I consider very important that people can listen when they have to listen and that they speak when they have to speak. The presentator is respecful and let him speak. This is an example of intelligence. Ramadan's Life is a very interesting one, because he has had to conciliate two very different cultures of which they is part of

This is Belayet Hossen from International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). I am very much happy and enlightened to watch this video which helped me learn many information about Professor Tariq Ramadan. He is one of my intellectual guides. His lectures given in my countries around the world shaped my mind and made me a critical thinker. A lot of thanks to the presenter and University of California for sharing this historical and informative video!

I like the way Mr. Ramadan is representing religion, as it is a personal experience rather than an instrument used by sheikhs, priests and rabbis ... on the point of stoning adulterers it is important to know that Qur'an itself did not tell to stone them .. the punishment is defined to be 100 lashes, in case it was revealed to people ... but in 99.99999999 % of the cases it is not public and it is almost impossible for 4 people to witness such act and testify, so in most cases God tells those who sinned to ask him for forgiveness and to reform their acts

B. Aaron von Hagen That is totally not true, your understanding of islam is not more than cherry pickings, the same way ISIS deals with Qur'an. All the verses about fight and jihad in Qur'an only legislate fighting for defence or protection ( Whether the attackers are infidels or muslims ) you are obligated to resist, but you're not authorised to kill innocent people . Qur'an is clear about non fighting or oppressing non-believers " Allah does not forbid you from those who do not fight you because of religion and do not expel you from your homes - from being righteous toward them and acting justly toward them. Indeed, Allah loves those who act justly" 60:8 Read the Qur'an carefully and with decency and good intentions, then come to criticise ... or else your criticism won't be founded on critical grounds whatsoever

B. Aaron von Hagen You can't deny the miracles of the Qur'an , foretelling about future events which we are living today .. and many other miraculous aspects of Qur'an, it's not fair to act as if you don't know them while you just want to criticise ... or perhaps you didn't read it an analytical reading or interpretative reading
@firashashash7371
@firashashash7371 9 лет назад
B. Aaron von Hagen One other thing to mention, is that many translations that I have read, all of them are translations in light of certain interpretation of some ( Math'hab ) such as Salafism or Wahabism ... etc. In fact, they reflect the intentions of the translators ... so the best way to get a good understanding of Qur'an is to listen to intellectuals who knows arabic and can interpret Qur'an in a way that reflects critical thinking, listen to their reasoning and be open minded to the diversity within islam

B. Aaron von Hagen And everything you said is a lie
@firashashash7371
@firashashash7371 9 лет назад
B. Aaron von Hagen Once again you're lying, Qur'an didn't forbid reading the bible. . Instead Qur'an confirmed that the Bible and the Torah are God's words

An antidote to the Us vs. Them discourse. Ramadan reminds us that Islam is an integral part of Western heritage and that by treating Muslims as "other" we are denying part of ourselves. To young Muslims-- and to all of us who are not of the majority faith, whether Jewish, Hindu or atheist-- he counsels, religion and culture are not identical. Accept what is good and reject what is unjust here and back home. According to your principles: ask, in their light is what we are doing right or wrong?

@CaptainSandyHook We Americans not only talk about rights of people in other countries, we also intervene and legitimize the use of violence in the name of lets say Iraqi rights, Afghani rights and so on! It's perfectly normal that others talk about American rights. I think that's part of the global conversation.

After listening to Mr Ramadan I am more hopeful than ever that faith communities can learn to live together in peace and harmony as their creators would have wished them to do. Thinkers on the caliber of Ramadan should be cherished and held in the highest regard by all those who lay claim to the name "civilized"

you are the best MR RAMADAN.. god bless you.
@bestelectronicmusicfromnew5189
there are awesome muslims in france, zidan, hanuna etc, but its nice to see Tariq in Jail and to know that he will be there for 5000 days and that he won't be around to encourage the rape of algerian schoolgirls and women that do not know the muslim religion properly.

@TheEparanor If you have watched his interviews, how can you say whether he is wise or not. Read his books, if you're open minded, and just don't make assumptions about someone you barely know. Most of the interviews, or debates he appeared in, people try to attack him, without even managing to understand the sense of his beliefs and ideas. Truth hurts, and so many people don't like him because he has the guts to - at least - create conversations about things that could make the world better.

@lajage92 I don't think Taqqiya is shia belief, but is used for all muslims when necessary. Isn't that what the son of Sumeyye, the 1st lady martyr, did when he was threatened to be killed too for his faith?

if you accept the fact that there are fine decent muslims, why do you expect tariq ramadan to explain the actions of the a few nutcases?

@CaptainSandyHook

He can talk about American rights all he wants, but his basic tenets are opposed to American rights and the constitution. One example should suffice. Islamic jurisprudence denies a defendent the right to counsel, and the right to a trial by jury.

Absolutely true, but how is it credit jurisprudence Islamic , when you shall not bear a false witnesess to Your neighbor? AL- Imran :53 ? 😂
