He started as a rock singer with this song, but went to country music which he preferred. I used to laugh at my neighbor because she loved him. Boy, was I wrong. I love his stuff now.
Several months before Conway passed away, my brother and I met him at a local grocery store in Hendersonville, TN. Although it was the middle of the night, Conway was holding a hand basket and picking up milk and other items. As we were checking out, we noticed Conway standing right next to us. As we patiently waited (he knew we were wanting his autograph), he kindly smiled and signed! I told my brother now that is a celebrity with class! I'll never forget that moment!
You can literally see this man put everything he has into singing this song. Such a classic by one of my favorite country singers of all time. They don't make music like this anymore.
I am 70 years of age and have heard a great many excellent " Covers " of this great song.I have heard Conway sing this throughout his singing Career and have to say that he sang it better, as he grew older. Some songs are made to cover and some artists do it better than was done originally but, This was a " Signature song " and no-one, nobody did, or could, do it better than the great Conway Twitty ! This was a breath taking Vocal delivery ! db
He sang from his heart right up until the end! I had tickets to see him in March 1993. The morning I found out he passed, I was wearing a 'night shirt" from one of his concerts. I still have it...It says 'Hello Darlin' "I'd love to lay you down'. Miss you so much Conway...thank you for being such an impact.
I am 71 and jitterbug to this with my wife and only if the volume is extremely high. Usually play it a minimum of 4 times before going to the next song.
was/am a metal head....but this guy kills. a tremendous talent. this song alone blows away 90% of "entertainers" the world over. what a loss....what a voice
I saw Conway in the late 70's. The best concert I ever saw. He came on with a bang, interacted with the audience, and everyone loved him. He almost blew the roof off the coliseum. I saw him again in the early 90's, shortly before his death. He didn't talk or react. His singing was impeccable as usual, but no interaction with the audience. I was let down to say the least. Later I saw an interview with him by Ralph Emery, who asked him about not talking during concerts. Conway replied the song was what is important, not him. People come to hear the song, and his interpretation of it. He said a song sang correctly can reach deep inside and grab a person's emotions and have an impact. He said he stopped talking because the song was what was important, not him. It was his humility that made him stop talking, not arrogance.
To beansie5493, BRAVO! That's why music gets into your heart and soul. My Ipod has this plus many other country hits. But can switch to journey, the boss u name it! I think music is so very very special. Always in my heart! Thanks for posting
He's in the final inning of a hardworking life here. The voice has roughened and darkened over time from smoking, his only vice that he managed to conquer in 1985; his signature song has been transposed down a bit to fit the final range of his remarkable voice. The band drags Twitty down with a lagging tempo at the overly-dramatic beginning, but with a few curt nods to the side he lights a fire under the band and they are off and....well....walking. Because this is a slow, bluesy swing ballad, his signature song, and nobody does it better than Conway Twitty. Perhaps you must be from the south and been to your share of real, spirit-driven tent revivals to really recognize what's happening here from the halfway point on. Look at his body language; it took his entire life to be as free as he is here. Conway Twitty is on fire with the spirit, utterly possessed by the music of hopeless love, testifying to all who are feeling or have felt the same way. The ringing high notes are still there, but a heart-rending hoarseness and passion give him the sound of a fallen angel pleading for redemption with time running out. And time did run out soon after for him. This is my favorite rendition of Conway's signature song because it's the most raw, human, broken version. It's utterly beautiful to me. And I bet God Himself couldn't resist Conway's getting whatever he wanted as long as he sang his request!
This is just good music, Kathy. Between Twitty's emotional delivery and the crackerjack band behind him, this song and performance defies classification.
Me & my mama went on a tour of his Tweety shop and his home, very long time ago, When I was just a lil girl to Twitty City, seen his house, children the whole nine. What makes me mad & so sad is this man IT bk in the day, made million of $ hit song one after the other. Passed away with nothing. Family fighting over everything. Now there is literally nothing left. But memories & what few items us fans has left. Smh...You still number 1... 💯💯✝️✝️🙌🙌✝️✝️
We saw Wayne Newton a few years ago in Vegas, and no doubt he's losing his voice to sing. It was amazing to see him, and he's a true gentleman and an icon.
