What's up everyone! Today we're working on my 2011 Chevy Silverado. I figured it was time to give it some attention, so the first step before any mods is getting the exterior refreshed starting with the frame and underbody. In the past I've used rubberized undercoatings and POR15 with not the best results. After doing a bit of research I decided to try out a lanolin based product instead, so we're testing out Surface Shield.

What you are doing, I have had the best results. Looks to last the longest and covers well. Thanks for the video.

Well done. Thank you. I have an '04 Tacoma that I am getting ready for winter... Now, I want to get an air compressor so I can put graphite powder into my SS. The black is much more appealing. 🤘

Did my tacoma a year ago.with surface sheild. Its held up ok but im definitely doing it again before this winter. Anywhere the frame and rear axle area see alot of spray and weather from the road is gone. But other places under my truck has held up real good. Im guessing any undercoating will wear off if exopsed heavy rains and slushy roads. Im still using surface shield but just doing it every year

I just did my 2020 Tacoma for the first time with Surface Shield. I’m wondering how well it will hold up through a car wash which I do frequently in winter. Did you take yours through a car wash and if so how well did it stick?

Fluidfilm has a black formulation. Curious why you didn't choose it?

Yes, I saw that fluid film comes in black, and I may use it, or wool wax in the future depending on how well surface shield holds up. The main reason I went with surface shield was mostly because of the 2 year lifespan. I wanted to test it out, and see how it performs, and how long it’ll last. Otherwise surface shield, wool wax, and fluid film are very similar to one another since they’re a lanolin product.

The main difference in the formula is that surface shield has both lanolin AND petroleum. Theoretically the additional petroleum in the SS should allow it to hold up a little longer and provide all the benefits of lanolin. I wouldn’t be surprised if you see Fluid Film and others update their formula. I did the exact same thing with SS and the graphite powder. Hopefully Blaster will provide a black product as well. For me it’s a requirement. If you don’t have a lift and you’re underneath the vehicle in poor lighting the black color helps to show where you’ve already sprayed - and it covers existing rust making everything look really nice. To answer your question - we tint the SS black instead or using FF or WW because the SS appears to be a superior product that is thinner and easier to work with. We shall see if it holds up over the winter.

Im looking to do my 2017 silverado . IT has a wax coated frame. Did you have any issues with original wax coming off.

The original wax coating on mine was fine from when I bought new in 2011. Then around 2019-ish, the wax coating started to fall off. I think the 2014 and up Silverado's had issues with the wax from factory.
