What I believe happens in these episodes is that Nicole just has everything planned out prior, but Josh just enters into the kitchen and whatever first idea comes into his mind he goes with it😂
Cream of tartar is an acid that crystalizes on the bottom of wine barrels. It's used when you want to add acid to something without changing the flavor. It's used here to help coagulate the protein in egg whites to make them whip faster.
And it's in baking powder to provide the acid required to neutralise the bicarbonate of(baking) soda to produce the CO2 bubbles. Baking soda is used if the recipe already has enough acid to neutralise it (lemon juice, brown sugar, etc.)
It was also the first molecule shown to be tetrahedral and led to the discovery that molecules are 3 dimensional, after Louis Pastuer discovered that the lab made Potassium Bitartrate he made to counter the high cost of wine-derived Cream of Tartar turned out to be slightly different in shape than it’s natural counterpart.
i feel like Josh could do the cursed foods from The Good Place way better than Babish did i also feel like the complex philosophical interrogations in The Good Place would make Josh melt away like a vampire pelted with holy water balloons
That's kinda what I was thinking. Nicole's looked like a normal food with a subtle reference to peeps. Meanwhile Josh looks like he fully understood the assignment and ran with it, despite the risks.
This episode was super entertaining and fun, but just a bit of constructive criticism, the cuts between Nicole and josh were a bit harsh a lot of the time, so I would recommend putting the person reacting in the corner, like you did at 10:34. The cut to the full shot of the other person works fine when they talk for a while, but it's a bit much for short comments in my opinion. I still loved the episode but it would have made it a little easier to watch :) sorry if any of this came off as aggressive or rude, this is all meant with love
Completely agree, it was actually starting to annoy me. Three four times is cool but a comment on every other sentence is distracting, I actually couldn't follow what they were doing in the kitchen
There are a lot of opinions on the cutaway bits, so here's mine: the frequency of them just felt like there was this idea that the other person needed to commentate on almost everything the one cooking said, even when there was really nothing to say. I never minded the "confession booth" gag in older videos, and I do like Josh and Nicole ribbing each other's recipes when competing, but this video would benefit from cutting a lot of them. Example: Josh talks about shot-put. Nicole: "Josh is talking about shot-put again." Didn't feel like that bit had to be there.
I do appreciate that they're trying stuff And I thought it would be good at the beginning of the video when they first started doing it But yeah no Fair idea, maybe wonky execution? Reactions are making a big comeback, but not like this.
Josh's pizza reminds me of the description of Todd's clown-dentist business: "a cotton candy nightmare of Freudian invention that shakes one to the core"
I absolutely love Nicole. She's incredible, I have a massive crush on her. But the cutting back and forth with witty quips every 1.7 seconds while Josh is cooking is really irritating.
You guys don’t have to like everything they do, so I say just pass on the series, let them experiment creatively like they want to, and everyone’s happy 😊
@@voyager1568 You do realize that they want to know when people don't like something, right? You think we should just let them keep making their videos worse and lose viewership? What is wrong with you?
I busted out laughing so hard when Josh said Nicole puts egg wash on her face and sits in the parking lot with tinfoil which is why her skin is so good.
Yeah I think so. Both together should watch back and comment as they go. It's really disjointed with one person interjecting every two seconds. I don't know. Maybe just not my thing. Still fun tho. I like content
@@samwil212 yeah when they banter back and forth, it’s funny. When it’s just Nicole commenting alone it makes her sound judgmental and angry. I’m pretty sure that wasn’t their intent but that’s what it makes me feel. I think they used to do this style video more when they started this channel but I haven’t seen it in a while. I’m okay if it goes away again lol
@@hideyourloveaway128 i don’t think she means it seriously. it’s just banter between two friends. but the way this was edited by only showing her rude remarks on every little thing josh says makes it unenjoyable and really puts a damper on things
Nicole just got publicly shamed. OMG there was absolutely no way Josh should have won with that pizza, but he was totally right. Nicole you must fight your instinct and run towards, and not away from the food crime.
if she had followed the brief as it was a peeps pizza and I notice the last few times she not followed the brief and avoided using the crime ingredient - where Josh goes mad with it lol
The answer was in front of her the entire time. Make the peeps into a mascarpone cheese to add to her already cheesy dish. Also either larger chunks of glazed ham or the ham as presented and some pepperoni to evoke pizza more.
I wonder if it is possible to get MORE jump cuts? I feel like we're getting shorted a good dozen or so. More jump cuts, less fluidity! Yay, jump cuts! (Insert sound of '80s hair band guitar riff here...and a jump cut!)
Just adding my comment to the “commentary style doesn’t work” camp. The snarkiness feels really forced and uncomfortable, and I mourn for the supreme chaos we could have had if Josh and Nicole were collaborating on a peepza.
I disagree. I think the snarkiness is exactly correct, especially after all the hotdog is a sandwich podcasts I've listened to (which is every single one of them). This was much MUCH more organic than you give it credit. And I loved the style used here.
