I test my old claw (grappling) hook style anchor verse my new 1.5 Kg. / 3.5 lbs. Cooper Anchor (Black). I show both sizes, how they fit in my jet ski, and try both out around 25 ft. and 2-3 ft. Was it worth me upgrading? Let me know in the comment section down below, and don't forget to SUBSCRIBE!!!

Thanks for the review. I gotta get an anchor soon.

Move everything to the 1st anchor. The chain and rope setup is great.
@s0nnyburnett
@s0nnyburnett 2 года назад
The grapnel anchor also needs a few feet of chain to work properly. I've tried it with and without chain and without chain most anchors will pull up easily.

Think the black plastic 1.5kg cooper is a newer and improved design compared to the blue 1kg Cooper , I've got both , the black one I've owned about 4 years and holds my 14 foot heavy poly boat anchored on sand in shallow water with onshore winds over 15kts with no issues, waves breaking over the bow more of an problem than worrying about the anchor dragging . I'd guess about half of the weight of the anchor is the lead inserted in the tip , easy to see it , it's not hidden. Had the blue cooper for over 7 years , tend to only use the blue cooper in very light conditions , usually as a stern anchor to stop the boat swinging on the main anchor . Even have an older 2.2lg aluminum cooper ,, my first cooper anchor but honestly i reckon the 1.5kg plastic one works better . Plastic anchors are much easier on fibreglass hulls , lot less likely to damage your jetski while it's stored away in that locker.

Some great insight..and yes with the fiberglass ski and inflatable boat plastic did seem like the better option. I have yet to once be disappointed with this anchor. Any struggle was mine own like not enough length on my rope, becuse this thing grabs it all!**SK**

Typo on with old aluminium cooper anchor , it's 2.2 KG ,. so about 4.8 lb They don't make size anymore , the 1.5kg on the video replaced it.

So when you have a bigger anchor you have the probability of it getting lodged therefore making it harder to retrieve. At the first anchor test it looked like it was lodged in the rocks, how tough was it to retrieve sk? Also may want to look into the zip tied anchor trick Wich basically helps in case it's lodge pretty good in some cases..
@SKLIFEstyle
@SKLIFEstyle 2 года назад
It was lodged so well and yet took just a bit of actual strength to pull it right up. And that was being lazy and not moving the ski at all.**SK**

Thank you for the review. I’ve been looking at the cooper anchor. We use a metal fluke anchor but it bounces around too much. I took it out because I noticed it had put a bunch of dents in my fire extinguisher. That would’ve been a mess. What is the metal thing that’s on the anchor line? It looks like it says ratch hook on it? I want to get one of those.
@SKLIFEstyle
@SKLIFEstyle 2 года назад
Yea, whether in the trunk or in the hull just putting it down while trolling, a lot less chance of damage with this one. That metal thing is a Danik hook. I will be releasing a video on it soon. The link to buy in in the description box. Only lets the rope through one way when in use. So you can adjust your tie of point within a second. Really cool. Thanks for watching. Nice video, what's the chain diametern and lenght used on the Cooper 3.3 Lbs anchor test ? Have you tested the blue 2.2 Lb Cooper anchor as well ?
@SKLIFEstyle
@SKLIFEstyle 2 года назад
It's a 4 foot, stainless steel, 1/4 inch thick chain. I have not tested the blue one. I contemplated maybe getting that one for the other small boat we have but this works so rock solid hard to not want to just get another one of these if we need it. But the other boat would be half the weight so it may be okay. I know the blue is used a lot for skis, and with its reduced size easier to store. But the 100% feeling of knowing the 3.3. its over qualified to hold the ski in place is just such a peace of mind feeling...especially after a couple years of constan readjusting with a medicore anchor.**SK**

Thanks for the requested info. I own a 4.40 meter light Rib with a total weight of 500 Kg. which includes the boat, motor, fuel, beers and 2 passengers. Used to anchor it wery well with a small Seachoice 7E anchor and 1 meter 10 mm diam attached chain which got lost days ago.. The idea is to try the blue 2.2 Lb anchor with attached 1.5 mtr long 8 mm diam chain and a large 8 mm rope. Will be anchoring at roughly 5 meter calm beaches depths. Will let you know how it went. in case wanting to buy same for the less larger boats Regards from Peru...

Hey mate. Inshore you can get away with around 2Metres of chain for a 3.5Metre ski, and you want to accompany this with about a 4-1/5-1 ration of rope. So if you're anchoring in 2Metres of water youll want 8-10Metres of rope and 2Metres of chain for inshore, and increase that chain to 3.5Metres offshore. For a ski you can get away with 6mm S/L anchor chain but I personally use 8mm S/L gal chain. 8mm nylon non floating anchor rope. Don't forget that anchor sock to protect your hull from that chain!

