Cuz it could never have been made and no one would miss anything. The only scene that was almost good was when the cop planted the gun in the dead crackheads car and the other cop got pissed. This movie is about the different layers of cops within the system and that one scene does a better job than the entire dumb movie to get that across. The movie is trash, essentially.

@dildonius

Stallone doesn't "scowl." His face is partially paralyzed because when he was born, there was a slight issue, so the doctor used a pair of forceps to grab his head and pull him out of his mother (which was standard practice until around the 1970s, when C-Sections became the new standard). And in doing so, the doctor pinched or messed up a bunch of nerves on his head/face, which resulted in his face being partially paralyzed for his whole entire life. Which is why he talks the way that he does and looks the very particular way that he does. Similar thing happened to my mom when she was born. Idiot doctor clamped down on the forceps too hard and nearly put a dent in her skull - since infants have such soft skulls that don't harden until later on. Could have given her legitimate brain damage. Fortunately (especially for _my_ sake) she wound up OK in the end.

Yeah the more you look, the more you realize it's Robert De Niro and that's just what he does, nothing else. Not entirely true though, even as I type this. His acting in Cape Fear the remake, it was otherworldly. Very seldom is there a remake made that's better than the original. I'm trying to get my son to watch it. Both movies, actually. He and his college buddies love all the gangster stuff in The Sopranos but he doesn't know what he's missing when it comes to Copland or Cape Fire or Taxi Driver etc. The list of the DeNiro movies to watch are endless.

Fuck...Harvey Keitel & Robert DeNiro have been EXPERTLY playing off each other in many of the most incredibly TENSE scenes in cinematic history since fuckin *1973!* No two guys can squeeze so much out of so little like these two can. Their banter, their back-and-forth, their everything. DeNiro makes the simple act of shaking a bag out/open INCREDIBLY threatening. And Keitel just KNOWS how to play a grizzled badass who can tell that another equally grizzled badass is stalking him, sniffing for blood in the water, waiting to strike hard and fast and with deadly precision the second he has an opening, and is trying to keep cool and play defense. A dynamic that they had already expertly played out in 1976 with _Taxi Driver._

The subtext to this movie still amazes me. DeNiro, Keitel, and Liotta were Scorsese's guys. Stallone wasn't considered to be on their level, but he made more money than they all did. This movie was about real, big city cops vs. a small town Sherriff. But it felt like it was about real actors vs. Stallone. In the end, both Stallone and his character held their own.
@bholaoates1542
@bholaoates1542 4 года назад
For those who haven't yet seen the movie, the reason Stallone's sheriff character can't hear Deniro at 2:06 is because the sheriff lost much of his hearing bravely saving a woman from drowning. He wants to be a cop in NYC like the guys in the first part of the clip (Harvey Keitel, etc.), but he can't pass the inspection because of his damaged hearing.

Cop Land got everything to be a great movie : good script, excellent cast, good directing. I've watched the movie twice and all the scenes here on RU-vid and i think that i understood why that movie didn't get the recognition it deserves. There's a problem of pace in this film, that comes from the editing. In a good crime/noir movie, you absolutely needs to get a good pace, so that the tension builds up.

HARVEY KEITEL is a great actor. Taxi driver, Reservoir Dogs, Bad Lieutenant, Clockers, Copland, etc.

Stallone said this movie ruined his career, personally, I think it is one of his greatest roles, and a fine movie all round.

The clips alone are better than the sum of the movie. Incredible clips, good movie.

Interesting movie, had a lot of potential but weird pacing. De Niro and Janeane Garofalo sort of disappear halfway through and Stallone's character stumbles along until the plot literally shows up on his doorstep. Great moments but could've been a lot better

really fun movies if you are a Soprano head. Getting DeNiro to act pretty understated until he loses his temper was also so good.

I had a chance to watch this movie the summer I turned 18. The commercials offered me a chance to watch this movie when I could have done something, the commercials offered me a chance to watch a great movie and I blew it! I blew it!

Excellent film with a superb performance by Sylvester Stallone who more than holds his own against a star-studded ensemble cast. Great music by Howard Shore too.

This was not even an A list movie back then, and nowadays when I see clips, I can't belive how good these movies/acting were, compared to what's served now.
