We lost Eddie Rabbit too soon. He was a great man. At the time his career was just taking off his son was diagnosed with cancer. Against his management advice he took a year off. He put his family first. That speaks volumes about the man.

Eddie was as good of a songwriter as Kenny Rogers and Lionel Ritchie. "Step by Step," "Every Which Way But Loose," "Suspicious," and "Gone Too Far," are just a few of his great songs. I'm so sorry about your cousin! My dad took a ditch to keep from killing an old lady in small car who pulled out in front of him. He was hauling a flatbed of steel. The truck jack-knifed and the flatbed went up over the cab. It took a tow truck on either side of the truck 29 minutes to pull the cab apart enough to get his body out. So, I understand how you feel... ❤️😪 I am glad, though, that this song brings back happy memories for you! 😊

I worked in security at a dinner theater for a few years in the mid 80s. I was guarding the back door to the theater one day, and in walks Eddie Rabbit, all by himself. He extends his hand and says, "Hi! I'm Eddie". We proceed to have a ten, fifteen minute chat about this and that. He was even interested in the paperback book I was reading. By far the friendliest, most outgoing performer of any type that I encountered there.

Eddie Rabitt is one of my all-time favorite country artists. I remember going to the Florida State Fair back in 1991 with my husband. He has never been much of a music fan (except an occasional song by Johnny Cash or Merle Haggard). The day we went Eddie Rabbitt was performing. I told him I didn't care what he did, but I was going to the show. The show was free with admission to the fair, and I was NOT going to miss it. He could either go with me or wander around the fair by himself. Either way, I was going ! Well, he decided he'd better go , since we might not find each other when it was over. Eddie put on such a great show, and since it was to be the last one of evening, he stayed on for an extra 30 minutes ! The crowd was thrilled, with the possible exception of my husband. He did admit later that "he was pretty good." Yes, he certainly was. I was heartbroken when he passed away.😢 Much too young. RIP, Eddie

It's almost impossible to suggest a line dance song because there were just certain songs as they came out that there would be a line dance that we get popular with it and it was the thing for the time. And it was always extremely specific to that particular song, even though it was always built on some of the same components. The perfect foundation for that though which is so fun, is of course the two-step, which you mentioned, and this is really one of those perfect two step songs. It's not too fast, it's not too slow. I encourage you to do it tonight or whenever you read this comment. Put this song on on repeat and just try it guys. If you decide you like it, look up the 10 step, the 20 step, and the Cotton-Eyed Joe. These are dances that people typically do in circles as partners, and once you learn the steps, you will be able to do basically any line dance that is thrown your way. But mostly it's just because it's fun. But I cannot imagine doing it without boots. In fact, some of those dances involve stomping your boots on the floor in unison on certain steps with everybody on the floor, and it's part of the fun to make all that noise. 😀

Eddie Rabbitt was an excellent pop-country singer, much like Kenny Rogers. His upbeat songs were a lot of fun, but be sure to get to his ballads at some point. "You and I" was a duet with Crystal Gayle, and so sweet that it was used in many wedding ceremonies back in the early '80s. Another hit, "Suspicions," is a smooth, soulful song that doesn't sound like anything else he ever did. You would greatly enjoy both of these. Very sad that we lost Eddie so young.

Speaking of Crystal Gayle, give a listen sometime to her 1977 crossover pop country hit "Don't It Make My Brown Eyes Blue." Just a lovely swaying tune, short but sweet.

Love this song. I know this might sound funny, but I always thought this had a Traveling Wilburys vibe to it. The way Eddie sings is very Jeff Lynne-ish.

That's exactly who I thought of when I heard the Traveling Wilburys, too. Also, Bob Dylan's Subterrean Homesick Blues"-his video with the cue cards.

This song brought back some good memories. There was a time when two stepping was very popular and my cousin and I would hit all the country bars here in southern California. Just to name a few there was Denim and Diamonds, Cowboy Boogie, The Silver Bullet (where they filmed the bar scene in Thelma and Louise) and DJ ranch that was just a mile away form The Silver Bullet. At DJ Ranch we would do what is called the broom dance. Everyone would two step in a circle while one lonely sole would dance in the center with a broom. When the music would stop (like in musical chairs) all the guys would run to the opposite side of the circle and grab a new partner, the broom dancer would drop the broom and also grab a partner, the last guy without a partner would have to pick up the broom and so on. Imagine a bar full of people plied with alcohol running into each other in the center of the dance floor. The bar was always packed and everyone would participate, good times.

Two of my favorites for line dance, both by Travis Tritt. One is Trouble, the other is Burning love (which is an Elvis cover, of a cover of Arthur Alexander who released it slightly earlier the same year).

Eddie is 80s country. The 80s and 90s had a lot of great country music with wide appeal. Another good up tempo country song from that era like this is “The Race is On” by Sawyer Brown.

Eddie Rabbit was a COMPLETELY underrated artist. Saw him in concert in the late 80's. Guy played nearly every instrument at some point during the show. Incredible talent. If you want to do more I suggest Step By Step.

So glad you discovered Eddie Rabbitt. One of the great country-pop crossover artists of the early 1980's, along with Kenny Rogers, Juice Newton, Dolly Parton, etc. Since you've done "I Love A Rainy Night", you may try his other big hits "Step By Step" and his duet with Crystal Gayle, "Just You And I".

He and and other country artist named Crystal Gayle had some duets together. You could touch on her some if you want. Don’t make my brown eyes blue and talking in your sleep are some good song to try. EDIT: If you read this I’m still waiting for you to react to Jonny Lang and his song Lie to Me.
