What is the Difference between CoolSculpting and SculpSure for non-surgical body contouring?
Dr. Craig Schwartz of Premier Vein & Body by Schwartz, located in Kansas City, explains 5 key differences between the 2 non-invasive body contouring treatments, as well as why he prefers SculpSure to CoolSculpting, which he has offered since it first hit the market in 2010.
Over the last 5 years, CoolSculpting has grown to be the world’s most popular non-surgical treatment for fat reduction. However, with the recent introduction of SculpSure, there is now another FDA approved device to permanently remove unwanted fat without surgery or needles, leaving many patients wondering “which one is better?”
First of all, they do have some similarities:
Both SculpSure and CoolSculpting are:
o FDA approved for the permanent removal of fat with minimal downtime
o Non-invasive, which means no surgery, scarring or needles
o Best for treating small pockets of diet, such as love handles or the stomach
o Effective in reducing up to 25% of fat in desired area with each treatment
But this is where the similarities end.
There are 5 very important differences worth noting:
#1: The type of energy used:
CoolSculpting relies on “fat freezing” technology to disrupt the fat cells, while SculpSure uses laser energy that, literally, melts the fat cells.
#2: Time Duration
One CoolSculpting cycle takes 1 full hour, where as SculpSure is only a 25 minute procedure. You can, literally, come in on your lunch hour and return to work.
#3: Versatility:
The CoolSculpting machine has a single handpiece, so just one area can be treated at a time. The SculpSure machine has 4 handpieces, providing the ability to treat multiple areas at the same time. For example, with CoolSculpting, treating both love handles would take 2 separate cycles for a total of 2 hours, but with SculpSure, we can treat both love handles in one 25 minute session by dividing the 4 handpieces and placing 2 on one side, and 2 handpieces on the other side. But it’s versatile for larger areas, too, as we just use all 4 handpieces in the same area.
#4: The Ouch Factor:
CoolSculpting uses criolypolisis, or fat freezing, along with very intense suction between 2 cooling plates on the applicator. This suction often causes painful side affects such as pain, bruising, swelling, numbness, tingling and even some nodularities in the treated area. The SculpSure device is a much gentler treatment and involves absolutely no suction; the handpiece simply lays flat on top of the tissue while the energy penetrates, disrupting the fat cells.
#5: The Added Benefit of Skin Tightening
SculpSure’s laser energy stimulates the production of both collagen and elastin, resulting in tighter, smoother skin in the treated area. As the fat cells are destroyed and naturally eliminated, the skin will contract down with it, resulting in smoother more supple skin.
In Conclusion
• The ability to get the same or better results in less than half the time, and reduce fat in multiple areas in one cycle, while avoiding the painful side affects of CoolSculpting makes SculpSure my preferred choice for non-surgical fat reduction.
