Not saying all, but I definitely think majority wouldn't care. As long as they have a chance of finding a weak point to exploit for a ticket, they'll take it.
100%, he clearly wanted to know why Shmee believed it was legal, and didn't want to be impolite, so did the sensible thing and asked to be educated on it in case it in fact was legal, like it was. A lot wouldn't even consider *THEY* may be the ones who got it wrong, let alone admit it or even just appear to not know a specific law and ask to be educated from a mere peasant from the public. >.< Props to that officer for having some dignity and self awareness. No person is infallible, be they the public, a government official, or even the president/king/queen of said country.
It's about balance. If an officer knows the law (because you need to if you're an officer) and someone is violating the law, you can and should be stubborn, especially if someone is instantly becoming hostile and trying to force their way into you letting them go. But in this case, if there's some law that superceeds state laws and the person who is 'breaking' said law is willing to explain it, the attitude should be indeed more open to what they might not know, and then doing the valid research to discover whether it's true or not.
Even when normal people join law enforcement for the supposed right reasons they’ll become tyrants real quick or they’ll have no upward mobility and can’t get promotions and they will ultimately be shunned by their peers and have to quit or they will be fired. They’ll need to lie on reports, lie on the stand, and most importantly, always put the “thin blue line” and their “brothers in blue” above all else! Then they start having more and more contempt for the constitution and citizenry they swore to protect as their uneducated, ignorant, arrogant, small minds become more and more inflated! A few bad apples? Does anyone really believe that? Seriously🤬. The hate in their eyes when questioned in any manner says it all. It’s a serious problem and has serious, negative implications for anybody that crosses their path and doesn’t bow down to their imagined authority. I’m not a “defund the police” moron because we obviously don’t want to live in a society where the “law of the jungle” reigns supreme. We want criminals to have something to be afraid of and we need thieves, murderers, rapists, violent lunatics, etc to be locked up but why? Why? Why? Why can’t we have law enforcement officers that actually know the laws and don’t give meaningless directives while they simultaneously hope and pray to lock anyone up that doesn’t praise them and do as they say when they have zero authority or dominion over you unless your committing a crime? Unfortunately, no cop will ever read any of our comments because the “head in the sand” approach enables them to keep their fragile egos intact🤬
And yet, we have thousands and thousands of vehicles in places like St. Louis, MO that are driving on expired and illegal temp tags and the police have basically said they aren't going to stop them.
True that! In Texas they are going to stop requiring yearly inspections. I guess it is part of the fewer regulations thing we have going on nowadays. When I was a young and broke kid I would have loved not to need an inspection, but now as an old guy I kinda want those inspections.
BIG props to a police office being upfront that they don't know every tiny super niche international applying law and asking for something to be taught to them by someone who can explain the details in a comfortable manner. says a lot about the officer and says a lot about shmee's attitude. US police arnt known for being...modest
@@ChoppyChof Released by customs means they recognize your ownership, and that the item it is "safe for import", IE: no parasites or other ecological/biohazard things. However, that DOESN'T mean "road legal". That is determined by various US highway codes for emissions, safety, and such. Plenty of Mexican transfer trailers are technically "cleared" by CUSTOMS but promptly parked in a impound yard by DOT because they are falling apart and unsafe for the road.
I have an outstanding extra amount of respect for you and increased interest in anything you’re involved with because of how you handled this situation. On the other end of the spectrum I’m disgusted by and want nothing to do with content creators who berate officers in their interactions and exaggerated after the fact posts. Thanks Shmee!!!!!
You have to understand many US police officers in general are ignorant of most of the local laws they are charged to enforce on a daily basis. So them not knowing federal customs law is expected. However their arrogance with their ignorance is what always causes the issues with police.
I had a similar issue in Ford Lauderdale about 10 years ago but with my licence. A police officer telling me my licence was not valid in Florida. It turned out there was a law that Florida had created to say foreign licences couldn’t be used but it in fact conflicted with a federal law that overruled the law in Florida. The Florida law was removed eventually I believe. But I didn’t want to tell the cop this, so let him discover it himself as he was so certain.
I always thought the Zenvo build series an the car when completed was one of the best Shmee moments ever in the channel, he could have went with any car but going with the Zenvo an showing us inside the small factory picking that crazy livery I love when RU-vid car guys do things no others have .. great stuff by Shmee .
