We need more Mr Wizards in the world. you can really see he enjoyed doing that TV show and helping people learn, he certainly did not do that show for the money.

Mr. Wizard wouldn't last in today's culture. We need to get rid of the Democrats and the femenists first. Then we need two parent homes again so our offspring can be raised in an atmosphere of positive creativity and free thinking.

I did this for show-and-tell once in 2nd grade. The fun thing is that because it was the 1980s, THEY LET ME. XD

It would if you're in Europe. In the US they only put 115v through the AC, and you only leave it plugged in for 3 or 4 seconds.

He has disappointingly high faith in that switch. If that switch malfunctioned without unplugging it he would have 120V across his hands!

I made a hot dog cooker this way once. It was just two nails through a board with a cord attached. There was one flaw: the ends of the dog beyond the nails did not get hot.

I saw this experiment in an early 1960s episode of Mr Wizard. I think he was using a car battery for the voltage source. Later in the show, he showed another way to cook the hot dog. He put it on a paper plate, wrapped in a paper napkin, and put it in an 'oven'. At this point his young assistant exclaimed: No! It will burn!. We had never seen a microwave oven before. (they called them 'radar ranges' back then)

I can't seem to find the 1960s version. It's a little puzzling, as a car battery is only 12 volts. Based on the 1985 demonstration, I'm guessing the hot dog had an approximate resistance of around 75Ω - 120Ω. Approximate wattage is 192 W at 120V, if we assume the low end of that resistance range. (I'm applying DC ohm's law and AC RMS might throw the numbers off a little.) 12 volts applied to the same hot dog, assuming the same low end range resistance gives us 1.92 Watts, and what I would assume would be barely enough to take the hot dog above ambient room temperature after an extended period of time. Perhaps he cut them into small pieces or had them on larger metal pieces. That would change the conductor characteristics. That's the cool thing about science, it's all factual.

Probably not a marshmallow. At least not easily. The hotdog has enough water and electrolytes to conduct electricity.

Back in 1988 me and my friends gave 2 forks and a battery to the guy that lived outside behind the vending machine factory so he could cook his food. He said he only needed spoons and then he stole Falzo's bike.
