Newportland is in Maine, about halfway between Canada and Bangor only about 700 people live there and every. One of them could show you where the old wire bridge is located.
This wire bridge is the only one of its kind left in Maine, very likely. The only one left in the United States. Not a 100% sure, but pretty sure. The origins of the bridge are hazy. Some say it was built-in 1860s. Some say it was built in the eighteen forties.
It's a really cool place to stop. Take photos and enjoy everything. Listen to the water, run to check out. The fall foliage leaves in the fall.
Just imagine the 150 years of horses. Model t's carriages pickups trucks. Everything in between that's gone over that bridge.
