Yeah, I played in Training Mode. So what? It's still Normal difficulty.

I will say this right up front - I hate randomness in shoot em ups. That's why I love R-Type so much. Twitch gameplay is minimized. You move to a specific place, do a specific thing, and you're 100% safe. Contra isn't like that, so getting an S Rank in a few stages is a matter of luck. I hate hate HATE stage 5 for that. Is Lance going to do the pinball attack? Is he going to bounce into me if he does? Screw that. That stage alone is the reason why I didn't do a straight playthrough. Very annoying. Very frustrating.
Contra: Shattered Soldier stage 6 S-Rank was my first ever video recorded for RU-vid back on December 1st, 2007. I wanted to show off, and to my surprise, it got views... and I recorded the rest of the game's stages... and they got views... and holy crap. Subscribers? People can subscribe to what I'm doing? Man, those days. Also, those days of glorious 360p/480p, less than 100mb uploads, and ten minute time restrictions. I deleted the C:SS set a few years later, because I got a copyright claim, and not knowing what that meant, I took them down. None of my videos are monetized, and I don't care too much now as long as they can be viewed (and know who made it), so here we are again.
My favorite Shattered Soldier memory - in 2004, getting to stage 6 with my girlfriend (she was always Lucia), to the part where the cell rises up in the air and shoots blobs down at you. Without speaking, she would run from the right side of the screen over to me, we would both duck at the same time while aiming up and right, and open fire with our machine guns. To be that in sync with another person is a priceless feeling. We were damn good at this game, consistently getting the A-Rank ending.