Episodes with Josh and Nicole are always some of my favorites because I love the juxtaposition of their wildly different personalities, and it's fun to see just how differently they tackle challenges like this!
Watching Josh cooking his blue monstrosity had me crying with laughter! There’s a reason you don’t see blue things on menus…. Nicole, excellent chef though she is, didn’t embrace the horror of peeps. She deserves ridicule, shaming and shunning for not submitting to their lurid charm. All in all I don’t care who won - one of the funniest cooking videos I’ve seen!
Not sure if the Nicole narration is helpful in this episode…you guys should make a series in which Nicole and Josh watches old Mythical Kitchen videos and react to them. However, my smol brain can’t comprehend Josh cooking and somebody reacting at the same time.
I would prefer if she were either there in person or was in a picture in picture thing most the time because the cutting back and forth felt like too many cuts just to hear her commentary.
Love Nicole. Hate the interrupting style they tried here. Totally understand trying to find new ways to edit videos and keep people engaged, but this sucked.
This format would work great as a "Josh goes to x" adventure or challenge. and probably far less cuts back and forth. I like the rippin' on josh feature though. classic banter.
Absolutely agree. Love Nichole, but the constant cuts made this unwatchable for me. 3:59 was the point I stopped the video and decided to just skip this one.
I actually really love the commentary lol. I guess they could just use the overlay more to make it more like a reaction video instead of cutting between between the two and interrupting the flow.
Every time they do an episode with all these cutaways a quarter of the comments are about people hating it but they apparently don't care because they keep doing it.
Thank God Josh made an innuendo out of “sharing the ham”. As soon as she said it my innuendo gland activated, and I knew Josh was experiencing the same sensation.
@@williamsmith00 i was able to get to 8 minutes this time! it really is upsetting though because i love this channel, especially josh and not being able to watch him talk and cook is sad. also, the way she’s belittling him constantly puts a damper on things
I was thinking they need even less of Nicole and more of Trevor. Nicole is boring and won't commit to the challenges. Her dish didn't even have peeps on it. she just melted the peeps into sugar and made a glaze.
"How are you in charge of me?" That's a question I ask about my own boss all the time. For context, this is the man who was whipping around on the forklift, pedal to the metal, talking on a cell phone, while carrying a 1,200 pound filtration unit on the forks. I have no idea why or how he's still alive. I have more stories.
155. There are 155 cuts to the other person in this 29 min video. Plus all the picture in picture comments that I didn't even count. What the hell. 81 cuts to Nicole while Josh is cooking. 56 cuts to Josh while Nicole is cooking. 18 cuts to Josh and Nicole while Mike is judging. These last cuts are a little more understandable.
The f they’re gonna jump in this much it needs to be an overlay or something like a face cam while lowering the main audio. The current set up is very aggravating.
I've been commenting for a year now about them opening up a restaurant. Where everything on the menu is something the guys tasted and liked it. And that's a lot of food. Good Mythical KITCHEN.
Nicole doesn't seem to follow the spirit of the challenge and hides the main ingredient behind tons of other ingredients, while josh puts the main ingredient in the foreground so you know what it is.
Please post a version of this without Nicole giving commentary & just include Nicole in person next time! The cuts are driving me INSANE I love Nicole and it’s nothing against her at all but I cannot stand the back and forth
Nicole turned this into Josh's official comedy roast special, right out the gate 😂 "Trash raccoon... Oh my gosh, he likes it" "Actin' like he's at a wine tasting" "OoOhHh. _Suuper_ artisanal. Peeps and bacon jam..." "Josh is talking about shotput again. _love_ when that happens..." "He's disappointed in himself. YESS."
@@hideyourloveaway128 Tbh I usually feel that way about her prissiness (big Josh & Emily fan) But it was def played for laughs, calling her out for being cowardly with gross mashups (there's nothing appetizing about peeps on pizza)
It's like with food fears, how Josh would lean into the flavour palate of a gross ingredient, making the final dish taste good without masking the original flavour... I feel like Josh takes a similar philosophy here and leans hard into the fundamental aspects of the food crime. While yes, it means he ends up making an unholy abomination of a food crime. It's at least a tastier food crime than the one they started with.
i appreciate that he switched the elements around. the peep-coloured meringue on top was savory and the sauce was peep. it's actually brilliant in its chaos.
I feel like that's the spirit of the show! Not to make something unrelated that tastes good, that's easy, the challenge is to turn the original gross thing into something good without making it unrecognizable
@@hideyourloveaway128 ....and Josh isn't? They're clearly just messing with each other, and if not, it's just a goofy ass show where they put pickles into Snickers, who cares if they get a little competitive?
The format really doesn't work. Have them be together and have that normal chaotic energy. The cutaways feel too scripted and don't honestly seem like something they might honestly say, especially Nicoles segments since she doesn't seem that needlessly negative normally, so either removing them or making them more natural and less frequent IMO seems the best way forward.
The only way peeps are edible are when roasted over a camp fire like a normal marshmallow. It crystallizes the sugar & makes a glassy crunchy casing. Yum