Thank you Tim, because you epitomise everything great about Great Britain. Polite, courteous and basically a really sound bloke. Fabulous ambassador for us.
Shmee I found your channel through Emilia Hartwood and I really like you I think you are one of the most genuine and nicest people in the world :) Good luck with the future buddy
I've done the I5 from SF to LA many times - boring yes but it does get you there reasonably quick. Not sure about your evening drive because I always get out before the afternoon rush. PCH is great for sure, but if you really want to appreciate the coast you're looking at a 3 day drive. Lots of cool stops along the way like Pismo Beach, Moro Bay, Hearst Castle, Carmel etc... It's just a shame gas prices are where they are now 👎 Maybe next time you are in LA we can meet up - would love to say hi and chat!
That Zenvo looks epic! Altho I must admit the dash seems to take ages to light up, and it cranked over a few extra times before it fired up! Sounds mega tho, but that Dark Horse sound! 💪
I've done a few drives from Phoenix, AZ to northern California and Iit was interesting to hear you talk about your experience with long drives as someone not from the US. Great video as always thanks for sharing!
With the crazy car like the Zenvo and having foreign plates im honestly surprised you're not pulled over more often. Glad it all worked out ok and the offecr chilled out a bit after getting a better understanding of whwt was going on
@@tgregory I would say that's normally true but a car as wild as a purple super car it's hard to not draw attention. I drove around with no front plate and technically illegal tint for years and never had issues because I wasn't weaving through traffic or speeding. I would just cruise with traffic
Just imagine if this was DDE, this would’ve been a long video of the whole incident and they’d trigger the cops and would even hope for a ticket so that they can make them look silly. Nicely done Shmee
The adventures and stories Tim can tell or share one day as an old man will keep his gran kids hooked for weeks! Tim you are an one amazing guy that I respect immencly sharing your car passion, travels and experiences on a global level with us mere immortals! Thank you!
I remember that Ford GT video where the cop actually stated he wanted to learn something and I remember how much respect I had for that cop at the time and still do.
@@spongebobsquaretits that is exactly what i said, he can make contact out of anything so what is your point, everyone else that gav a thumbs up seemed to realise the irony
Interesting topic with the cops. I think in general an average European view on the police is very different compared to an average American. Btw, you need a louder exhaust for the Zenvo. That's the main thing missing on that car to me 🙂
Louder isn't always better, especially if you want to be able to drive on tracks - most tracks, in the UK and Europe at least, have noise restrictions, and you'll be asked to leave if you exceed the restrictions. Like, my brother keeps a stock C63 exhaust in the garage because both times he's gone to the track straightpiped he got black flagged on the first lap for excess noise.
@@rustler08 He has said himself that he wants to upgrade the exhaust. Do I have no idea? 😅 Do you have an idea? To me it's quite obvious in the videos that it doesn't have the sound to match the other cars.
With the other similar interactions I've witnessed a large part of the issue is the posturing that is trained into police officers, if they adopt that position even when faced with overwhelming evidence to the contrary it is very difficult for the officer to back down gracefully without losing face.
I got stopped near the Jersey turnpike in 2001 on the first US Gumball Rally in my English tagged Ferrari 360, the cop said the car was not ‘in their system’ . I explained that it was built and supplied to Italy, later registered in UK but I generally drive it in France, why would it be ‘ in the system’ ? It explained that it was a temporary import and fully insured. His explanation was that ALL CARS ARE IN THE US DMV SYSTEM…. Took me a minute 🙈🤣
Tim, people can learn a lot from you. You're always respectful when you discuss these types of situations. Your buddy, Damon, for example, has a lot to learn.
I live 15 minutes from Sears Point Sonoma Raceway, the best road is Skaggs Springs road from Lake Sonoma to the bridge. Better than those coastal roads for sure.
Shmee150 Great Video I'm glad you had a great time driving your Absolutely Gorgeous Zenvo TSR-S in California one last before being shipped back to England and I'm sorry to hear that you got pulled over in Utah for your Foreign Plates and I'm glad it got worked out and I'm also glad that you had a drive to Rodeo dr in your Absolutely Incredible Dark Horse
13:12 as a Canadian we drive to the states all the time. We have less of a problem only because our plates look similar to American plates. But the odd time you’ll get a police officer that pulls you over and says. This car is illegal in the US.
