This man is one of the great artists of our time! His edgy and soulful voice was a perfect blend with the McCartneys'. An exceptional live multi-instrumentalist. I saw Denny in 1976... at the time, the greatest show on earth. He's an unforgettable performer.

After the dissolution of the Beatles, Paul was struggling to make a brilliant return and was a huge success at WINGS. Without his brilliant support, Paul's success in the 1970s could not have been. Special thanks to Denny Laine.

@@dennylaine8735 Ms. Denny Laine, is that you? I'd like to reply to you as if I were you. In 1975, when I was 12 years old, I fell in love with The Beatles and Wings, which got me into rock music. The following year, I started a band with other musicians. I still write and play music. Last night, I played a live concert at a small restaurant. The Beatles and Wings, of which you were a member, are the reason why I am able to enjoy music and performances like this now. If I didn't have rock music and playing in bands in my life, how tasteless, painful and lonely it would have been. I have enjoyed listening to various artists' music since 1975 until today, but I still find myself listening to The Beatles and Wings, who first turned me on to rock music. And every time I see your performance and appearance in live videos, I am convinced that Wings was completed only because of you. Thank you so much for giving me inspiration, joy, and a reason to live my life. Translated with www.DeepL.com/Translator (free version)

Great interview. Denny Laine has been a hero of mine since I was 10 years old (when I first heard Go Now! on the radio in 1964). I even skipped school a couple of times in those days so I could get a chance to listen to his and the Moodies' songs on the radio. (As a scientist and writer now, I can say this is not recommended!) But I've been a fan of the Moody Blues and of Denny Laine's music ever since, and I saw Denny play a few solo shows a couple of times in south-west London soon after he left Wings (briefly having the chance to speak with Denny after one show he did in Putney). Wonderful music, wonderful memories. Congratulations to Denny for the music that has affected, influenced and inspired so many peoples' lives over so many years and in so many different ways. And thanks so much for this interview.

Bravo big fan of Denny actually talked to him a few years back. My best friend was sick at the time so my attention was for her. And I lost contact unfortunately, but he was very friendly and said that because of people like myself that the players of those days stay relevant and on people's thoughts. I thought that was an awesome thing to say and really cool. No worries Denny we got ya we won't forget and thanks for the music. God bless.

Denny was a great foil to Macca during the Wings era and ever-present throughout. Younger fans might not appreciate how big Wings got in the 70s, Band on the Run probably being the pinnacle, creatively, to which Denny contributed a lot. Great singer, writer and player. Check out his other work to fully appreciate the guy. Respect.

We always talk about "the British invasion" but it was more British moths attracted to the flame of American music...blues etc ...and then the fire attracted to the moths
Interviewer mention UK 4:33 band Friends, saw latter in Baltimore, awesome sound. Their alblum was a 3D image of a classic radio. Whatever happened to Friends ?
Denny played such a big part in Wings over the years especially on the Band On The Run album. I don’t think it would have had the success it did had he not been there in making that album. It’s such a pity they no longer play together anymore in some complicity. It would have been nice if Paul would had invited Denny to join him on his tours singing those old Wings songs.
I still feel there was some sort of falling out between Paul and Denny. I mean, if you watch Paul's Wingspan documentary, I'm not sure he ever even mentions Denny by name. Paul spoke more about Pete Best in The Beatles doc than he did about Denny in the whole of Wingspan.
Denny wasn't even pictured on the Wingspan box cover despite being in the band for it's entire duration. Only Paul and Linda appeared on the cover. I also think that they had a falling out. Paul actually bought out Denny's share of songwriting credits for Mull of Kintyre. I believe he did this to help Denny out when he needed money.
It was terrible how Paul treated Denny Laine. Yes you were right about Mull of Kintrye. I couldn’t believe this when I read about it and thought why didn’t he just given him the money. Denny played such a big part in Wings especially on the Band on the Run album. It’s such a pity they no longer play together anymore in some complicity. It would have been nice if Paul would have invited Denny to join him on tour singing those old Wings songs.

As a 13 year old kid I was impressed how Denny and Paul created and played all the instruments on the Band on the Run album. Linda was credited with keyboards but i wouldn't wager on the veracity of that actually being factual.
Right. How is this guy a Wings and McCartney fan and NOT know Mull of Kintyre? The song was never a single in the USA but it's still been on Greatest Hits albums.
DENNY LAINE (Sung by a Paul McCartney sound-alike to the tune of 'Penny Lane' by The Beatles) Our Denny Laine was born in Tyseley Nineteen Forty-four; And while his parents named him Brian Frederick Hines , The young guitarist pondered, then opined A new name he'd find. When The Diplomats were over came The Moody Blues And Denny played and sang and wrote for several years. Then the ESB was formed with peers And those soaring Strings-pretty things! Denny Laine is in our ears and in my band- Wings! He plays and sings. Give him a hand Or two, and then we learn Our Denny Laine recorded singles as a soloist And then he played with Ginger Baker's Air Force too. But he was prone to finding something new With a whole new crew. [Piccolo Trumpet solo] Denny Laine is in our ears and in my band! Wings did many things while on the run For tours, and then we learn Our Denny left and then he started up more solo work, Completing 'Anyone Can Fly' in eighty-two. And he co-wrote 'Rainclouds' fresh and new With yours truly too. His albums 'Hometown Girls' and Lonely Road' and 'Master Suite' Then led to five years with the World Class Rockers tour. And with retirement premature, He kept going strong-oh so long! Denny Laine is in our ears and on our minds! When he sings and plays you often find Your youth, so this is why Denny Laine stays in our ears and on our minds! Where the music plays you 'll always find Denny Laine!
Great music massive talent. Just curious did you know Peter Attenborough from school he’s my younger brothers dad and he always said he knew you from when you both were at school in Tyseley take care xx
Love Denny Laine and what he has to say despite a really bad interviewer. I don't think he knew who he was or the music he played, just that he played with Paul McCartney.

