In this video I will be going over the things I like and dont like about the Contax T point and shoot camera and giving my long term review conclusion on this camera. I take the camera out for a spin share the shots that I took.

The Contax T is hard to find in decent condition. That's mainly because when new, it was priced every bit as much as the later T2, at a time when paying as much for a pocket camera as for a top-line SLR was just not popular. Relatively few were ever sold. The way the rangefinder system work precludes his concern that its accuracy will wear out with use. It might go out of adjustment and have to be reset, but that's a minor repair any tech can do. Lack of major repair parts leading to shelving the camera is as sadly true for the T as for most other film cameras these days.

I'm a technician that fixes these units. Every Contax T unit that has issues, has typically experienced a trauma of some type. 80% of the time it's due to a shock or impact (ALWAYS use the wrist-strap !). The rest of the time, because they're not weatherized, dust or liquid contamination. Treat them kindly; a low mileage, cared for unit (Mint) NEVER has issues (I own four of them)...

I like the top shutter speed of 1/500 of a second. You can take a perfect picture of a bullet before it hits you. Everything else is a good report. I have mine since ~ 1982.

It's a too fragile camera. I had two working, and I still have two non working. I have opened these cameras for repairs, and I then understood they cannot last very long even when normally used.

Definitely agree with you on that camera and its lens. T over T2, manual focus over AF makes for a much more discreet and intimate photographic experience. 👍

Great video, this is definitely the pocket camera I'd choose if I had the money. I use the Olympus XA, absolutely love the rangefinder, the only thing that lets it down is the lens quality, which this T addresses. Good choice of camera!

Good video. I think you're perhaps a little hard on its durability although I'd agree loading is a pain. I have to sit down and concentrate to load it correctly. I'd rather trust the manual door opening , focusing and advance over the electronic nature of the T2 etc. The lens blows any other P&S out the water and is unto the best SLR standards

I just got mine a month ago, excited to see the results. But one thing I noticed is that the flash wouldn’t fire when using the self-timer mode. Could you confirm whether it’s the same for you? I can’t find any info online.

Looks great. I'd really like one of these. Definitely closer to affordable than the T2, but still.....cheapest I've found is £300 posted. Still feels like too much for a point and shoot......thoughts?

In fairness, it's not a point and shoot - it's most definitely a rangefinder with some point and shoot capability, since the shutter speed readout gives you an element of control over it, even if it is in only three or four steps

Anyone know the minimum shutter speed? Deciding between one of these and an XA which has 10 second auto exposure. Great video!

Help! I have my dads Contax T camera, i’ve been using it now for the third time and everything worked fine until one moment i went to take a photo and there was no number of photos i’ve taken so far. I don’t know if that means it’s not working anymore?

mine sometimes does the same, I just open and close it a couple of times and it seems to fix it :)

Can't speak to the T3 as I haven't used one but I think it is much the same as the T2. The T2 has a manually set focus, so zone focus is available. Compared to the T however, the T2 cycles the focus position every time you take a shot, even if you set the focus manually. Therefore, you have about a 1/4 second delay between shutter release and "click". Err0r correction: The T2 uses active infrared focusing with about a 1/4 second cycle, not the contrast ranging "up to a second" remarked in the video. The T3 uses the same system at closer distances, then shifts to a contrast ranging system (like a SLR) for longer distances. It's very accurate, but on the T3 has a reputation for getting confused between the two focus systems.
