A Discussion and Review of the Bremont Longitude. The video focuses on a brief look at the Evolution of Watchmaking, the History of the "Longitude Problem" and how this factored into the development of the Bremont Longitude. Along with the inspirations, this watch introduces its first in-house movement (The ENG300) which makes it the first large scale watch movement to have been produced in Britain in over 50 years. The Longitude shows a proof of concept and a promising future but of course there is still plenty of room for development over the next few years.

Brilliant review And so much more engaging that you now are confident enough to include yourself in them. Bremont deserve more recognition than they currently get. Bremont's marketing strategy is first class e.g. the Martin Baker connection, the military connection both contemporary and historical (I own a Broadsword), their connection with the movie Kingsman, a watch made to honour Stephen Hawking and now this fantastic watch to honour one of the great stories of human endeavor and advancement. I really wish them well in their quest to bring watchmaking back to Britain.

That was terrific IDGuy, the best watch 'review' I've viewed for a *long* time. Bremont have killed it. I've never taken a lot of interest in the brand, their previous output doing nothing to excite. The triangular narrative of longitude, re-birthed British watchmaking and design hooked me. The arabics were a massive improvement visually, but took us further from the marine chronometer tradition imho. Congrats man. Great upload.

It's a cool story, right? That's what sold me on the pieces first off. Love that whole origin story and the name returning with something meaningful. Wasn't it del boy who found the H4 , and finally became a millionaire !!! Lol. It's nice to see a British company making fine timepieces again and becoming a top maker to rival the Swiss. After all rolex started out as a British company ! Great video as always, and good luck to bremont who have created some unusual designs to date.

I really enjoyed the review. I have a Bremont watch via a military (US Air Force) order. They provide great support to their military clients. Most of us are watch amateurs and not seasoned collectors. I am cheering for them as they continue to evolve.

Ive always really loved how bremont approaches their designs. They seem to get the balance between traditional and modern just right. Definately a JLC vibe with simple but fascinating details on the dials. And can you get any more compelling a story than the martin baker. Yes, i’m gonna want one of these for sure.

Great video. I've always enjoyed Bremont's design language. I wish they would make (a) more smaller pieces and (b) some models with no date (many of their aviation inspired watches are crying for a no-date variant). They deserve a lot more credit and support at home than they get (they are far more respected in the US, for example).

Great video as always. I hope Bremont has great success with this piece and it is the pre-curser to future great watches. So pleased to hear you discuss the subject of longitude . Without doubt has to be one of the most , if not the most important breakthroughs in the measurement of time. Harrison was a genius . His perseverance over a lifetime to achieve his goal a truly epic tale of heartbreak and success. The stable yard clock is still running today , with its lignum vitae bearings. Incredible! The accuracy of the longcase clock which I think he made with his brother , crazy! However, I think the most astonishing thing is that Harrison was a Carpenter first and foremost and not a clockmaker . His knowledge of wood and how he used it in the wooden clocks just mind blowing! The more you find out about Harrison the more important you realise he is to the history of timekeeping. A truly iconic figure who changed the world! We should all celebrate him more.

The wooden clock blows my mind, absolutely. Imagine the kind of work that was required to get those gears so accurate? and the 'grasshopper' escapement... the list goes on and on. Wouldn't it be great if he got the same kind of recognition that the other huge figures receive today? The man literally made world travelling possible... Thank you for this Mark! I made a video about Longitude a year or two ago and couldn't resist covering it again (it's got to be one of the best watch stories ever) 🥃

Thank you for the review. As ever well worth watching. In addition to the film I highly recommend the book “Longitude”. A great read. I liked your mock up of the Arabic numerals very much. I think they are marginally off with the aesthetics of the gold case and think it wold look wonderful with a traditional white face, just like the one you reviewed in white gold. I would love to support Bremont and their venture and I like the gold case very much and the white dial, not the brown ones so much. Maybe they will offer some customisation now they have control of the manufacture. Fundamentally good luck to Bremont and the revival of high quality watch making away from the “luxury brand conglomerates”. Tough gig taking them on and our support is needed!

Love your history lessons. Me, I prefer the way the hour markers the way they are. Each to our own. That is the beauty of watch collecting. When is the next Saturday watch pic extravaganza? I have been saving a very special Newfoundland rum, that does not taste like rum, for the first 2022 event.

Brilliant video IDGuy. So at long last after a lengthy drought a UK made watch movement (well most of it) has arrived. Over nearly 40 years working I have seen more and more companies outsource to 3rd parties only to see them fail later with the 3rd parties picking up and continue what they were contracted for initially. I'm not just pointing the finger at UK companies here. Having a limited run of 75 pieces (I'd call that a pilot run) makes a lot of sense. Welcome feedback from the lucky 75 and add it to what the company learned in prototype testing, make any tweeks as needed well before going all out volume (that should in theory reduce the cost per movement). A company can only do so much testing but there is nothing better than to get peoples feedback in the real world to iron out all the knobs... sorry issues. The decision by ETA to change the distribution model has made more manufacturers to either source different movement (Sellita, Seiko, Myota etc) or go the whole hog and move in house design that is as you rightly state incredibly expensive. Even independent brands like Oris have done it very well in my humble opinion all be it with some quirks. Nice one Bremont!

