In this video, I review the Convoy S21B with CSLPM1.TG. I consider this light to be a slightly larger version of the S2+, as it takes a 21700 cell and has better heatsinking. This light cost me merely $20 on AliExpress! One of the highest-performing lights in relation to its price. If you're looking for a pocketable long-distance flashlight that won't break the bank, check out my video.

Update 26/03/23: The S21B from this video definitely has the CSLPM1.TG - disregard if I say CULPM1 in the video... I always get confused between the two. I bought this version specifically to try the CSLPM1.TG as it has a 3030 footprint.

Convoy S21B Video Transcript
General thoughts after a week of usage/size comparison/practicality:
• This is basically the 21700 version of the Convoy S2+ with a few extra bells and whistles. I like the design and look of this light better than the S2+. This thing really throws well, and it deals with heat better than the S2+ due to the extra material and heatsinking.
• Visual comparison.
• Easily pocketable, but no clip.
• 21700 powered. It can also take 18650 cells!
Overall Construction, LED, lens, bezel, and reflector
• Very well machined, it has such a clean and yet modern-looking design with interesting cutouts. The stainless steel bezel is a nice touch as well, giving it a more premium feel. Silvery gray anodizing smooth and gives it a sleek appearance.
• Mine comes with a CSLPM1.TG emitter with AR lens. Shallow smooth reflector.
UI - modes
• Modes demo
Performance - total output, beam profile, longevity, practicality
• Ceiling bounce test, CRI, CCT, candela
Considerations
• No clip included, but you can buy these separately through Simon's store
• Mine had dust under the lens
• Gets hot on 100%
• No on-board charging
Verdict
• A solid 21700 cell flashlight for an excellent price - mine was around $20. If you like the S2+ and want some extra performance and battery life, this is the light for you.

Somehow the RU-vid algorithm had read my mind. One year after this video was made, I made a purchase for a Convoy S21B with the CSLPM1.F1 with the green LED. It's awesome and I wished Convoy also made the GT Green LED available for the S21B instead of the M21H. 🔦❤

You can ask Simon on his official or Ali store to put that Gentian led into this light. He makes customs often with no extra charge. Depends if he can fit it in the reflector with suitable driver. I think the algorithm knows me more than myself at times...

@@DarrenYeoYT Appreciate the advice mate. I am afraid that getting to know Simon and his custom jobs will only lead me deeper into the flashlight rabbit hole. 😑 I'm already beginning to feel some buyer's remorse in rushing in and buying too many flashlights in just four months instead of pacing things. This is why I only limit myself to Convoy (for the greenies), Wurkkos and Sofirn brands and restrict my choices to single cell 18650/21700 flashlights. It's the same reason why I limited myself to Seiko, Citizen, Orient and Casio watches in the early 2000s. If I had gotten into Invicta, Russian and Chinese Seagull watches, I would never see the end of it. 😭 Nevertheless, I am impervious to saute pan videos or multi-tool knives. It's a good thing that cooking utensils had never made it to my hobbies list as a child. 😁

You could use the Wurkkos 20350 tube with the S21B and make a nice shorty, it works well with the Sofirn clip.

Oh yeah? Maybe Convoy sell a small ext. Tube for this one. I'm a bit OCD with making sure tubing matches 😬

The S21B, unlike the S21A and M21A, can actually use 22mm drivers like the M21B can. It would generate a ton of heat but maybe you can mod them together for a bit of testing fun? 😈 Use that nice 8a driver.
@DarrenYeoYT

That's interesting, didn't know that. So you can run some harder hitting LEDs in this host... The shallow reflector is another bottleneck.

If I compare your throw measurements between the S21B (CSLPM1) vs the S8 (CSLPM1) it looks like the S21B has a slightly better throw.

I can't remember what the S21B throw was, but make sense as it has a larger reflector. Not as deep though.

which would be better? this in.... SFT40 or XHP50.2?
@DarrenYeoYT
@DarrenYeoYT 8 месяцев назад
The 50.2 would run cooler, produce produce more light. But would be have less range than the SFT40. A good go between is the XHP50.3 HI - it's a de-domed version of the 50.2/3. Extra throw.

Is this a CULPM1 or CSLPM1? In the audio you say CULPM1 but in the title and in the beamshot part you have it listed as CSLPM1.

@@DarrenYeoYT Thank you! I've been debating about swaping the 519A (5000K) from my S2+ for a CSLPM1 or the new and updated XPL-HI 5000K, I want something more efficient while keeping a nice neutral tint and not cool white.
@mikafoxx2717
@mikafoxx2717 Год назад
@@300ZCorradoVR6Z You'd probably be better off going for an efficient buck driver over changing the LED. Linear drivers are pretty inefficient, moreso than the difference taking the red out of the light spectrum will do.
@300ZCorradoVR6Z
@300ZCorradoVR6Z Год назад
@@mikafoxx2717 This is for an S2+ 18350, I'm not aware of any 17mm buck driver for the S2+. Both of the emitters I mentioned should have a higher OTF output for a given A. Eventually I'll most likely end up getting the XPL-HI 5000K. I'm planing to build another S2+ 18350 with Simon's new boost driver and XHP50.3 HI when Simon releases the new Ti version and driver.

@@DarrenYeoYT Thanks for the work you put into this video! 😀Is it possible to correct and update the video description? It's very confusing. The video description still says "culpm1" at two different spots. Is the video description or this comment the definite answer? I guess this comment because judging by the beamshots the culpm1 should be brighter and more powerful - but not sure because on video you never know the real brightness and also camera settings. Perhaps it takes way too long to read through video description and then through all the comments to find the second last comment at the bottom of the page with more information? Other from that: Thanks for the review of this small "thrower"! 👍

Nice flashlight, thanks for the review man ! I think it's better to use an adapter if someone wants to use them smaller battery... plus i think it's better in general to change the batteries out of the flashlight with an external charger, even if it had built in charg system, it might cost a little bit more for an extra charger and probably a second battery, but in a long run we will be the best choice... ! Just my opinion, Thanks !
@DarrenYeoYT
@DarrenYeoYT Год назад
Thanks Tartara, is it safer you think to charge it outside of the light? I do that these days as I can see the voltage and stats of the battery on my external charger. And yes you're right, an adapter will be ideal.

@@DarrenYeoYT For me personal yes , i prefer to not put any "stress - pressure" on my devices - chips, especially when i see them like tools, i have only two flashlights and i like to take care of them ! Example : I have a 80$-€ flashlight, for me there is no reason to drive all this current through the chip for the the time that is charging, i prefer to save it when i will really need it and i will not have another option... ! I'm somewhere up to 10years with Li-ion batteries and my external charger and i never had any issues ! Plus if any battery does not perform as it should, i put it away and im good to go ! Again, it's just my opinion and how i like to treat my gear !

It's no big deal, but I'd argue the S21B is the super sized version of the S3, while the S21A is the oversized parallel to the S2+. Like the S3, the S21B has an integrated shelf rather than a pill, and ridges rather than diamond knurling; meanwhile the S21A has both knurling and pill assembly.

There are so many man. I keep changing them around. But lately it's been the Wurkkos FC12/Nitecore P23i. Basically I aim for high candela and brightness in a smaller body, with sustained lumens if possible.
