your reply comment right to here. All I can say is WOW !! Un Freaking Real !!! Somewhat scary real if you think about it. What most people have no idea about and could care less as long as they get their stuff, lol. Like the way you say "Little Robots", ha, ha. In my opinion there is nothing "little" about any of that. Thanks much brother and may blessings be with you.
No problem at all my friend I'm just really glad but you enjoy it and I will definitely try to make some more video like that so you can see more and I'm sure a lot of other people would enjoy it as well
Another great video, loved the automated port but its also kind of sad that it also represents job loss. Are the wheel house and bridge the same thing? By moving your clocks daily in Europe do you lose track of days, time and schedules?
On my ship we go to Europe so 6 hour time difference.....We basically move clocks daily until proper time is reached for our next destination and YES it makes it tiring. So going to Europe from USA we move clocks ahead making bed time come 1 hour sooner but on way home we get more rest. Eating does not seem to change at all though.....
They are both used as the main fuel for the engine however when close to land about 150 miles we go to the low for environmental regulations.... Eco Zone we call it.....It is required...
HI! You have very quality documentary videos about your job and lifestyle. I study engineering right now and ill have guestion. Do you have many APM ports in US. like Roterdam port is.? PS. I'M learning much your maitenance videous. ✔ Onsku from Finland
How much lube oil was taken on. Read a NTSB report of a vessel having its main engine shut down account low lube oil. Crankcase only had 2700 gallons of lube oil at the time of shut down.
+under 300 sorry some people did mention when I was editing the video I'm going by my audio on what I'm listening to but some people say they listen on other devices and it sounds different so a lot of the videos I don't even put music in but thanks for the tip.
Matt and Jeff oh, ok. That’s a very fascinating career you have. Being visually impaired (not blind) I have struggled in my adult life at finding my place for employment. I refuse to live off Uncle Sam. I have recently looked at working on a cargo ship. Seeing this beautiful world sounds like a great experience!
Twin 40 ‘ with no crane driver & robots on the dock and people wonder why there are no high paying jobs anymore, good union jobs sent down the river for more profits for the wealthy shipowners , I worked on the docks for 43 years and drove crane for 15 of those, I’m ashamed of what the world has to look forward two, by the way robot ships are being designed as we speak ... Other then that your videos are very interesting and keep them coming ...
It is good to see the non human element and no cargo being 'accidentally broken open' and cargo 'disappearing' like in the old days! The worst thieves in the world are longshoremen and teamsters! Pilferage must be to a minimum these days!! Excellent... Too bad you didn't get some time off in The Dam.
I just got a little footage of a huge EEE container ship leaving the port in Rotterdam, Holland I will have to put the video together and post it soon when back in USA and Matthew can post it
You are right and at the end of it all it is slower too. They care less about people.....I am not sure if it was in this video but one I was filming as the crane lowered a hatch cover and so so slow compared to a manned crane. Seems like the world is ran by greedy people who care less about their common man....sad
Great videos. Also another example of how automation and technology is killing off jobs. Huge ships, as the ships get larger the crews get smaller and smaller. The ports are all containers and gantry cranes ad a few yard spotters putting the containers on trucks frames. The fueling barge also is highly automated, I didn't even see a human on the deck when offloading bunker to the Montana. The trains that bring these containers to port are sometimes 2 miles long with a crew of 2, there is no caboose. Woin't be long until perhaps the crew of a container stack train is 1, and then none. The locomotives that move the containers to port are much bigger as well, requiring less locomotives to be built and maintained by humans. Truck containers went from 40 then 45, then 48'. Regular truck trailers are now 53'. Pipe lines create a giant sucking sound in the jobs they take as well. People only think of technology taking the lower waged worker job at the fast food or retail place away. They forget the loss of industrialized jobs and in transport/logistics is staggering.
yeh ... terminals delta E ... delta W ... well known .... even phone calls by cards from fixed wall phones are not anymore allowed, due to ISPS policies for permission of access ... expanding ... expanding ... they will unload with 12-15 integrated spreaders at a time if it could be possible ... less and less for humans ...
Why do these videos have the annoying music with the level much higher than the voice audio? Why not call it a music video so that folks who aren't interested in pointless music can skip it? Also these tracks are the same wallpaper tracks used by other videos so these aren't even original. What does a ship have to do with dance club style music?