Helluva risky move going this way and pouring money into the project but there's great potential in the future. I think a lot of us deep down want to see something as big as UK movement manufacturing up and running again. All we can do is keep the knobs crossed and hope for the best. I'd love the idea of seeing a simple, time-only Longitude chronometer with all the bells and whistles (made in one place) And thank you as always Anthony! Great summary about the industry! 🥃

What Bremont are doing is ballsy and they should absolutely be celebrated. I’m one of the lucky ones to own the white gold version as reviewed in the video. For me, it’s the best watch Bremont have made yet and for many of the same reasons mentioned in the video review. I love the size (which is a better fit for me than their larger watches). It’s an absolutely stunning watch & easily my favourite Bremont. I have no issue with the index markers and must disagree with the Arabic numerals suggestion, however if I were to be critical about the watch, it’s with regards to the crown which (for reasons we might well explain) is a little too large for my liking. But that didn’t deter me - it’s an amazing watch and a fabulous achievement by Bremont. Bravo 👏

Love it, good looking watch. I like the Roman numeral at 12 & the batons keep it classical imho. Only criticism is the water resistance should be higher on a maritime timepiece. Good review, Cheers. There's lots of good elements to the piece. I guess looking at it now with hindsight, do all the parts marry together well? Love the Longitude film. Seen it twice (probably will watch it again) Nothing look a good period piece ;) Roger Smith is still the G.O.A.T of his generation. So great seeing that he's getting the recognition he deserves 🥃

Very true. The prices of these are gigantic. Don't know the full reason for the markups but I can imagine it has to do with the "in-house" cost of manufacture, with the small batch numbers, general cost of production in the UK etc etc. I also think that these being the "prototypes" in precious metals were more of a proof of concept. Hopefully in years to come we'll see a change (but there's no knowing) I'm in the same bracket when it comes to earnings too and five figures frightens me 😆 Thank you Larry for taking the time to watch the clip 🥃

I would suggest that Bremont are where Nomos was nearly 15 years ago and when it comes to £ Nomos are smashing it out of the park. Definitely worth a look at. Love your content.

It’s a gorgeous piece .. a bit of a shame it’s way beyond my income level, but at least I’m not alone in that regard. I own two Bremont Supermarines .. an S2000 Yellow, and an S502. Absolutely brilliant watches and it’s my highest hope that Bremont becomes one of the biggest luxury and tool watch makers there are. They just need to keep in mind that only appealing to the mega rich … is not good for longevity. So long as they keep a collection of tool watches for those lesser blessed with huge incomes .. they’ll do alright.

After your Seiko post i looked into the brand once again and purchased the Baby Tuna Save the Ocean of this year. Have it now a few days and loving it. Curious what you think design wise, i am not sure it is nice looking but it has something. All the best and keep up the great content.

@@ThD040 Bunnahabhain is hands down one of my favorites. Tried the 12 and was gifted the 18 for my birthday last year. It is incredible!! Only save it for special occasions. Such a gem. And Seiko! That Tuna case is what gives it an edge also just how those proportions have been shared out between the case and bezel. It looks super "intact" y'know? 🥃

This is Bremonts strength but unfortunately doesn't pay the bills. The resources required to sustain bespoke in house manufacturing capability is immense. Their recent marketing campaign and watch design changes is a great gamble. It takes them out of their bespoke aviation watch market and into the mainstream. Only time will tell if this was a good move. As a Bremont watch owner I wish them luck.

I think Bremont makes fantastic watches but they're overpriced. I thought about getting the Longitude white gold/dial but even in the recent winter sales it didn't get below £15k. I ended up buying a H1 Fury for about 60% of its £6k list price in those sales. Accuracy-wise - if I leave it for a couple of days face up, it maintains perfect accuracy; however when worn it loses 2 secs per day which is respectable, I guess.

Anyone who has owned product with rubber housing knows that thing is going to get disgusting and sticky as it ages and will need to be replaced..regularly.

I like the physical design and look of the watch, however, the theme has a glaring error. How can one take a “longitude” timepiece seriously, which can’t keep time sufficient to measure its namesake properly? The only way the theme completes, is to have made a certified chronometer. Bremont has no business invoking longitude, or Greenwich, and certainly not Harrison, if they haven’t made a watch which can run accurately, to marine timekeeping standards.

It can't be certified as there is no such certification for English watches and as he explained in the video, COSC won't certify it as it's not Swiss.

Just because it can’t be COSC certified does not mean that it does not meet the same standard. It is not Swiss, it is British.

I don't think you're the only one either. I've always felt the words "heritage" and "aviation" have played into their language, but heritage without heritage is hard to start with ;) BUT time might help with drawing that distinction. It's difficult getting that "message" across, right?

Oh yeah, the watch that was supposed to contain Bremont's in-house movement that they've talked about for years, that they eventually copped out and bought a movement design from a third-party. Pretty sure Bremont don't even refer to this movement as in-house. They call it manufacture, which is more honest than calling it in-house.

It is a nice looking watch but £20k for a Bremont, especially with all the dodgy in house movement scandals. You can get far superior precious metal watches for the money.