I saw Conway and Loretta in concert in 1976 .. Conway still had His pompadour hairdoo .. it was an awesome show and both of them sat at the edge of the stage after the show until everyone who wanted.. got an autograph
@@loissarachman9562 I saw Conway and Loretta back in 1976 (I'm dating myself) when I was 13 in Duluth MN .. My Dad and future step-Mom (dad was dating) took me knowing I was a big fan... even though Dad hated country music.. he wore ear plugs but pretended to like it .LOL I loved it!
best looking and best" GROWLIN" man i have ever seen in my life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Im 63 and have never ever loved any man like i did and still do in my life. R.I. P .CONWAY. Luv u forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
pretty amazing how much of himself he put into this song during this performance, even after singing it countless times over almost 40 years... he was singing for all he was worth here.. i wish i would have seen him perform.
It is so funny my MOM loved Conway, she would sit for hours and listen to him and Ms. Lynn and now I find myself to will come to youtube and listen on behalf of her , god how much I miss her 3/10/2010.
I got to meet Conway and Ronnie McDowall after a concert back in the 80s. My boyfriend at the time was a DJ for brand new country channel which was exploding with popularity back then. They were both down to earth and great singers, Conway will always be my favorite country singer
How can you not get chills hearing him sing … who was it that he loved so much but could never have … its hard to believe he didnt feel the words that he was singing …
My mom was obsessed with this man. She would swoon when he'd sing "Hello Darlin." This song happens to fit my situation with a smart lovely young lady.
If everyone put his heart into their music as Conway did, maybe we would have a lot more famous singers. That being said, to me there will never be a better male singer than Conway, I am 55 and he is still just about all I listen to. Him and of course Loretta Lynn. Whoever, put them together for duets sure knew what they were doing. Loretta Lynn is the best female Country singer ever. As was said about Conway, (The best friend a song ever had) they sure got it right...
I had to take a breath for him. How he sings so clear after not taking a breath that long is beyond me! I will always love this man's music! I'll also never forget getting a kiss on my cheek from him at a Po Folks Restaurant so many years ago.
my favorite............I feel him singing this all the way down to the tips of my toes. Rest in peace, Conway. Thank you for this Classic. I am crying listening to you.
I love this song by Conway Twitty it makes me sad everytime I here it but the words r so meaningful and so true how could 105 people not like this song I'm assuming u don't like Conway Twitty or u don't appreciate good music .
Seeing a powerful performer like Mr. Twitty makes me want to take singing lessons. Man, the emotions that can be conveyed through sounds is amazing. Words are wind when music can be so spiritually enlightening, but hey, Conway's got great lyrics to boot!
Man alive, Family Guy can make fun of you all they want Conway, but damn no one else can do this with all of the combined power and subtlety you bring. I was a valet at the hotel around the corner from the Ryman the day of your funeral and I'll always regret not coming by to see you and say goodbye.
I love Conway Twitty!!! I went to several of his concerts & did he put on a show. He got out there & he sang his heart out. Never said a word to the audience. Wish he was still around so I could see him one more time!!! He has a way with words no other one has had. Love his music & could listen to him all day long or all night long. I cried when I found out he had died. Just couldn't believe it...........it was sudden & so fast. He will live on in my heart!!! And his music will live on & on as other people love it too!! Love you Conway!!!
He had such an amazing voice no one could sing the songs like conway could. R.I.P Conway Thanks for all the great songs & music you left us. You will never ever be forgotten.
Conway Twitty was by far one of the greatest vocal talents in country music history. This proves it as he was in his late 50's and near death here! His live performances always topped his studio ones
The way he pulled it out of himself to pull off those hard notes to hit at his age was amazing sounded like the record!! AMAZING!! Such an incredible voice!!