Funny - I actually ordered just same anchor + size of rope for coming spear fish FX HO prior seing your video but with slightly heavier setup having 10ft 1/4" chain and with 150ft rope. I want to thank you about Daniak Hook - I order similar after seen your version, that looks good improvement! Really pleasure with its all to see that choise might actually work. I believe my worst would be anchoring up to 40feet at offshore-side-of-jetties-waves at "softsand + rocks" -bottom - Let see how it does. Please inform if you have found need to improve setup ... God speed for hobby, great clip!! PS: chain in film is nor galvanized but Stainless steel which makes it even better 👍

That's very interesting, sounds like you have a good plan, interested to know how it turns out. I have not changed a thing since upgrading, and have been thoroughly impressed. I have only pulled up and re-anchored out of sheer desire for a different spot in the water. I certainly think getting the slightly larger version was the way to go though. And yes, that Danik hook is so cool! I can't believe it took me this long to find out about it. I very much appreciate the feed back & correction 😉. Now I'm curious..I see the racing suit & see you're from Finland..what do you make of the this years F1 title fight, and overall season? And how do you feel about Bottas move to Alpha?**SK**

@@SKLIFEstyle Obvioysly all anchor have them good and bad but I really believe that such heavy duty -level -Cooper anchor can't be bad choise. Having rough-sea-fun won't get it thru hull never but as weak oint might small round stones or either very hard clay because its light weight/later on when relatively shoft material on nose is worn out compared to sharp-steel-blade -type competitor existing sharp longer ...if it turn to problem needs check later. I believe - theres no other sensible options for us; Ski rides at such size anchors to select over this one but note that I'm novice on anchoring. Trying here to study and very happy to see your happiness on film for it 🤙. Finnish - yeah, I'm stuck to motorsports as well even done much crazy sports in my life. Bottas is yuonger, I was racing with Kimi at young ages but note that even all Finnish does not get to F1. It's like druggs, made me build Timeattack toy that freaks out on road course and I'm fast as hell with it but ... life must be something else as well. Trying now to keep out from circuits while setteling down on GA US.

used the little red Cooper on my rib for years, best anchor ever by far.....the black model used here is way too big for a jetskis, the blue model would be plenty.

I may get the blue one too. Just got a new inflatable boat. Think I may keep the black one for the boat and blue one for the ski. At least just to save a little on storage for the ski. But yea I do think your right.**SK**

Hello. Yes, if you get you boat/pwc directly over the top and pull straight up, the anchor simply rotates and breaks the surface.

Hook the rope to the front hole and then tie a zip tie to the back. If it catches on a rock it will break the zip tie free and you’ll be able release

I guess ur not really moving at all when using that anchor and chain combo both of them are overkill for jetski haha I used the blue cooper and 1/4 chain size for my 13 foot whaler works perfectly fine here in peanut island

Lol, yea I may have gone a little overboard. I might order the blue one for our 12ft inflatable boat. So I can see the difference..maybe even swap and keep the smaller one for the ski. I probably should get on that as boating season is finally here 😅.**SK**

I bought 2 black coopers. What a complete waste of money. they just do not work in the silty muddy lake and river bottom in my area. I have tested the things in hundreds of locations and they never have held more than a few pounds of force anywhere. I bought a Mantus Dinghy anchor and the thing has been fool proof so far. Now I have two coopers I wasted about $250 on.
@SKLIFEstyle
@SKLIFEstyle 2 года назад
I did see the Mantis and they look like the Bently of small anchors, this more like a Benz, and still much better compared to what I had which I would classify as a scooter lol. Good to know the Mantis is legit though. Maybe someday in the future I will pick one up.**SK**

@@SKLIFEstyle I had so much hope for the Cooper anchors, now I try and tell as many people as I can about the Mantus. It is just not worth the damage one could incur by having the cooper release so easily or even worse losing your machine completely to current, especially if you were an ocean rider.

Hi vx Adentures. Im sorry to hear you've not had a great experience, we'd love to help you out. Send us an email with some questions and im sure we can help. Unfortunately the bottomless mud and silt in some waterways require a very specific design of anchor (surface area and weight) there are a few out there catering for this but the trade-off is weight and size and sacrificing performance in other areas.

@@CooperAnchors Great --> your web site does not even have a email address on it; but your terms and conditions section is 6 pages long. I am in Canada and the cost to ship these back to you just would not be worth it I bet. I guess I will let them sit and rot in my shop and maybe if they pee me off enough I will make some you tube videos about them vs the mantis which works flawlessly! I even spent extra money on the black coopers and they just do not work, even for my PWC when the Cooper literature says these black ones are good for 5m boats.