I was an NYPD Officer initially but then transferred to a suburban county. I always kept in mind a thing my training NYC Sgt told me. No matter how great of a cop you become with experience, always BE HUMBLE. Be humble enough to research something you may not be familiar with. There are alot of laws and alot of nuances within those laws. Unfortunately, some officers can be dicks. Especially in the NYPD. Mostly not bad guys, persay, just hard-headed. I admire the respect you show in the way you explain it. I am also inspired by how you travel around Europe and the US! You've seen more of America than me! Motivating me to get out and drive the Porsche cross country!
I used to live in SF and would drive the backroads of highway 1 up in Marin and it looks exactly like where you were driving in the Zenvo! I even feel like I recognize the lookout spot. I used to have to pinch myself that I lived there
Been enjoying your videos for years, seems like you have a semi permanent footprint here in the US. The fact your Zenvo is US insured, ultimately should be good enough for any cop. I have safe and secure parking outdoor in the Bay Area (Walnut Creek, Ca) very out of sight on 20 acres, indoor as well but with some caveats . Get in touch if ever you need something short to medium term, I enjoy the channel, would love to help facilitate any US content. I have parking in Carmel, Ca too for many cars on Santa Lucia Ave very near Casanova and yes through mid August.
Gorgeous vehicles. Quick thing I noticed, the video looks as of it was filmed and processed in NTSC, converted to PAL-N, then back to NTSC. A bit odd. It looks good, just a little fussy on the screen . Also, you should try and film on a RED camera like MKBHD. It would be a kick to see the content thru those lenses.
@@Shmee150 I would also love to see a crazy 812 n largo level or something very loud in this car. To me zenvo already looks aggressive and crazy. You just now need the crazy noise to back it up. It would be amazing to see people's reaction every time you bring it out of the garage.
I have to agree. It's not that it sound bad so much as it just doesn't sound as crazy as you'd think given how crazy the looks are. Shee needs a bit more of a throaty rumble, IMO
@@nrnsclark94 idc it just needs to make an earthquake so that people knows the zenvo is here 😂. I actually don't remember any other zenvo spec except for shmees. This is a really great spec.
I imagine with the 25 year rule and the yearly cost of getting your tags in the US some locals may try to dodge these by running foreign plates so could attract some attention. Plus the only foreign plates that you could expect to see in the US, as in a realistic driving distance, is Canada and Mexico, and our plates are radically different, and if the officer didn't know could be confused with a vanity/novelty plate
Utah and some of the other fly over states are very famous in German and otther European offroad driving circles there are a huge junk of people every year shipping their offroad svus or trucks like Unimgs over to go offroading/overlanding especially in Utah
It wasnt the out of country plate really, it was the fact your plate is a different shape. Plenty of Canadian and Mexican vehicles drive around over here no problem but, their plates look like ours.
Tim, it'd be great if you drove through the California Redwoods, the Sequoias, and or Yosemite! Show the beauty of California not found anywhere else on the planet! We oddly have, the tallest trees in the world, the Redwoods, the largest trees the sequoias, and the oldest trees the Bristlecone pines! And Yosemite is one of the most beautiful parks in the world. Every auto based channel I watch never visits these awesome places to show the world the beauty that lay behind all the craziness. And it's not just CA! All the western states have beauty beyond belief such as the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, and Arches National Park in Utah among the 63 national parks. California alone has the most at 9 parks, 4 of them mentioned above. Visiting some of the parks would be great for the channel, and the viewers to see these beautiful cars in such beautiful places.👍😎✌🗽
Most state, county, city officers will admit it’s not their job to know the laws, it’s ours if we want to operate vehicles etc. They profile, use car type, visual identifiers, etc to pull you over and hope they find something to ticket for. I’ve been pulled over for a faulty blinker, which it wasn’t, but their word against mine side of the road. I just proved it worked, they verified my papers and off I went. Good show, great drive.
Driving that road in the beginning of the video is thrilling in person, as long as you don't get stuck behind traffic or bicyclists... Yeah bicyclists love this road...
You would think you would be given some official documentation when you enter the country with it so that the officer can quickly get the answers they need if you get pulled over.
