During a time when animator Ralph Bakshi was at his peak, this film debuted with much controversy and only later did it recieve praise. Banned from theaters, television, and unreleased officially on DVD.
I think that these things on the sides of his head are his ears, he would look more like a fox if these things were fur and his ears were at the top of his head, but these character are meant to look more like racial caricatures than the animals they represent.
WORD!! Thats dope yo, makes me wanna make more. But yea this movie is great, pretty much all of Ralph Bakshi movies are great. This one just happened to be my top 3
What was so important about the Godfather's clown being in that scene?! Why are they just standing there instead of at least saying "thank you"?! Why does this scene remind me of the hippie girls from Fritz the Cat?!
It reminds you because it's a parody on social tolerance. Some people want to embrace it and accept it because it's new and hop and fascinating but don't truly understand the culture or it's struggles. Others merely pretend to tolerate differences because they have to, even if deep down they either don't care or have their own prejudices.
This is a movie that used racist tropes to deliver an anti-racist message. It's so clear in scenes like this that Bakshi understood different types of anti-black racism, especially this condescending "liberal" kind.
