Really enjoyed this one Jonesey. Glad to see that you're getting a lot of use out of that 2 piece vise.

You might be able to add a vertical hacksaw to your workshop. 😂

my bandsaw came like that but the "table" was a biy of bent 2mm mild steel. it was extremely noisy due to vibrations. I too put a plate top on 200x200x15mm as thats what I had

Did you find the machine very unstable ? I had to put outriggers onto the floor to prevent the lads in the workshop tipping it over when raising it to vertical. I assumed that was why the replacement machine i bought didn't have the facility as in this Nany State, we find ourselves living in, it was deemed too dangerous.

Great job Jonesey, If the plate was thick enough, you could have incorporated a T-slot. Wish you do more projects 👍🤞

Good stuff there, Jonesey :) Advice for future operations: When using the slitting saw, it's fairly dangerous to do climb cuts. The risk of a self reinforcing, cumulative deflection issues is very high. Always try to do conventional cuts with slitting saws :)
@joneseymakes
@joneseymakes 9 месяцев назад
Great advice, thanks for that. I’ll bear it in mind next time I get the slitting saw out.
@cooperised
@cooperised 9 месяцев назад
@@joneseymakesIt's also recommended to take the full depth of cut in one bite with a slitting saw, too - otherwise you can end up with chips packing into the slot on subsequent cuts, which can bind the cutter. Taking a full depth cut requires some nerve and a solid setup but is actually much less risky.
@joneseymakes
@joneseymakes 9 месяцев назад
@@cooperised I do normally do that, but my setup was not solid on this one so I did it in several passes

Finish on the plate: flycutter, not facemill, and it shouldn't be floating on parallels, it should be clamped to the table (yes, you will have to move the clamps as you mill it).. Accuracy because you had to turn the plate .. you should indicate the machined side to be straight before cutting the second side. Those two screws on the bandsaw you used for mounting a table were designed for mounting a table. My saw (almost identical) came with a crappy sheet metal table that screws there, plus a brace.
@nobbysworkshop
@nobbysworkshop 9 месяцев назад
You could cut some rebates on the top edge of the vice hard jaws so you don't need to use parallels. Nice job on the band saw. Thanks for sharing. Cheers Nobby

I have one of these types of saw. It came with the plate that you make here. As far as I am aware, it is a standard accessory. Question- why did you bother surfacing the steel plate? It is surely flat enough as it is, especially considering how close together the mounting screws are- and they are on a riser that is far from precise. In practice, all sawn edges are going to get machined anyway, so it matters not.
@joneseymakes
@joneseymakes 9 месяцев назад
It wasn’t standard with my machine. I machined it just because I wanted to get it as square as possible. Probably overkill!

You should see if you can make it work it the horizontal position too, then all you have to do is deal with the pin.
@joneseymakes
@joneseymakes 9 месяцев назад
Good idea, there isn’t the room though as the plate interferes with the vise in the horizontal position. It’s only two bolts so takes seconds to fit anyway.

i did one of them the only concern i have is the amount of exposed blade one slip an your in take care

Love your videos as always. Would it not be easier to simply switch blades on the wood bandsaw to a metal cutting one?
@ADBBuild
@ADBBuild 9 месяцев назад
Wood bandsaws are generally lighter built, lower power and higher speed. Because of this, they don't work great for cutting metal.
@jimmclaughlin9069
@jimmclaughlin9069 8 месяцев назад
Great video, I'm going to make the same for my bandsaw - One question, what blade make/tpi/speed are you using to get such a quick cut in the radius you cut in the demo at the end?
@joneseymakes
@joneseymakes 8 месяцев назад
Ahhhh, admission here - that footage is sped up 4 times so it doesn’t cut that fast. It’s just the standard blade that came with the machine.

Great project! I'm also intrigued by the oil damper you show, my 4 1/2" bandsaw lacks one of those - is yours a superior model or is that something you've added?

Thanks! I didn’t add the damper, it was fitted as standard.

3:04 - A couple of appropriately sized bolts into t-nuts in your t-slots with locking nuts could give you the adjustability on the height that you’re looking to get from your parallels. Not 100% sure that it needs to be micron perfect though, considering you’re bolting it to one of those horizontal bandsaws. I have one and it’s not exactly precision engineering!
@joneseymakes

With this use of the saw, the canvas becomes unusable very quickly, which is why I refused such user. The plasma cutter copes well with such types of work.
