Testing Australia's unique COOPER ANCHOR vs the Fluke style anchor I've been using.

I bought a plastic Cooper Anchor from Australia. Will the anchor stand up to the "sets in the shaft's length" claim boasted by the manufacturer? Is it worth the $$$ and my 3 week wait time from Down Under? (they are now available on Amazon) I take it and my current fluke anchor out to the beach for the test!

That's exactly what I was looking for. Have the same issue. My Anchor doesn't hold nothing... 😭. Just send a request. Hope that they ship to Spain 🇪🇸. Many thanks for sharing 👍 By the way.... My first ever beginners sailing dinghy will be here next week 🤗.

Let me know how the sailing dingy works out! These are amazing anchors, I was very impressed. really compact too compared to the clunky anchor I was using before! Thanks for the shout brother! Zig

I've got both the blue 1kg and 1.5kg black cooper anchors, I find the black amchor ( in this video ) holds very well in sand , best anchor I've used . I had the same problem with those crappy galvanized steel anchors just dragging on sand even though they are called " sand anchors " The holding power of the blue 1kg anchor isn't great , maybe good enough for a light aluminium 12 foot boat. But for an extra half a kg or 1.1 pounds of weight get the larger black plastic one.

no problem! been sailing all my life from the Med to the Great Lakes and the Gulf of Mexico. Even captained a few Lats and Atts TV episodes for the Magazine back in the day. use to write for a few sailing mags too My fav on my big boat was my Bruce. now I retired and down sized and found you guys. I have never seen an anchor set faster. Awesome design. I'm sure after the Texas 200 sail this June you will see a few orders. Texas 200 @facebook.com/groups/100346820013471

How 'bout comparing with a small plow/delta or Bruce anchor (although not plastic)?
@ZiggyLavengood
@ZiggyLavengood 2 года назад
yrs ago I got a Bruce for my 34 ft C&C and it was awesome. use to anchor for days at a time when weathered in. This cooper anchor reminds me of the Bruce in operation. I gifted the big ass Bruce to one of my subscribers in Corpus Christi last year. She says it's a beast, hehe. If I had a comparable sized plow type anchor to compare it to I would line them up on the beach for battle. This June we sail the Texas 22 run, That would be a good time to hold anchor dragging competitions with the other sailors. You have planted a seed......

I've had good luck with my fortress anchors, probably just a bad designed danforth clone.
@ZiggyLavengood
@ZiggyLavengood 2 года назад
I did so so on the Danforth on my last boat, a 34 ft C&C monohull on the Great Lakes. But it got kicked aside to the #@ spot when I got a Bruce. The Danforth would drag through the night once in a while making me sleep with one eye open... The Bruce locked in and stuck. Now that I have retired and downsized to the Windrider the game has changed. The Danforth is clumsy and bulky when packing it away on board with limited storage space. The Cooper is much more manageable and bites into the sea bottom like a Pitbull. It all depends on the anchorage conditions. I would carry 2 types so I could have a choice of ground tackle to fit the conditions on the big boat. The Danforth style does not like to bite into the oyster shell reefs we are sailing here on the Texas coast.

What size chain and how long - thanks Zig
@ZiggyLavengood
@ZiggyLavengood 2 года назад
Chain sizing is relative to boat size and use. My last boat was a 34ft 10 thousand lb monohull that I anchored in 20 to 30 ft of water on the great lakes often and I had 50 ft of chain. Now I have a 500 lb boat I'm anchoring in a few feet of water so the scope is different. I have 6 ft of chain on the anchors. not sure the size but you can see it's not real big. With a small boat it becomes a storage and weight issue.

Hi broderick. They are glass fibre reinforced PA66 Nylon. Certainly strong enough fro the recommended size of watercraft. You actually have just reminded me to add a photo to our FAQ page of us lifting a jetski with my Brother and I sitting on it using one of our pink promo anchors attached to a crane.

Hey Ziggy! Watch a clip of James Power's RU-vid about sailing his Hobie Tri ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-iwoFnWYyKRc.html. See the animated track chart, current speed, and distance travelled? Pretty cool. Dunno how he does it, but you ought to steal the idea and add it to your videos.

I subscribe to his channel too. I like the telemetry. I did that sort of thing when I was using a gopro as my main cam yrs ago but it was a lot of extra steps to do it. I use a DJI cam now and I don't think it's an option. I'll have to look into it again. Wonder if you could position it over a small google earth pic of the sailing area? Thanks for the shout! sorry it took 2 weeks to answer, the url link booted it into a file for review b4 it posted and I just found it.
