Akbar Ganji is, no doubt an enlightened person. I must praise the skill of the young man who is translating Persian to English and English to Persian, his translation is both precise, consise and easy to understand both for the participants and us audiences.
I thank Harry Kreisler for so skillfully steering this insightful interview as in the past and Akisbar Ganji for his braveness, clarity and depth of thoughts and his modesty. I also thank Mr. Aramesh for brevity of his translation. The interview shows that the political and social situations in Iran are complex and do not lend themselves to superficial interpretations such as those by the Western media in the past three decades. There are numerous real people and thinkers in Iran.
This is a fantastic talk , Ganji presents an intelligent and realistic analysis of the Iran's regime .I encourage everyone who is wondering about the complexity of political situation in Iran to watch this video.
Brilliant ideas and thinking by Ganji, I do hope that one day Iranian itlectuals and political desident will consolidate their power and stand under one ubrella to move forward to remove the totalitarian regime in Iran. And great Iterepreting by Arash.
What Ganji was saying in second half of this interview is pretty universal and reminded me heavily on my country's situation. For us in Balkans, they(US) are doing the same for ~17 years now. On one side they proclaim positive values and cooperation, while on other, they do everything to destabilize the region. Instead of "In God we trust" it should be "Divide and Conquer".
a nicely balanced view. norizadeh, meybodi and the rest of these biased intellectuals should take heed and understand that democracy is a universal movement, not limited to the borders of islam.

@CASEMAN57 utterly wrong, if you've been following his speeches and his work, he has never changed his way. his fundamental ideas are still there, and it has not changed abit. he has a very solid personality, i do disagree with you on that.

Ganji is a Mulla too! He just dress differently, this guy has grown up in poverty and religious environment and like all other revolutionaries their main motivation is poverty! The poor are an easy target for revolutionaries, and he is one of those, He like his colleague Mohsen Sazgara was one of first members of IRGC and they helped to stablish this monster, all these years before he comes to US he worked as a member and torturer! He was used from early age and all through these years in anyway which possible until he realized all his life been a big mistake and leave Iran, but inside he still believes in his views regarding Islam and I would even come out and say that he could be an agent of Mullas just waiting for the day to harm Great Satan ! There are many like him in US, some of those who took US diplomats hostage in Tehran for 444 days are living in US and they even have US green card, to me this tells 2 things 1 - US government is really stupid to allow this to happen 2 - US government knows this but for some reason allow this

@kafir1917 This was a translation issue. He clearly meant that they don't immediately lead to democracy. France wasn't truly democratic until over half a century from the beginning of the revolution. The English Revolution is your own moniker for the english civil war, and there was no true democracy in England for over 100 years after that. The American Revolution was unique in that it was a colony splitting from a colonial power. Napoleon and Cromwell were dictators, not democratic leaders.
He say that the islamic revolution was nothing they could do about thats a total lie. What about Shahpour bahktiars goverment whom tried to give the people what they wanted? but still they chanted khomeini. It was the people who was wrong they have to understand that..
Mr.Ganji ,If you read this message ,why you dont puuling up your sleeves and call for trustworthy people and esablish the first democratic party of iran ? if you beleieve in democracy then do that !
hmmmm: he says "revolutions can not lead to democracy". Wrong! French revolution led to democracy. So did American revolution and English Revolution. With "intellectuals" like this ex bassiji, no wonder Iran is in such a mess.
