Nurse of 20 years! I’ve worked OR, medsurg, dialysis, case management, public health. I took 6 months off last year because I was burned out. Jumped back in to inpatient CM in January and I hated it. Left to do outpatient care coordination.. and I’m like I can’t! I don’t know if I’ve lost my drive, or I’m just tired of the nursing profession. Maybe it’s the M-F grind and I need to just work weekends. I’ve thought do I need to go back to bedside or just take a different path! Im a cancer too and emotions are everywhere. There is money to be made and I just don’t have the desire to make it… 😢

But I’m really excited because I feel like it will be a great fit for me because I’ve been in home help and home health since middle school. I truly believe nursing is my calling. I worked with a nurse at a nursing home and I got a chance to see her really heal and be there for a resident who was dying, all the nurses and CNAs were set on the idea that she was a miserable and mean woman I just saw that resident go from being the mean and miserable woman everyone thought she was to the sweetest woman right before she passed and it really was all because that nurse took a chance to listen and be there for her. It really was gods work and I want to be there for someone like that one day. I’m a CNA student and my goal is to go from CNA (maybe try PCT) , to LPN then to a RN. Thank you for your channel ❤

Yes, I LOVE this story. I remember a professor of mine said that every behavior has a reason behind it, if you can get to the reason why a person is acting a certain way you can help to change or better understand their behavior. Some of our older and sick patients are sitting with years of guilt, shame and regret and they use anger and mean energy as a way to shield themselves from the world. If we give them the chance to express themselves and feel heard that change that behavior just like that. Now some people are just mean and spiteful, but I've seen patients open up and soften in just one shift they become a different person. People need people and none of us really knows how it feels to be older, sicker and alone with strangers taking care of us. Good luck on your journey and always keep site of the power you have to make or break a person's day.

Yh the VA policy has changed, I had to leave my Va job to do nursing school. They only do full time positions and that’s Monday - Friday. I was in the process of having them pay for my program and everything but school is fast past and content heavy I had to leave. If you work at the VA now, just make sure you leave on good terms, keep up the relationship with your chief and management so that you have a portal back in when you are ready to go back.

If the department is already under staffed and you want to move or go to school for something else, which means that in a year or two you will be leaving; yes they will give you push back the cooperate way. The VA is corporate, regardless of what area you are in and they are for themselves (sad to say), which is why the employees have a union that management is not apart of.