Interviewer was all over the place. Just when Denny was about to elaborate into something interesting, he interrupts and changes the subject. Very annoying. And he hadn't even HEARD Mull of Kintyre?? WTF. Let's hope someone does a better long-form interview with Denny. EDIT: Oh, hi Denny, btw LOL
The guy interviewing Denny needed to stop interrupting and talking over top of him so much. Otherwise, good interview. Love to hear Denny's story and would love to hear more from him

To be fair, Denny was in the band before the Moody Blues really took off and became the band that they're really famous for. It's like they were two different bands that sounded nothing alike, with Denny and post-Denny.
I wish Paul hadn't gotten busted and Wings went on but that's all water under the bridge now. Guess one would say the same about the Beatles but once you see Get Back you understand why they had to part ways. Thank you for the music Denny.
@@sav0618 At George Martin's behest, unfortunately. BTTE was a good indication of where Wings could have gone in the early 80's. Instead, McCartney played it safe and went middle-of-the-road MTV pop with Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson, made the abysmal GMRtBS film and accompanying schmaltzy and sickly sweet 'No More Lonely Nights', then went on to release the worst album of his career (along with Off The Ground and Driving Rain)-Press To Play, though I do have a soft spot for the 'Once Upon A Long Ago' single that was not even released in the States, go figure. Any way, I believe Wings had at least a couple more great albums up their sleeves with the addition of the two younger members, Juber and Holley, who injected Wings with a youthful energy as well as amazing chops. Unfortunately, Paul has never regained the R 'n' R edge he lost when he disbanded Wings at, again, George Martin's selfish behest just so he could work with and produce the Tug Of War album, which was a pyrrhic victory (and frankly disappointing to these ears), if anything, but I digress..
Davey Jones of The Monkees always publicly maintained that the Beatles were the world's first manufactured rock band. By 1970, the Fab Four had run their course and completed their covert mission of effecting cultural change on a massive scale in the West.
Maybe its just me but when you watch a Denny Laine interview you really don't want to hear too much about Denny Laine, he possibly got sick of being asked about Paul.
Not a bad interview except for the interviewer get the little too talkative and covering over whatever Danny wants to say he's like he'd rather hear himself talk I think!
Paul never talks about him because after the end of Wings, Laine and his wife JoJo to make a lot of interviuw talking so bad about Paul & Linda only for money. Paul never forget it.
@@justanotherrandomcrit8115 this comment must be a joke, right? He might be one of the most forgiving human being the planet has ever known! After all that John said, and did to him in the early 70s including George not only did he forgive them both, but he literally held George hand before he died and gave him a comfortable place to die. On top of that, if the Alan Klein situation had been reversed and it was John on the outside looking in at the other three who got screwed by crying you don’t think John would’ve screamed from the rooftops I told you so?! Of course you would have. Meanwhile, Paul never said a freaking worried about it. It’s pretty incredible if you ask me!
Siegel has to be one of the worst invterviewers ever. Constantly interrupting, telling Laine's story for him. Thanks for letting him getting a word in edgewise siegel. Why bother even having a guest?
You know there's something that should be said and one thing is that when it comes to psychedelic music I would have to say that The Moody Blues were ten times more of a psychedelic quote acid band then almost any other band out there besides the Grateful Dead when you really put your ear to some Moody Blues records you realize that they were in the loop and I want to tell you the most underrated band out there got to be The Moody Blues listen to what was it children's children's children Days of Future Past question of balance I'm not sure if Danny Lane was on all those records I think he left at one point but still he was part of a band that may never get there just due
An interviewer shouldn't talk over his interviewees, shouldn't contradict them, should research the facts about the subject and listen. The first 8 minutes pretty much showed none of these qualities. Frustrating.
Worst interviewer ever……at least do some research! How could he not know Mull of Kintyre…..let alone think it was an Irish folk song…….and…..don’t ask a question…then interrupt the guy replying to your question.
How he worked with McCartney was fine , but how he switched to a solo career was not remembered in any way . The song "Go now" is below average. How It got there , and took first place in the charts 50 years ago , God only knows . Now Danny can proudly repeat at every opportunity: My song was at the first place for a week in the popularity lists . Although Paul's children's song "I've just seen the face" was much better in my opinion . However , he is an excellent guitarist . Those two guitarists who have been playing with Paul at concerts for the last 20 years ( one is blond and the other is dark ) are worse than him , as far as playing the guitar is concerned .
