I think these mixes are horrible and it’s the only reason I don’t like it. The songs are cool, and there’s obvious talent in this band.

@@mvvnlit3983 I don't think the mix is as bad as like, that last Loathe song, but i can see it feeling off in the first listen, i'm used to the mix by now though

Whenever I read those arguements I cant help but feel a little put off. Why is everyone that dislikes the new direction automatically assumed to want The Dark Pool 2, with the bad conotation that wanting TDP 2 is bad or lame or autistic (not my words). I dont event want TDP 2, I would want a evolvment of that, a new direction thats not 180° different. I think I could handle a music change by 90°, if that makes sense, but with this, its too much for me. But its probably my fault cause I hold TDP to such high standards ..

@@linker94 I agree, I don’t understand why wanting a continuation of an incredible album is crazy? Like TDP was absolutely loved and was exciting to most people who heard it, why wouldn’t people want an even BETTER version of that?

@@linker94 Don't worry, in my case i genuinelly feel bad for the people that wanted an evolution of the previous sound, cause i like the new one a lot. The stupid ones are the people generalizing whichever side of the argument as stupid, it's just a difference in music taste and expectations. In my case i love both TDP and the new singles, they are unique enough for me to like them independently despite the low volume vocals, also the deftones influences are a huge plus for me.

Me too I love thornhill I just got into them late this year and I had a chance to see them live with moodring so good.

I agree. The effects are just too much on his vocals and to me, it ruins the gentleness and beauty of his voice. I feel like this effect works well with his highs cuz it just compresses it so much and makes it sound like a screeching guitar at some parts. Such a shame.

I personally think that removing the distortion from his voice would fundamentally change the vibe of the songs for the worse. I do agree that it's a bummer that the vocals are drowned out as much, but it fits the style a lot imo.

@@Blaarkable I think the effects could have been dialed down a bit in this song. Like in Casanova, I think his voice sounds fine with the effects.

Nah it’s a shoegaze/grunge thing look at Deafheaven they have parts where the vocals get smothered and it’s intentional. It’s a creative thing and I kinda like when bands don’t always focus on the vocals 24/7 just because the singer is opening his mouth doesn’t mean that’s the most important part of the song. It’s about the composition.

The thing is that this different direction is everything _but_ unique. It's Deftones X Muse. The songs are good in itself, but nothing special to me.

The way I see it is the TDP sound is complete and I don't really see anything new that can come out of that sound and im fine with that. It will always be a masterpiece and a showcase of Thornhill's uniqueness and creativity. I would love to hear more of the TDP sound but I just don't think a TDP 2 would be as interesting or as wanted as a lot of people think, I personally do not like when bands continue doing one specific sound just because "it works" that material gets repetitive quick and especially in the state of metal we are in right now where a trend is started and almost every band jumps on it and abuse that style till everybody gets bored. Remember when Nu Metalcore became popular with bands like Alpha Wolf, Dealer, etc. A lot of bands jumped on that Nu Metalcore craze a few years ago and in my opinion its a dry part of Metalcore, I think the only band that keeps that unique and interesting is Alpha Wolf themselves and LANDMVRKS. Anyway I think i got my point across these are just my ramblings I'm high so don't mind me.

Well thornhill is going as a four piece now their Rhythm Guitarist Matt had announced he stepped down from the band from performing and touring he's now full time manager with thornhill.

You know what they say about reinventing the wheel.

To me I was confused with the lyrical content for hlooywood.

it's completely stylistic, it's meant to have that "larger than life" feel, it's setting up for a BIG section at the end of the album for sure

There are some obvious changes in sound, and I don't blame people for not liking them (I am loving them), but it just confuses me because this band legit got me into shoegaze and people are saying thornhill wasn't shoegazy on TDP?

@@QuantumLimp for me it's just that on the DP I could make out what Jacob was saying and on this track I can't really.But I actually like this sound very much.

@@benedekistvan2655 that's definitely fair, I normally didn't care for being able to hear the lyrics that well in the first place (I have a seemingly harder time than most, anyways) so maybe that's some aspect I'm missing in some of the backlash

I got into them through these singles and really enjoy the experimentation aspect with these more than I enjoy The Dark Pool

Definitely agree with you on Wolves at the Gate's album. I would be lying if said I didn't get chills everywhere several times while listening to it.
