Cooking “purple rice”

As a korean I get tired of eating this type of rice. In korea all moms make these types of rice because they are good for your health.

In my place in india we usually use black rice for dessert like puddings less for normal consumption. There is another rice which is more common to us called Himalayan red rice , my mom told that they used to eat red rice daily and white rice occassionally but now things have changed we use white rice for normal dishes and red rice for special dishes , surprisingly how things get changed in 20- 25 yers

I'm from Peru and at my house we make "purple rice" by adding a sort of black olive puree to the rice when it's cooking. I don't know if it's a local recipe but it's really good and we usually eat it on christmas

my mom does this, and she adds in lentils too! then she adds canned coconut milk, salt, and indian curry powder all to taste. it's really good and a great budget meal haha

my middle school best friend's mom is korean and she always had purple rice in the rice cooker. i'd come over after school and she would make us bowls of rice and cook us korean bbq on her tabletop grill 🤍 purple rice always makes me so nostalgic and happy!

I love black rice. In my culture we also make porridge out of it. Black rice on its own is very chewy and sticky and I love it a lot. Especially the cakes made of black rice🤤🤤🤤🤤

Without salt, just try it with sugar. Just add some sugar on the top. We always do that and it tastes really good

at home we mix half white/half dark rice to get that soft texture without that rice bran taste but still makes you full quicker unlike plain white rice.. helps when you wanna cut down on the amount of rice you eat..

Back about 7 years ago, i used to make pink-purple rice sushi. I loved the color. The vinegar makes it more pink.

I love that shade of purple... LasT time I had purple rice was it was wrapped in steamed banana leaves last time I was in the Philippines and wrapped like triangles, it's definitely one of my more favorite snacks.... I could eat a whole baggy of those snacks 👀

Korean here. Make a sunny side up, add 1tbsp light soysauce and sesame oil each. Mix it with thr purple rice. The most common and easy korean meal prepared!!

Yeah, in Philippines we have a natural purple rice. And it taste good, we also have yellow rice, blue rice, black rice and brown rice.

Oooo I didn't know koreans eat purple rice too. Where I am from we call it sticky rice. There is a course rice grain that is purple/black in color that you soak in water which makes the water a milky purple color. Then we add a type of rice called "Sweet Rice" into the soaking rice bath for 3-4 hours. Then we steam it. The rice comes out very sticky, chewy, and soft, but the purple grains have a harder texture and provides that extra twist.

Yes a bit of salt sprinkled on top is perfect! (Something chunky like kosher salt) Also black sesame seeds is also very yummy sprinkled on top (or both! Haha)

Is it forbidden rice mixed in? Forbidden rice is basically black when uncooked and when it's fully cooked you can cut one open and it has a dark, dark, purple color.

You can find “purple rice” in most Asian store. They are call rice berry. Usually comes in vacuum seal package … from thailand.

My husband and I tried the purple rice by accident. And by accident I mean, we went to Malaysian chain Korean restaurant, Dubuyo to try out Korean food. And instantly fell in love of course. I love purple rice. Korean place near me sells it and I actually like it more than regular rice. You're right, it has a different texture than regular rice, it doesn't really taste much different than regular rice though. Maybe very slightly different. But I hear it's healthier for u, and if nothing else it's just more interesting to eat. I get it with this Korean style bbq pork belly dish 🤤🥰

I love purple rice

I have been adding forbidden rice to my rice for years and different kinds of rice in general..... I have been looking into the different Korean rice mixes for now doing a mix of white and brown rice and forbidden rice.

Here in Thailand there is a breed of rice called “Rice Berry” taste quite nice, color is dark purple and it pops while you chew it… a bit more chewy than jasmine rice ..
